Famous for its biodiversity, pristine coral reefs and world class birding, Farasan Island, is one of the most beautiful Islands in the Kingdom. Comprise of over 80 Islands only three of them are inhabitant among which Farasan Island is the largest one. Once known as Portus Ferresanus, the Islands has rich history and great strategic importance since centuries.
Visiting Farasan Island is way too difficult than dreaming it. In this video I am going to share my experience of visiting Farasan Island with all the necessary minor details you must know before visiting it. So, this is going to be a sort of Question Answer Session.
Q1: The first question was about planning the trip, weather in Farasan in Aug and my recommendation to visit it.
Ans: You should plan your visit from Nov to Feb. That’s the best time to visit Farasan. Other months are too humid and hot.
Q2: How and from where to book the tickets?
Ans: The only way you can book the ferry tickets is to visit the ticketing office near Jazan Port. I would advice travelers to book complete itinerary from Jazan ticket office before leaving to Farasan. If you miss your return ticket then you can book it from Farasan office which is in the main town. All locations are given in the end of video description.
Q3: How to take cars to Farasan? What are documents required?
Ans: Tell the ticketing agent that you need to bring your car there. He will check the slots and let you know the soonest available slot. You need to present your Iqama and Car Istamara for registration purpose. If any visit visa holder is accompanied, then you must present their Passports as well.
Q4: What are the different types of tickets issued to bring cars to Farasan? How can I check my ticket type? What are the differences?
Ans: There are two kinds of tickets for cars. Number 1 is Confirmed Ticket and 2nd is Waiting Ticket. The difference lies in the words themselves… Confirmed means your car space is confirmed in the ferry. Waiting tickets are subjected to space availability after boarding all confirmed cars.
Q5: how much does the ferry cost for passengers and cars?
Ans: Ferry is completely free for all.
Q6: What are the ferry timings?
Ans: There are two timings. 1st in the morning at 7 am for which you must be at terminal at 5:30 am and 2nd at 1 pm for which you must be at terminal at 11:30 am.
Q7: How many ferry terminals are there at the ports (both Jazan and Farasan)?
Ans: There’s only 1 terminal at both locations but the entrances and checking points are separate for cars and passenger. Only car driver is allowed to go with car rest all passengers must go to passenger location.
Q8: What kind of checking is done at the departure and arrival terminals?
Ans: Checking is similar like any airport checking. Car checking is way stricter than passengers checking.
Q9: What are the items can I carry with me or in my car on ferry?
Ans: You can’t bring any flammable chemicals/explosives/gas cylinders etc.
Q10: What are the other protocols to be followed on ferry?
Ans: Mask is mandatory for all. Photography is not allowed. Movement is allowed only within the sitting area
Q11: How is ferry? Is it cleaned and well maintained?
Ans: MACNA operates world class ferries to Farasan Island with very high standards.
Q12: What are the services available on ferry?
Ans: Ferry is equipped with AC and has a very good tuck shop. Ferry has clean washrooms as well.
Q13: For how many days should I stay in Jazan to visit Farasan?
Ans: At least for 4 days.
Q14: How long should I stay in Farasan Island?
Ans: At least 1+ day
Q15: Can I find hotels in Farasan Island?
Ans: Yes
Q16: Can I find restaurants in Farasan Island?
Ans: Yes
Q17: Can I camp in Farasan Island?
Ans: Yes but camping is not recommended in summers due to hot and humid weather.
Q18: Can I find taxi/bus/rent a car service in Farasan if I don’t have car?
Ans: However, there’s no taxi or bus service, Yelo Rent a Car has now a branch at the Ferry terminal at Farasan Island.
Q19: what are the other not to do things on Island?
Ans: Don’t hunt or hurt any bird or animal specially in the protected areas. Don’t visit Ghazal reserve area without permit. Don’t trespass any old building or historical treasures
Q20: What are the things to do/places to visit in Farasan Island?
Ans: Deer Reserves, Al Qessar Village, Ottoman Castle, Al Maadi Bridge, Al Hasees Beach, Janaba Beach, Mangroves and Al Qandal Forest, Snorkelling, Birdwatching and Island Hopping

