Roads are filled with creek crossing that halt travel when it rains. This is actually a very nice one. Most are much rougher and rocky.
Exploring the rich history and scenic beauty of Aiyura Valley, Eastern Highlands, Papua New Guinea
Join us on a captivating journey through the enchanting Aiyura Valley, nestled in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. This pristine valley boasts a profound history and natural beauty that has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
Within the lush embrace of Aiyura Valley, you'll discover renowned institutions such as the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) at Ukarumpa, Aiyura National School of Excellence (formerly Aiyura National High School), Coffee Research Institute (CRI), National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI), Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA), and National Fisheries Authority (NFA), among other notable organisations.
Aiyura National High School has been a cornerstone of education in the region, with countless accomplished Papua New Guineans passing through its halls. The valley itself has played a pivotal role in shaping the destinies of these individuals.
Modern agriculture in Papua New Guinea traces its roots back to Aiyura, with the establishment of the Aiyura Agricultural Research Station, originally known as the Highlands Agricultural Experiment Station, Aiyura. This initiative, spearheaded by Australian agriculturist Mr. Bill Brechin in 1936, laid the foundation for the development of agriculture in the region. In 1937, the land was cleared for the airstrip, which today is home to SIL Aviation, the aviation wing of SIL. Aiyura's historical significance also extends to World War II, when the Aiyura Airstrip witnessed the impact of war with a Japanese bombing raid on June 15, 1943, involving six bombers and six fighter aircraft.
Aiyura Valley is not just a place of historical importance; it's also the ancestral homeland of the Gadsup and Tairora people, whose rich traditions and cultures continue to thrive in this picturesque setting.
On a memorable Friday, August 25, 2023, we had the privilege of exploring this extraordinary valley. We sent our drone soaring into the skies to capture the awe-inspiring beauty of Aiyura Valley, a place that has touched the lives of countless individuals throughout its storied history.
Join us as we delve into the past and savor the breathtaking vistas of Aiyura Valley, a place where history, culture, and natural splendor converge to create an unforgettable experience. Subscribe and hit the notification bell to stay updated on our journey through Papua New Guinea's hidden gems.

Kindeng Tea Estate, Wahgi Valley
Kindeng Tea Estate in the Wahgi Valley of Jiwaka, owned and operated by Carpenter Estates, grows and produces the No. I Tea brand of Papua New Guinea.
In the Waghi Valley, Carpenter Estates owns and operates four tea plantations, each with its own factory.
These properties were developed from phragmites swamp country in the mid-1960s.
At that time, almost all the equipment used was air freighted into the valley, as those were the days before the road system in the Highlands was fully developed.
The rich soil and ideal climate conditions of the Wahgi Valley contribute to the success of these tea plantations, which are rapidly promoting PNG’s reputation as a leading producer of quality tea to meet a growing demand throughout the world.
The tea is grown without the use of any chemical pesticides, a situation that does not prevail in any other tea-producing country.

Papua New Guinea's challenges and hopes for the future
In this interview, Rosalie Everest, an Australian woman who calls Papua New Guinea home, sheds light on the pressing issues facing the country as it celebrates 50 years of independence in 2025. Having grown up on a coffee plantation in the Eastern Highlands, and later teaching in the country, Rosalie speaks about the challenges of urban drift, law and order, and the increasing population.
Rosalie reflects on how these problems impact daily life and the nation's progress. Despite the difficulties, she remains hopeful that the younger, educated generation, will rise to steer PNG into a better future.
During her poignant visit to PNG, Rosalie brought her mother Muriel Larner's ashes to rest beside her father Wally Larner at the Old Kainantu Cemetery. Muriel ran Arau Coffee Plantation after Wally' s death and founded the Eastern Highlands Cultural Centre, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to the region.
Join us as Rosalie shares her deep concerns and hopes for Papua New Guinea, highlighting the urgent need for solutions to these critical issues.
