The stunning Capitol of Zamboanga Sibugay (Ipil Rotunda Obelisk)

Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay - a comprehensive travel guide and things you need to know; how to get here, where to stay and budget. #81ProvincesPh

#Ipil, the capital of #ZamboangaSibugay, is the usual stop over of the buses heading to the cities of Dipolog, Pagadian and even Cagayan de Oro City. Since it's a center, like other municipalities, there are big business establishments and the streets are busy. Ipil, as a busy area, hides something unique and a very Instagram worthy tourist spots and attractions.

TOURIST SPOTS AND ATTRACTIONS:
Ipil Rotunda Obelisk
The provincial Capitol (most vibrant capitol in the Philippines)

WHERE TO STAY: Had an overnight stay at GV Hotel, just a few meters away from Jolibee. It is one of the cheapest and budget friendly hotels in Ipil. For 570 pesos, the room has toilet and bath, two single beds, cable tv, and fan (because it's a fan room). The area is secured, near food establishments, near BDO and other banks.

HOW TO GET HERE: Cebu Pacific has their regular trips to the airports in Dipolog City, Pagadian City and Zamboanga City. As previously mentioned, Ipil serves as the bus stopover, thus, you can choose either of these 3 airports. Then, you can take Rural Transit buses; Ipil to Dipolog is 5.5 hours, Ipil to Pagadian is 3 hours and Ipil to Zamboanga City is 4 hours.

BEST TOURIST SPOTS IN ZAMBOANGA CITY PHILLIPINES 2020 / Inday Garutzz

The 3rd largest city in the Philippines, Zamboanga City operates as the commercial and industrial center of the south. The city is bustling with a factory district, plenty of businesses, shops, and markets where you can find any good or service that you desire.

Dubbed “Asia’s Latin City”, you’ll see a Spanish influence in Zamboaga City, more so than in the rest of the country. For a while, Spanish was even an official language of Zamboanga City. Zamboangueño people are very proud of their cultural roots and heritage. You’ll see reflections of this in the food, language, and architecture.

It’s important to know, however, that Zamboanga City does not see many foreigners or travelers as it is located near a state of conflict. Guerilla groups live in the south of the Philippines, not too far from this gem of a city. Security has been boosted with the National Guard all around checking IDs and keeping a close watch of suspicious activity with the aims of maintaining peace. Travelers tend to keep their distance lately, but if you do decide to go to Zamboanga City, go with a Filipino that knows their way around the safest areas.

Zamboanga, the Asia's Latin City

Zamboanga City, Philippines - list of tourist spots and sharing my comprehensive travel guide; history, how to get here, where to stay and budget. #81ProvincesPh

The Latin City of Asia - the title given to #ZamboangaCity because of their language called chavacano, which is very similar to Spanish. This city is situated on the Southern side of the Zamboanga Peninsula and on the Northern side of Basilan. Aside from their language, the city is also prominent with their vinta, a colorful and stunning sailboat or watercraft that is usually used by the locals. During my Solo-Backpacking in this city, without proper itinerary and only used Google Map, I did a walking tour to their top tourist spots and destinations.

HOW TO GET HERE: I booked a flight from Manila to Zamboanga City, travel time is about an hour and fifteen minutes. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines has a daily flight to Zamboanga International Airport. From the airport, as instructed by the airport guards, I walked to the highway where I rode in a jeepney to the city hall.

TOURIST SPOTS AND DESTINATIONS:
Zamboanga City Hall
Plaza Rizal or Rizal Park
Paseo del Mar

FORT PILAR AND THE NATIONAL MUSEUM: According to the Historical Marker: Founded as southern outpost of Spanish domain under the supervision of Mechor de Vera, 1635; attacked by the Duch, 1646; deserted when troops were concentrated in Manila to drive away Chinese pirates , 1663; reconstructed by the Society of Jesus, 1666; rebuilt under the management of Juan Sicarra, 1719; stormed by Dalasi, King of Sulig, with 3,000 moros, 1720; cannonaded by the British, 1798; witnessed the mutiny of the seventy prisoners, 1872; abandoned by the Spaniards, 1898; occupied by the Americans under General J.C. Gates, 1899; seized by the Japanese, 1942; taken over by the Republic of the Philippines, 4 July 1946.

WHERE TO STAY: There are a lot of hotels, lodging and pension houses in the city, however, their rates are certainly higher than my allotted budget (less than a thousand pesos). On Google Map mobile app, I searched on hotel and it gave me alot of choices, but still expensive. Using the app, I walked on the streets and checked on the rates of all the hotels nearby. I checked in at Hermosa Hotel because they have the cheapest price, 750 pesos for an overnight stay, with two single beds, aircon, and toilet and bath. Room Quality: 6/10.