Ottoman Castle Farasan Island Saudi Arabia | Jizan Tourist Places | Jazan | جزيرة الفرسان جازان
The Ottoman castle in Farsan is one of the important archaeological and historical sites located in the north of the island about 50 km from the city of Jazan inside the Red Sea.
The Ottoman castle was used in the 20th century (Ottoman era) as a military base and is the oldest castle in the Farasan Islands which was built in the year 1832. At the beginning of its establishment many skirmishes between the local population and Ottoman forces took place as a resistance to Ottoman rule.
At that time, there was a battle between locals and the Ottomans. The Locals were fighting from the barracks and Ottoman soldiers were fighting in the open area on the port of Janaba (South Port), causing the soldiers to call for help.
However, 25 Ottoman Soldiers were killed in exchange of only 1 local from Bani Mehdi; the battle ended with the island's handover to the Ottoman Empire until the end of its rule after reconciliation and mediation with senior locals.
The castle was built on a rocky hill overlooking a large area of the island consisted of a fortified house having many gates, horse cleats, forts and wells in addition to many warehouses.
There was also a place of residence for 30 people, which was used by the Ottoman Soldiers with an area of about 500-meter square.
This castle was made of plaster and stones, whose materials are abundant on the island. Walls of the castle was built with sea stone, surrounded from the outside and inside with layers of plaster with openings to fire from them. Its roof was made of palm leaves placed on columns equipped with a tank of roofed wood.

Welcome to Jazan – one of the southernmost cities in Saudi Arabia, located only 60 km from the Yemen border. In this video of Living the Jo Life, we first explored Al Dosariyah Castle, which is an Ottoman castle located on a mountain overlooking the port of Jazan and the Red Sea. In the afternoon, we visited the Jazan Heritage Village, where we immersed ourselves in the traditions and customs of the culture of southeastern Saudi Arabia. After sunset, we discovered the vibrant Souk Dakhli, a bustling market where colors, scents, and flavors come alive, offering an authentic shopping experience. The market has a great atmosphere and a maze of stalls filled with unique handicrafts, spices, clothes, incense and souvenirs that reflect the true essence of Saudi Arabia. On the night of Saudi Founding Day, we certainly got to experience the festivities around the Sky Mall area in Jazan. We visited a lively café, and ended up at a private receipt at the Masnaf Restaurant, where we were invited for coffee, ice cream, had henna painting, and enjoyed a delicious meal, while making lots of new Saudi friends. Truly a night to remember. The hospitality here is Saudi Arabia is second to none. The locals wouldn’t let us pay a thing!

Wadi Lajab, in Jazan, is considered one of the most beautiful touristic areas in the KSA. It is a canyon infiltrated by streams, which have carved a narrow path between two large mountains. It is part of the Saudi Tihamah valleys and is considered a park for residents and visitors alike. The valley is 11 km long and water flows in its southern side. Its steep sides are as high as 300 meters in some parts. The narrow and incredibly deep valley offers some quite dramatic viewpoints. But the most incredible feature of Wadi Lajab is the fact that it delivers fresh water more regularly than any other wadi in Saudi Arabia. Jizan Region is the second smallest (after Al Bahah) region of Saudi Arabia. It stretches 300 km (190 mi) along the southern Red Sea coast, just north of Yemen, and includes over 100 islands in the Red Sea among which the Farasan Islands is Saudi Arabia's first conservation protected area and home to migratory birds from Europe in winter.
However, the region is one of the smallest; it boasts an astounding natural and geographical diversity that few other regions can match. From scorching desert sands to deep green forests, grassy plains to craggy mountain peaks, agricultural lands to tropical islands and colorful coral reefs, Jizan has it all. The region is not limited to natural beauty, for it also boasts interesting archaeological sites, a historic harbour that bustles with life, and a huge variety of tropical fruits.

Wadi Lajab is a large crevice in the eastern part of Al-Qahr Zahwan Mountain with a length of approximately 15 kilometers and a width of between four to six meters. It is awe-inspiring due to its narrow course and high altitude that can reach up to 800 meters.
Wadi Lajab is known for its remarkable fresh water streams which feed the valley almost around the year and natural hanging gardens that have been densely growing on both sides of the valley, adding to its beauty. One can find trees such as olive and palm at a height of approximately 200 meters.
The Wadi is equally famous among the adventurer, hikers and mountaineers for its scenic beauty and the rock formations on both sides of the valley. One can drive approximately two kilometers inside Wadi Lajab by car, then as it narrows continue on foot to enjoy the charming nature characterized by scattered waterfalls and lakes, trees that grow on rocks and sunlight that barely catches the steep valley and only for a few minutes.
