(Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen).

Sofiyivka Park, Uman, Ukraine | May-June 2022 | Walking Tour 4K Ethno tourism

Sofiyivsky Park is an arboretum and a scientific-researching institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU Department of Biology). The park is located in the northern part of the City of Uman, Cherkasy Oblast (Central Ukraine), near the Kamianka River. Some areas of the park are reminiscent of an English garden. Today the park is a popular recreational spot, annually visited by 500,000 visitors.

The English landscape garden was founded in 1796 by Count Stanislaw Szczesny Potocki, a Polish noble who rebuilt Uman after a peasant uprising. The city of Uman at that time was part of the Russian Empire. The park is named after his Greek wife Sofia. It was a gift of Stanislaw Potocki to his wife on her birthday.

The cost of the original park was estimated at 15 million zloty, a fortune by contemporary standards. The main contractor was Ludwik Metzel, a Polish military engineer who imported many rare plants from all around Europe. He employed the local serfs as his main labor force. The land for the park was highly undeveloped with numerous ravines and divided by the Kamianka river. The main composition of the park is located by the very same river with series of artificial basins and ponds (Upper-8 ha, Lower-1.5 ha, and others), waterfalls (the highest one is 14m tall), locks, subterranean river Acheron (length-224m), fountains, etc. The opening ceremony was also honoured by Stanislaw Trembecki, who wrote a poem praising the park and its namesake. The park is decorated with a number of sculptures, mostly antique ones, and artificial cliffs, grottoes, and gazebos. The park was confiscated from private possession after the Polish November Uprising in 1832 and transferred to the Kiev Official Chamber. The same year Nikolai I presented the park to his wife Alexandra Feodorovna. In 1836–1859, the park was a property of the Military Settlements Administration and was majorly changed.

It is one of the world-famous garden-park art creations. There are many scenic areas in the park including waterfalls, fountains, ponds, and a stone garden. It is one of the most famous examples of late 18th or early 19th century European landscape garden design that has been preserved to the present time.

The Sofiyivsky Park was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine on 21 August 2007, based on voting by experts and the Internet community.

DNIEPER RIVER: Kiev, Ukraine (Landscape Video Series) 4K/UltraHD

Dnieper River: Kiev, Ukraine (Landscape Video Series) 4K/UltraHD features stunning and spectacular aerial, walking, and drone video footage great for travel, visit, and tourism planning set to original music. The video is the perfect companion for indoor exercise routines involving treadmills, steppers, cycling, and rowing. The Dnieper is one of the major rivers of Europe, rising in the Valdai Hills near Smolensk, Russia, before flowing through Belarus and Ukraine to the Black Sea. It is the longest river of Ukraine and Belarus and the fourth-longest river in Europe, after Volga, Danube and Ural. The total length is approximately 2,200 km (1,400 mi) with a drainage basin of 504,000 square kilometres (195,000 sq mi). Historically, the river was an important barrier, dividing Ukraine into right and left banks. Nowadays, the river is noted for its dams and hydroelectric stations. The Dnieper is an important navigable waterway for the economy of Ukraine and is connected via the Dnieper–Bug Canal to other waterways in Europe. In antiquity, the river was known to the Greeks as the Borysthenes and was part of the Amber Road.

In popular culture:
The river is one of the symbols of the Ukrainian nation and is mentioned in the national anthem of Ukraine.

Some of the cities on its banks — Dnipro, Dniprorudne, Kamianka-Dniprovska — are named after the river.

The river is referred to as Dnipro, in the song Hey, Dnipro, Dnipro.

The folk metal band Turisas have a song called The Dnieper Rapids on their 2007 album The Varangian Way.

Leon Bolier featured a track called Dnipro in his debut 2-CD album Pictures. The track is said to be inspired by his visit to Kyiv in May 2008.

Roberto Bolaño's novel 2666 features the Dnieper as a significant feature of the village of Hans Reiter.

Beat laureate Spencer Hash spent childhood summers observing tide patterns in the Dnieper. It provides the backdrop for most of his 1998 novel Embassy.

