Today we're in Tlaxcala. Never heard of it, right?

Tlaxcala is the smallest state in Mexico, located just north of the state of Puebla and east of Mexico City. Some even say it's not even a state! It is totally overshadowed by it's neighbours and in some ways, ignored! Until now...

Tlaxcala has a great history with Hernan Cortes and the Spanish. It has everything you expect from Mexico from outstanding churches such as the Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Ocotlan as well as one of the oldest cathedrals in Mexico, a bullring and stunning food.

Also in thet state of Tlaxcala, you can visit archeological sites, visit in firefly season, climb Mexico's MONSTER Mountain (Malinche) as well as visit countless museums.

Tlaxcala was just 'average' when I got there - I was influenced by people saying I shouldn't bother. They were wrong.

MUSIC - (all Epidemic Sound)
Tomorrow, If You Let Me - Gavin Luke (intro & church ending)
My Sombrero for your Gun - Sight of Wonders (Bullring)
FOMO - James Wahlsteen (beginning & escalanitas)

We Visit the Capital of Tlaxcala, and the Pueblo Magico of Tlaxco

While visiting Puebla we took a few day trips. In this video we visit the Capital city of Mexico's smallest State, Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala. Their saying is: Sí existe, or Yes it exists - because it is so small (a little bigger than Rhode Island). We had an amazing time checking out this town, and in our eyes it should be a Pueblo Magico. They have a bull fighting ring (Plaza de Toros), and a some beautiful churches (Catedral de Tlaxcala, Capilla de Pocito, and Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Ocotlán). We just happened to visit during a festival, and saw dancers wearing masks we had only seen in museums. Afterwards we visit the Pueblo Magico of Tlaxco which is known for their wood working.

TLAXCALA Capital. A great town within a great state.

The beauty of Tlaxcala has no words that can actually describe it. The town, its people, its food, the sightseeing, so many wonderful things that this small but great state has to offer. When you get the opportunity to visit Tlaxcala, don't think twice. You will love it.

The first inhabitants of Tlaxcala lived on the gathering of wild fruits and hunting small animals. They did not have permanent homes, nor domestic animals.

Then agriculture and animal husbandry began. At first, the food reserve between sowing and harvesting was very limited, so agriculture was a secondary activity compared to gathering and hunting. But the importance of agriculture and animal husbandry lies in the fact that for the first-time man subjects the production of livelihoods to his direct control.

The arrival of the Tlaxcalans (also called Teochichimecas) to the summits of Tepeticpac was not well seen by the Olmeca-Xicalancas, who had previously settled in the region and developed the Cacaxtla lordship, from where they dominated the valley. Then they disputed the territory expelling them from Cacaxtla, Texoloc, Mixco, Xiloxochitla and Xocoyucan.

The assault on Tepeticpac occurred in the year 1384. The Culhuas of Texcoco helped the Tlaxcalans to repel the aggression, defeating the Huejotzincas. This victory helped Tlaxcala define its borders and establish good relations with its neighbors.

After this victory, the Tlaxcalans dedicated themselves to strengthening their dominion. There were four manors that made up what in the 16th century was known as the Republic of Tlaxcala. Each lordship was autonomous in matters of internal government, but in matters of defense of independence against other expansionist ethnic groups such as the Aztecs, or closer enemies such as the lordships of Cholula or Huexotzingo, the four senators met, and appointed one of them to be in command of the armies, being federated and cohesive in a single nationality.

Between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, Tlaxcala stands out among the most important cultures in Mesoamerica. Live a period of bonanza, thanks to trade with the peoples of the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, as well as with Central America. Through this trade, the Tlaxcalans obtained cocoa, wax, textiles, pigments, gold and precious stones, fine skins, exotic bird feathers, salt, etc.

The Tlaxcalans tried to speak to the arrowhead from heaven to demand freedom of trade. Moctezuma Ilhuicamina, with great pride, demanded tribute from the Republic of Tlaxcala, which meant vassalage and submission, to which the Tlaxcalans did not agree, starting a long enmity that led to a permanent campaign of warlike confrontations.

The well.

Legend has it that in 1750 a great typhus epidemic ravaged Tlaxcala and too many people died. A sick man who lived near the chapel, in his eagerness to survive, recalled that a neighbor had a miraculous image of Christ crucified and begged his relatives to go with him so that he could lend them to the Lord and save him from that disease. that Christ kept death away or helped to receive it in peace. Since then this image is known as the lord of the neighbor and the chapel is called the good neighbor.

Discover Puebla City in Mexico

Discover Puebla City in Mexico

Puebla de Zaragoza, formally Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza, formerly Puebla de los Ángeles during colonial times, or known simply as Puebla, is the seat of Puebla Municipality. It is the capital and largest city of the state of Puebla, and the fourth largest city in Mexico, after Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.

Long the commercial centre of an important agricultural district (corn [maize], sugarcane, cotton, livestock), Puebla was also an early manufacturing city, known for its traditional onyx products, Talavera tiles, pottery, glass, and textiles. The city’s economy now depends on a mixture of manufacturing and services. Its wide array of manufactures include automobiles, metal products, foods and beverages, and building materials. The city is served by rail, highway, and air routes. Poblano (“Pueblan”) culture, a blending of its European and indigenous traditions, is associated with a distinctive regional cuisine and with traditional forms of clothing, music, and dance. Pop.
