The Best 3-Day Road Trip Itinerary Through California Redwood National Park

On one of our road trips to Oregon a few years back, we made a quick stop at the Redwood National & State Parks in California. This place was so beautiful that we wanted to come back and spend more time here. Since it is quite large (over 38,982 acres), the trip planning was a bit tricky, especially because we only had 3 days to see everything. After tons of research, we came up with the best road trip itinerary that would allow us to experience most of what these parks have to offer. This weekend-sized itinerary features lush green forests, giant redwoods, breathtaking coastal trails as well as beautiful hidden beaches. Redwood National and State Parks is absolutely worth visiting!

California: 1 Day in Redwood National & State Parks | Drive-Thru Tree, Avenue of the Giants, & MORE!

California: 1 Day in Redwood National & State Parks | Drive-Thru Tree, Avenue of the Giants, & MORE!

Welcome to state #45 on our journey to all 50 states… California! For our time in the Golden State, we spent one day road-tripping up the Pacific Coast Highway through the Redwoods! Consisting of one national park (Redwood National Park) and three state parks (Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and Prairie Creek), the Redwood park system is the only one of its kind being jointly managed by both the National Park Service and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. And while it’s impossible to see and do everything in the 139,000 acres of the Redwoods park system in one day (or even one week!), we were able to hit some of the must-see spots like, Chandelier Tree, Avenue of the Giants, Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Stout Grove, and more!

Check out our “Must-See Stops in the Redwoods” blog for tips on planning your visit!
