Gadebridge Park | Urban Park | Hemel | Hempstead | Hertfordshire | England

Gadebridge Park | Urban Park | Hemel | Hempstead | Hertfordshire | England

Gadebridge Park is on the northern edges of Hemel Hempstead and is Dacorum's principal park. The park is divided into two main areas, separated by the Leighton Buzzard Road, with a total area of about 32 hectares. Gadebridge Park also features a skate park and flower garden in its green spaces. In the gardens, small bee hives provide habitats for bees as well as information on the different species.

Of this, 20 hectares are to the west of the Leighton Buzzard Road, which includes a listed excavated and re-interred Roman archaeological site, a play area and the Field of Hope daffodil display. This section of the park slopes, with the gradient falling to the Leighton Buzzard Road, which runs along the bottom of the Gade Valley. The area is used for occasional events, such as cross-country competitions and fun runs.

To the east of the Leighton Buzzard Road lies the main section of the park, which is extensively used for recreation. Two car parks within the site serve both the park and town centre and there are two blocks of public toilets. Usually there are about 10 special events held in the park each year, in addition to visits by the fun fair.

St Mary's Church sits just behind Gadebridge Park and is the oldest place of worship in Hemel, Hempstead.

Places to see in ( Hertford - UK )

Places to see in ( hertford - UK )

Hertford is the county town of Hertfordshire, England, and is also a civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district of the county. Forming a civil parish, Since 1974, Hertford has been within the East Hertfordshire district of Hertfordshire. The headquarters of Hertfordshire County Council is at County Hall in Hertford. East Herts District Council's offices almost adjoin County Hall, and there is also a Hertford Town Council based at Hertford Castle.

Hertford is at the confluence of four river valleys: the Rib, Beane and Mimram join the River Lea at Hertford to flow south toward the Thames as the Lee Navigation, after Hertford Castle Weir. The shared valley of the Lea and the Beane is called Hartham Common and this provides a large park to one side of the town centre running towards Ware and lying below the ridge upon which Bengeo is situated.

The town centre still has its medieval layout with many timber-framed buildings hidden under later frontages, particularly in St Andrew Street. Hertford suffers from traffic problems despite the existence of the 1960s A414 bypass called Gascoyne Way which passes close to the town centre. Plans have long existed to connect the A10 with the A414, by-passing the town completely. Nevertheless, the town retains very much a country-town feel, despite lying only 19.2 miles (30.9 km) north of Central London. This is aided by its proximity to larger towns such as Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Stevenage where modern development has been focused.

Suburbs and estates :

Bengeo
Foxholes Estate
Horns Mill
Pinehurst, Hertford
Rush Green
Sele Farm

In the town are the remains of the original Hertford Castle, principally a motte. The castle's gatehouse, the central part of which dates to a rebuild by Edward IV in 1463, is the home to Hertford Town Council. The Motte, from the original Motte and Bailey castle in Hertford, can be found just behind Castle Hall, a short distance from the modern castle.

In Railway Street can be found the oldest purpose-built Quaker Meeting House in the world, in use since 1670. The Hertford Corn Exchange was built on the site of a former gaol. Hertford Museum is housed in a 17th-century historic town house, with a Jacobean-style knot garden. A stained-glass window in St Andrew's Church is part of a fringe theory that links Hertford to the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail.

Hertford serves as a commuter town for London, and has two stations. Hertford East (on the Hertford East Branch Line). Hertford North (on the Hertford Loop Line) . Hertford also lies just west of the A10 and the Kingsmead Viaduct which links it south to London and the M25 and north to Royston and Cambridge.

( Hertford - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Hertford . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Hertford - UK

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.

Hemel Hempstead Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Hertfordshire, and around 25 miles northwest of central London, is the town of Hemel Hempstead.

Geographically, Hemel Hempstead (commonly referred to as simply, Hemel) lies in the Gade Valley at the edge of the Chiltern Hills, situated around the confluence of the River Gade and River Bulbourne. In the Domesday Book of 1086 it is recorded as 'Hamelamstede', at which point it was a village with around 100 residents.

In 1539 Hemel Hempstead was granted a town charter by Henry VIII, making it a 'Bailiwick' - under the jurisdiction of a Bailiff. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, Hemel was an agricultural market town with a few large country houses owned by wealthy landowners.

In 1793 construction began on the Grand Junction Canal. Starting at Paddington in London, it reached Two Waters - a district of Hemel Hempstead, in 1798. It would eventually reach Birmingham by 1805. This revolutionised the process of goods transportation between England's two biggest cities. Just a few decades later, in 1837, the railway reached Hemel Hempstead courtesy of the London and Birmingham Railway. This forms part of what is today the West Coast Main Line, linking Euston Station in London to Glasgow Central.

During the Second World War, Hemel suffered attacks from high explosive bombs dropped by the Luftwaffe. The target was allegedly a nearby munitions factory. After the war, the government designated Hemel Hempstead as the site of one of its proposed New Towns. This was a scheme to rehouse those whose homes, particularly in London, had been destroyed in the Blitz. In 1949 the first residents moved in to the new development, which grew around Hemel's Old Town.

One of the most infamous elements of the development of the New Town in Hemel is the Plough Roundabout. Situated just south of where the walk starts, it consists of six mini roundabouts in a hexagonal honeycomb lattice formation. Constructed in 1973, it goes by the nickname The Magic Roundabout, named after the children's TV programme. A similar roundabout exists in Swindon, also nicknamed The Magic Roundabout. Neither are recommended for faint-hearted motorists.

Hemel Hempstead claims to have the first purpose-built, free-standing multi-storey car park in Britain.

In 2013 a poll was conducted which found Hemel Hempstead to be the 'ugliest' town in Britain. If I may break character and chime in with my personal opinion here: at the time of writing this, I've been to around 200 town and city centres across Britain and... Hemel doesn't even come close to worst. These plonkers completely missed out the Old Town for a start. There should be a law against opining on the worst/ugliest town in Britain unless you've personally visited them all. Anyway, judge for yourself!

Where is the Highest Point in Hemel Hempstead? The Tim Traveller's - Mediocre Mountain Challenge

During June 2020 YouTube's The Tim Traveller set his fans a challenge to celebrate him reaching 100,000 subscribers. Find the highest natural point in your local area (regardless of how mediocre it may be), go and climb it, then share your experience on the internet.

Sure, the highest point here isn't normally considered a mountain...but that's the point.

This is how it all started; Tim's explanation of the challenge

Coincidentally, I've recently fostered an ambition to start making videos, and have just acquired Adobe Premiere Elements in order to do it.

I've leaned very heavily on Tim's humour and delivery style (because it's fantastically funny), and also his intro/outro music plus piano-based tracks from the Abandoned Rugs channel. Tim, I hope this is OK. Consider it a tribute :-)

Old Town hemel hempstead Quick Tour

Hemel Hempstead old town is the best part of the town of Hemel Hempstead...
With plentiful shops, pubs and restaurants and accommodation, it makes for a really enjoyable weekend break to do a pub crawl on a Saturday night, the pubs are open almost to night club hours, there is quality accommodation locally, and then a Sunday morning stroll down the Old town, maybe venturing into Gadebridge park, and then
a generous Sunday breakfast, before a leisurely drive back home.
