Our adventure commenced at Arsikere railway station, where we boarded a comfortable KSRTC bus, embarking on a scenic road journey from Arsikere to Kadur followed by Chikmagalur in Karnataka. As we traversed the picturesque routes, our anticipation grew to explore the famed Chikmagalur tourist places and other captivating destinations that Karnataka had to offer.
Chikmagalur, nestled in the heart of Karnataka, is a treasure trove of tourist attractions. Its natural beauty and cultural heritage make it a must-visit destination. From ancient temples to sprawling coffee plantations, Chikmagalur has something to enthrall every traveler. We explored the renowned Mullayangiri peak, the highest peak in Karnataka, relishing the breathtaking vistas it offered. The Western Ghats stood tall, casting a mesmerizing spell on us, as if straight out of a captivating Western Ghats documentary.
As we continued our journey through Chikmagaluru Karnataka, we were greeted by the enchanting Karnataka monsoon. The rain showers added an ethereal charm to the landscapes, rejuvenating the lush greenery and creating a magical ambiance. We reveled in the beauty of Karnataka rain, as it danced on the bus windows, immersing us in its refreshing embrace.
Upon reaching Kadur, a quaint town with its own distinct allure, we felt a sense of tranquility envelop us. The warm hospitality of the locals and the delightful cuisine enriched our experience, giving us a glimpse of the authentic essence of Karnataka.
Our final destination was the magnificent Mullayangiri peak, which beckoned us to embark on an exhilarating journey. The mist-covered trail and occasional drizzles heightened the thrill of our trek, as we ventured higher. At the summit, a breathtaking panorama unfolded before our eyes, confirming the grandeur of Mullayangiri and the Western Ghats.

Located about 6400 ft above mean sea level, Mullayangiri is the tallest peak of Karnataka State. There is a temple at top of the summit.
While coming down from Mullayangiri take some time to stop over at a small quite temple dedicated to Seethala Mallikarjuna Swamy or Lord Shiva.
From Seethalayana and enroute to Baba Budangiri, I took a break at the Honnamana Halla Falls. Good place for kids to play around in chilled water and also good for clicking some pics.
From the curvy roads to scenic avenue, Baba Budangiri is abode to the man who brought coffee to India. It has shrine named after Sufi saint Baba Budan, who is revered by both Muslims and Hindus.
Just 7 kms ahead of Baba Budangiri there is a beautiful all season waterfalls called Manikyadhara. When sunlight falls on Manikyadhara, water droplets appear like sparkling pearls.
Gaalikere is part of Baba Budangiri travel circuit. It is located about 6 kms from Baba Budangiri shrine.
On the way back from Baba Budangiri and towards Chikkamagaluru, don’t miss to visit Jhari waterfalls also called Buttermilk water falls.
Next day, got up and headed towards ancient city named Amruthapura which is 67 kms from Chikkamagaluru. Amruthapura is famous for architecturally amazing Hoysala temple of the 12th century, named Amrutheshwara Temple.
On the way back from Amruthapura, visited Ayyankere Lake which is about 23 kms from Chikkamagaluru. Ayyankere is Karnataka’s second biggest lake and is one place you should not miss. .
Coffee Museum acquaints you not only with the history but also makes you aware of the technological aspects of coffee plantations.
Post all my learnings about coffee processing, next I headed to ancient Kodandarama Temple at Hiremagaluru. Original structure of this temple is 1200 years old and the overall structure of this temple has the signatures of the Cholas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar dynasties.
Amidst all the lush greenery and mountain ranges, a calm and serene lake called Hirekolale Lake is present at the foothills of Mullayanagiri Hills.

Ayyanakere is near Sakharayapatna village in Karnataka, India and it is located at a distance of 18 kilometres from Chickmagaluru.
The lake is a major water source for agricultural activity for several villages up to a distance of 15 kilometres. The lake has 10 canals to distribute water.
It is believed that the lake was constructed originally by Rukmangada Raya, the ruler of Sakharayapatna village and later renovated during 1156 A.D. by Hoysala Kings. It feeds 1560 hectares of agricultural lands.
The lake is known for its beautiful landscape with hills in the background.
Small island in lake makes the lake more beautiful.

The waterfall is 242 km from Bengaluru and 24 km from Chikmagalur. Kadur Junction is the nearest railway station (57 km) and Mangaluru Airport is the nearest airport (180 kms). Taxis can be hired from Kadur or Chikmagalur, but the last five km to the falls are accessible only via jeep. 5 minutes walk and finally experience jhari waterfalls.

In this video you are going to see me along with 3 of my friends go on an adventure to explore a hidden waterfalls in chickmagaluru district. The waterfalls is named as Diamond falls by the localites. as it is not known to the public much you will get a very good experience of trekking with your friends in the forest. The trek is of just 3-4 kms which is very easy. The best time to vist this waterfall is in the mansoon. The waterfall is not that big, its about 30-35 feet tall. you can experience the lust greenery and hill view while trekking as the trials pass through the forest area.
Overall the trekking was of a great experience. There was a lite drizzle almost for the full trek which made it a proper mansoon trek.

Amrutheshwara Temple - Ancient Hoysala temple in Chikmagalur
The best route to reach Amrutheshwara Temple from Bangalore is via Hiriyur and Hosadurga.
If you are traveling from Chikkamagaluru or Shivamogga, you can reach the place via Tarikere.
Amrutesvara Temple is 260 km from Bangalore
48 km from Shivamogga
65 km from Chikkamagaluru
Amrutheshwara Temple was built in the year 1196 by Amrutheshwara Dandanayaka under the rule of Hoysala King Veera Ballala II.This temple is a classic example of ancient Hoysala architecture.
Miniature decorative towers on the exterior walls of the temple are one of the unique features of this temple. This temple is in the ekakuta style with just one vimana, unlike other trikuta temples built by Hoysalas at Somnathpur and Belur.
The Tower of the temple is adorned with the sculptures of kirthimukhas and miniature decoratives. Mallitamma, believed to be one of the great architects of the Hoysala dynasty, started his career as a sculptor here in the Amrutheshwara Temple, which adds to the historical importance of this temple.
The exterior wall of the temple has panel sculptures, scenes from Hindu epics and legends.
The rows of shining lathe turned pillars that support the ceiling of the mantapa depict Hoysala-Chalukya decorative characteristics.
The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva and the shiva linga at the temple is a 300-year-old Trimurti brought from the River Kandikevale in Nepal.
On the auspicious day of Sankranthi and Mahashivaratri, thousands of devotees visit this place to take the blessings of Lord Shiva.
