Huaihua City, also known as Crane City and Hezhou and Wuxi in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in Hunan Province. 22″～29°01′25″, east longitude 108°47′13″～111°06′30″, with a total area of 27564 square kilometers. [2] Huaihua City is located in the transitional part of the mid-subtropical Sichuan-Hubei-Hunan-Guizhou climate zone and the Jiangnan climate zone. It has four distinct seasons and short periods of severe cold and summer. As of 2019, Huaihua has jurisdiction over 1 municipal district, 10 counties, 1 county-level city, and 1 administrative district. The municipal government is located in Hecheng District. According to the seventh census data, the resident population of Huaihua is 4,587,594.

The city's history spans more than 3,000 years, serving as a crucial commercial port and a major hub for the fireworks industry. It has been a vital political, military, economic, religious, and cultural center in the southwest of Hunan, often referred to as the thoroughfare of seven provinces, small Chongqing, small Nanjing, and the pearl of the west. The architectural complexes and classic residential buildings in Hongjiang are considered a live version of the famous painting Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, making it a rare and valuable cultural landscape in China.
Hongjiang Ancient Commercial City is situated at the confluence of the Yuanshui River and the Wushui River. Its development began in the Spring and Autumn period, flourished during the Tang Dynasty, and reached its zenith in the Ming Dynasty. The city is celebrated for its unique layout of eight lanes and nine streets, with ancient buildings featuring grey tiles, plastered walls, and intricately carved cornices depicting dragons and phoenixes. This layout creates a distinctive and charming urban landscape.
The city's historical significance extends beyond its architecture. It has been a major trading center for commodities like tung oil, wood, ash, and opium, making it a critical economic, cultural, and religious hub in the region. Experts have described Hongjiang Ancient Commercial City as a living fossil of capitalism in China, highlighting its importance for historical and cultural preservation as well as tourism development.
Visitors are recommended to spend a day exploring this ancient city, which is open from 08:00 to 17:00. The site is located in the Hongjiang district of Huaihua City, Hunan Province, offering a unique opportunity to experience the legacy of ancient Chinese commerce and architecture.

Ancient Fenghuang, a village in central China, used to be a frontier town, separating the Han civilization from the Miao and Dong minorities. It was an important regional center for trade and cultural exchange.
The riverside setting of the village, with its wooden stilt houses and narrow mysterious back alleys, makes it one of the most attractive places in the region.
These days, it has become a major tourist destination. While some traditions remain, much of the town has been set up to cater for the influx of new visitors, in some ways changing the face of the village beyond recognition.
Either way, Fenghuang provides an interesting glimpse of the many challenges and contrasts that exist in China today.

To celebrate the new year and celebrate auspiciousness, the 100-meter lantern promenade in Fenghuangling, Beijing, is full of lights and festoons. Tens of thousands of citizens and tourists cross this red sea to join the New Year garden party, beat the “blessing drum” and pray for blessings.
From the first day to the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, more than 60 traditional intangible cultural heritage performances, such as Beijing’s Rabbit Master, Tianjin’s Yangliuqinghua, and Jingdong Drum, gradually appeared. Tourists flocked to experience the charm of traditional culture up close.
In Yuanmingyuan, the temple fair on the second day of the Lunar New Year was crowded with tourists, who tasted various snacks and participated in various games. Even though the temperature dropped below zero, the citizens enjoyed the Spring Festival.
In a small mountain village on the Loess Plateau in Huozhou, Shanxi, the sound of gongs and drums is loud. The local majestic gongs and drums are national intangible cultural heritage. More than 20,000 people participated in Huozhou, and every village has a gongs and drums team. Of course, special delicacies are indispensable for the taste of the New Year. Huozhou Nianmo, which is as famous as the majestic gongs and drums, celebrates the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit in various shapes.
In the ancient city of Fenghuang in western Hunan, young men and women of the Miao nationality parade in costumes all the way, walking out of a beautiful landscape. A variety of folk cultural activities, such as traditional operas for the Spring Festival, guessing lantern riddles to celebrate the New Year, photography, calligraphy and painting to celebrate the New Year, and other colorful folk cultural activities, attracted many tourists to watch.
In the ancient city of Hongjiang in Huaihua, distinctive long dragons were laid out one by one. Amidst the sound of gongs, drums and shouts, wonderful movements such as Tenglong piercing the tail, crouching dragon soaring, and flying dragon circling were staged, which won the applause of the audience. Many people wear the dragon dance team, arch the dragon’s body, touch the dragon’s head, and pray for good luck in the new year.
The jade rabbit presents auspiciousness, and the two sides of the strait share this time. At 8pm on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the Spring Festival fireworks on both sides of the Taiwan Strait bloomed as scheduled in Xiamen and Kinmen. More than 70,000 fireworks rose into the sky with dazzling brilliance. Xiamen and Kinmen were separated by a river, and compatriots on both sides of the strait used the night sky as a medium to enjoy the feast of fireworks. Share the joy of the new year.
