Talakantamma Temple | తలకంటమ్మ | మూడు కళ్ళ దేవత | 3 eyed Goddess | Devagudi | Jammalamadugu
In Devagudi village of Jammalamadugu, there is an ancient temple dedicated to 3 eyed goddess called talakantamma or talakantIswari. It has good amount of history to it. There are inscriptions from 10th century are available in temple compound. An inscription says, during 14th century, there was dispute resolved between temple board members.
10th century inscription says, there was a devotee of talakantamma died in battle of Danavulapadu-Peddapasupula village border dispute. 15th century inscription says, during KrishnaDevaraya time, some donations were made.
In 16th century, Chadipiralla Lingareddy ( ancestors of Ex. MLA. C. Adinarayana Reddy ) constructed temple's Mukhamandapa.
It seems this temple was part of Sakteya cult. We can see good number of erotic sculptures at temple's outer wall and near wall of Kalabhairava temple.
There is a Sapatmatrika Panel inside compound which has only 3 goddesses to it.
There is a Siva temple near this temple which has 3 gopurams. 2 Sivalingams inside same compound.
