Kanyakumari is a City in Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The name comes from the Devi Kanya Kumari Temple in the region, in Tamil it is pronounced as 'Kan-niya-kumari'. It is the southernmost tip of peninsular India, and is surrounded on three sides by the Sea. Kanyakumari city is the southern tip of the Cardamom Hills, an extension of the Western Ghats range. Nearest city is Thiruvananthapuram (85km) and airport is Trivandrum International Airport, Trivandrum, Kerala. EP 1 Kanyakumari Tourist places, Things to do in in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu,Vivekanand Rock Memorial
First day of the Tamil Nadu tour started by exploring Kanyakumari in which we explored - Vivekanand Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue, Kanyakumari temple, Vivekanada kendra. It was a delightful experience to watch sunrise and sunset at Kanyakumari. Standing at the last point of mainland India and looking at the sea is a delightful experience.

We started our day in the morning by seeing the sunrise at Kanyakumari Sunrise Point. It was so beautiful because it’s the place where you can see the confluence of 3 rivers - Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal & Indian Ocean.
Swami Vivekanand Rock Memorial - After this, we headed to visit the swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial. I was so amazed to see the very big queue to get the entry tickets for the Rock memorial but we bought special entry tickets by paying Rs 300 per person to avoid the long queue.
Then we traveled for almost 10 minutes on the ferry to reach the Vivekananda Memorial.
Swami Vivekanand Rock Memorial was Inaugurated in 1970, and it was built to honor Swami Vivekananda. The religious significance of this historical place is that the rock is said to have the imprint of Maa Parvati feet, which is why it’s considered holy. In 1892 Swami Vivekananda visited Kanyakumari and meditated here.
Entry Ticket for Memorial visit - Rs 30
Thiruvalluvar Statue - we also saw a beautiful view of Thriuvalluvar Statue from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 133 feet tall stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and saint Tiruvalluvar, author of the Thirukkural.
Ferry does not halt at Thiruvalluvar statue but you can have a clear view of this statue from Vivekananda rock memorial.
After this, we had a fresh Palm fruit juice & coconut water

Then we did a 500 m Sea walk over stones and it was such an amazing experience.
Lunch at Maruthi Hotel - We had our lunch at Maruthi Hotel - A traditional South Indian meal. Overall I enjoyed the a meal lot.
Meal Price - Rs 120
Kanyakumari Lighthouse - After lunch we visited Kanyakumari Lighthouse situated right next to TTDC. we saw the beautiful view of the Kanyakumari from the lighthouse.
Kanyakumari Temple - Then we visited Bhagavathi Amman Temple, Kanyakumari. This temple is 3000 years old.
Sunset Point - After this, we headed towards Sunset Point to see the beautiful sunset of Kanyakumari. We noticed the crowd of approx 5000 people who are enjoying the sunset here.
Vivekanand Kendra - Then we visited Vivekanand Kendra which is one of the affordable stay options in Kanyakumari. We were not able to shoot there because it was full at that time.

Ramayan Darshana - Then we visited a gallery called Ramayan Darshana where you can get very detailed information about Ramayan. We also visited the Bharat Mata temple there.

1. Vivekananda Rock Memorial :
The magnificent Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located on a small island off Kanyakumari. It has the picturesque Indian Ocean in its backdrop and hence serves as a peaceful and serene destination for visitors from all across the globe. It is situated on one of the two adjacent rocks projecting out of the Lakshadweep Sea and comprises of the 'Shripada Mandapam' and the 'Vivekananda Mandapam'. The ferry ride up to these rock islands is a thrilling journey and hence attracts a lot of nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
2. Thiruvalluvar Statue :
Dedicated to the accomplished philosopher and poet Thiruvalluvar, this beautiful statue finds itself on a small island near Kanyakumari. Thiruvalluvar was the author of a legendary work in the world of Literature, Tirukkural, the classic Tamil text. In his devotion, the work for the statue started in 1990 and continued till 1999, during the year in which the figure finally got completed. This monument stands tall at a mighty height of 133 feet and is perched upon a 38-foot pedestal. The pedestal's height represents the 38 chapters of virtue in Thirukkural. Full of symbolism and cultural significance, this destination is awe-inspiring, and a must visit. The sky-high statue amid the deep ocean outgives spiritual atmosphere of pleasure and prosperity to be enjoyed with a strong base of virtue.
3. Kanyakumari Beach :
Located in the southernmost part of India, Kanyakumari beach with its beautiful hue-changing beaches, the confluence of three water bodies as well as the places of religious, historic and spiritual interests is one of the most exotic destinations in India and will never cease to amuse you with its sheer magnificence.
