Traveling in Nigeria-An Adventure to Kwa Waterfall Akamkpa, Cross River.

Traveling in Nigeria to Kwa Waterfalls is a place you only want to go during the dry season, if you really wish to have a full and up close view of the cascading waterfall with your soul and body still together.

DO NOT come with any slippery foot ware nor too much baggage. The fall has this alluring vibe to it, but you have to be very careful and be sure you have got your stamina and strength together before venturing. The adventure comes in a way that, it's either you hold firm and be in control or you loose grip and find yourself rolling down the steep and inside the fall.

I went on this adventure with some friends and we had a tiring but fun filled one. In the real sense it was a dangerous and mind risking attempt for an adventure.

We departed from calabar at about 9:45am and got to Akamkpa at about 10:55am. Less than an hour drive if only the road out of Calabar to the next town is in good condition. The road is in a very bad state.

Surprisingly, on getting to the next town, Akpabuyo, the rural roads were considerably good up to the point of the waterfall location.

Kwa Waterfalls is located in Anegeje village of Akamkpa Local Government area of Cross River State, Nigeria.

Best bet to get here is either you hire a cab to take you down from calabar or go through the Oban bus route using the public transport.

Basically and according to Google map the waterfall is about 41km from the main city of the state capital Calabar and is also part of the Oban division of the Cross River National Park.

The waterfall is surrounded by very beautiful lush green environment and an eye catching, sparkling natural water. The water flows down a steep gorge down to a stream that forms the main Kwa River at a very high current.

There are about 234 steps that leads down the valley where the fall is. Come with a well gripped sport footwear, a light water bottle, a back pack to keep your phone and other items. You will be needing all your hands, legs and body to climb through and avoid falling.

There is a tour guide at the fall... A rastafarian who is probably tired of the job already and now passed it to his young son of about 14/15years of age. This boy served as our tour guide and I tell you he was exceptional. Has a good command of English and very courteous. He understands the terrain well and was helpful in helping us follow the right tracks.

Gate fee and tour services stands at 500naira per head.

Nothing going on around the area, the little art museum at the reception has been abandoned. The place needs a good face-lift and renovations. A cleared path to the falls should be made and the steps well maintained.

In all, I had a good team of adventure lovers and it made things quite easy for us.

Trip to Obudu

A Drive through Calabar, Cross River State to Akpabuyo Community Nigeria

Road trip from Calabar to neighbouring community of Akpabuyo.

Driving through was a little scary as immediately we left the checkpoint leavinng Calabar town we were faced with just bushes until we got to the bridge connecting Calabar Town to the little community of Akpabuyo.

Here is this video i shared the beauty of enjoying road trips within Nigeria and how easy it can be when there is a good road network out in place.

This small agrarian community is a major supplier of agricultural product in Cross river state Calabar, Nigeria. The community is under the Akpabuyo local government area council of Cross River State.

The major ethnic group is the Efik group, while the major language spoken is Efik and English.
it was relieving to see a bank at least in the community as i stated in the video and a little mini neighbourhood market within to ease the people around.

There was not much to see left for we enjoying the beautiful Efik songs played on the radio and the beautiful green scenery.
