Travel from Heemstede to Haarlem | Netherlands
Heemstede is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Heemstede formed around the Castle Heemstede that was built overlooking the Spaarne River around 1286. Before 1296, Floris V, Count of Holland, granted Heemstede as a fiefdom to Reinier of Holy. During the 14th century, a village formed near the castle, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times in this period. A resident of this castle was Adriaan Pauw, who bought it in 1620. In 1653, Bennebroek split off from Heemstede, becoming a separate fiefdom.
Growth was slow, and in 1787 Heemstede counted 196 families. Even at that early date Heemstede had already gained the reputation it has today, of being primarily a bedroom community for the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam. Wealthy city families left the cities in the summer, escaping canal fever which caused illness from the putrid canals. As a result, many estates were built in the 17th and 18th centuries, some of which (partially) remain until today such as Oud-Berkenroede, Berkenrode, Ipenrode, Huis te Manpad, Hartekamp, Bosbeek, Meer en Bosch, Meer en Berg, and Gliphoeve.
In 1857, the municipality Berkenrode was merged with Heemstede. In 1927, the northern portion of Heemstede, including a large part of the Haarlem Forest, was in turn added to the city of Haarlem.
Haarlem is a city outside of Amsterdam in the northwest Netherlands. Once a major North Sea trading port surrounded by a defensive wall, it retains its medieval character of cobblestone streets and gabled houses. It's the center of a major flower-bulb-growing district, and famous for its outlying tulip fields, art museums and hofjes (almshouses built around leafy courtyards).

Museum Paulina Bisdom van Vliet is located in a small town called Haastrecht, about 40 mins drive from Leiden.
The museum is an authentically furnished house where you wander from room to room seeing the most beautiful pottery, pieces of furniture, paintings, and lavishly decorated curtains.
As this place is less touristic, it really feels like you are visiting a wealthy family.

N201 Hoofddorp - Heemstede - Haarlem - Aerdenhout - Bentveld - Zandvoort (NL)
The N201 is a provincial road in the provinces of Utrecht and North Holland, south of the capital Amsterdam. The road is 56 kilometers long and runs from Hilversum to Zandvoort at Sea. It is an important access route that connects a number of larger cities (Hilversum, Uithoorn, Aalsmeer, Hoofddorp, Heemstede, Haarlem) with highways in the area (A27, A2, A4, A5). In addition the N201 runs close to Schiphol Airport. Intensities are between 20,000 and 50,000 vehicles per day.
In recent years there have been adjustments to the N201. Until the 1990s the N201 was ten kilometers longer and started at Baarn. The section between Baarn and Hilversum has been renumbered to N415 and the route through the built-up area of Hilversum is now numberless. Between Mijdrecht and Hoofddorp the N201 has been redesigned on a completely new northern route including a tunnel, so that through traffic no longer has to drive through the built-up area of Uithoorn and Aalsmeer. This new section of road opened in 2012 and 2013. Adjustments have been devised for the road section between Hilversum and Vinkeveen, but a decision has yet to be taken.
In this fourth and final part of the video series on the N201 we drive from Hoofddorp to Zandvoort at Sea. Haarlem is the capital of the province of North Holland, Zandvoort is one of the most famous seaside resorts in the Netherlands. The video starts at Hoofddorp. The route to Heemstede consists of 2x2 lanes. From Heemstede there is a sequence of built-up areas: Heemstede, Haarlem, Aerdenhout and Bentveld. The route briefly passes through the dune area between Bentveld and Zandvoort. The video ends in Zandvoort at the roundabout near the water tower.

De N201 is een provinciale weg in de provincies Utrecht en Noord-Holland ten zuiden van de hoofdstad Amsterdam. De weg is 56 kilometer lang en loopt van Hilversum naar Zandvoort aan Zee. Het is een belangrijke ontsluitingsroute die een aantal grotere plaatsen (Hilversum, Uithoorn, Aalsmeer, Hoofddorp, Heemstede, Haarlem) verbindt met snelwegen in de buurt (A27, A2, A4, A5). Daarnaast loopt de N201 vlak langs luchthaven Schiphol. Intensiteiten liggen tussen 20.000 en 50.000 voertuigen per dag.
In de afgelopen jaren zijn er regelmatig aanpassingen geweest aan de N201. Zo was de N201 tot in de jaren 90 tien kilometer langer en begon deze bij Baarn. Het gedeelte tussen Baarn en Hilversum is omgenummerd naar N415 en de route door de bebouwde kom van Hilversum is tegenwoordig nummerloos. Tussen Mijdrecht en Hoofddorp is de N201 op een geheel nieuw noordelijker tracé heraangelegd inclusief een tunnel, zodat het doorgaande verkeer niet meer door de bebouwde kom van Uithoorn en Aalsmeer hoeft te rijden. Dit nieuwe wegdeel opende in 2012 en 2013. Voor het wegvak tussen Hilversum en Vinkeveen zijn aanpassingen bedacht, maar moet nog een besluit worden genomen.
In dit vierde en laatste deel van de videoserie over de N201 rijden we van Hoofddorp naar Zandvoort aan Zee. Haarlem is de hoofdstad van de provincie Noord-Holland, Zandvoort is een van de bekendste badplaatsen in Nederland. De video start ter hoogte van Hoofddorp. De route naar Heemstede bestaat uit 2x2 rijstroken . Vanaf Heemstede is er een aaneenschakeling van bebouwde kommen: Heemstede, Haarlem, Aerdenhout en Bentveld. Tussen Bentveld en Zandvoort gaat de route kortstondig door het duingebied. De video eindigt in Zandvoort op de rotonde bij de watertoren.