This scenery video features original music by Drum Knight:

Travel Ukraine during war 2022: Visiting Skole Beskids National Park #tourisminukraine2022

Can you still come to Ukraine in 2022 and travel?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is ongoing, with attacks against a number of major cities. Several towns and cities in southern and eastern Ukraine are temporarily under Russian control. There is a real risk to life.

However, Ukraine has a large territory and West Ukraine cities, as Lviv, Mukachevo, Chernivtsi, Truskavets, Shidnitsa are safe and even accepts tourists.

Ukrainian FISH FARM Experience - Fishing Golden Trout + Attractions | Korostiv, Ukraine

🇺🇦 LEARN MORE ABOUT UKRAINE:
🌎 TOURS BY LOCALS:
👱🏻‍♀️ DIANA:

After two incredible days exploring the city of Lviv, I headed south from the city for some unforgettable adventures in and around the Carpathian Mountains! Come with me on my Ukrainian fish farm experience and explore the attractions in Korostiv, Ukraine!

My guide Diana from Tours by Locals began our day in Lviv. On our three-hour drive down to the Transcarpathia Region, we’d make a few stops, including an 11th-century monastery and a fish farm!

👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

Our first stop was an old, wooden bridge that links two villages across a river from one another. It had been painted blue and yellow.

We hopped back in the car and drove to the fortress, which sits atop a massive stone cliff. Nearby is Tustan, where you can find vendors selling craft goods, tea, jam, coffee, and more. Admission is 65 hryvnia/roughly $3 USD.

We followed a wooden plank path through a forested area to a set of wooden stairs heading up the monolith. At the top is the former site of Tustan Fortress, an 11th-century wooden fortress that burned down.

The views there are beautiful! The rock formations and forests are gorgeous. There’s also a nearby museum and an archaeological site.

Back at the base is a woman who sells baked goods. For 30 hryvnia/$1 USD, I got a poppyseed bun. Poppyseeds are very popular in the local cuisine. It was almost like a cinnamon bun!

Next, we saw a woman grilling potato kebabs at the craft area, as well as some liqueurs. I loved her cherry liqueur and honey liqueur before driving to Kamianka Waterfall.

The waterfall, nature, and beautiful weather made for a super peaceful experience! They say if you wash your face in the icy water, you’ll stay young forever.

Nearby is an artisanal street with about 7 vendors selling kebabs, tea, jams, and fish. They had some rainbow trout and a drink that contains a venomous snake!

One of the women let me try some pine nut jam and some smoked coffee! While I waited for the coffee, I tried some honey vodka, cherry vodka, earthy root vodka, herb vodka, and a delicious pickle.

Next was Kvass, a non-alcoholic drink made from bread, and the smoky coffee!

Ten minutes later, we arrived at Zolota Forel, or Golden Trout Restaurant. I got to feed and catch some fish. It took me seven tries to catch one! Then, it was time to eat.

There, we started with caviar, smoked trout, marinated trout, pickled veggies, fish pate with toast, and some drinks. The caviar was unbelievable, like little gushers in my mouth. We enjoyed it with some fruity, dry white wine.

Next was the trout tartar, which was delicious and fishy. But I couldn’t stop eating the caviar straight from the bowl! The marinated trout was tougher but had a creamy texture.

The smoked trout had some bones but was extremely flavorful with a nice, smooth texture. I suggest going in with your hands to separate the bones from the meat. It was incredible, but the tartar and the caviar were my favorites.

The fish pate was crazy good as well. We also had some cloudy, fermented kvass and pickled vegetables. The pickled plums were sweet and sour, and the peppers were very hot!

Next was Ukha, a type of trout soup with potatoes and carrots. There was no salt, pepper, or marination, but it was still hot and flavorful! We followed that with grilled trout and baked trout. The waiters pull out the spinal column for you.

I loved the smoky, barbecued flavor of the grilled trout. It was amazing with lemon. The baked trout with pine nuts was more tender!
