Hayesville North Carolina | Walking Tour
Let's take a walking tour of Hayesville, NC! We'll walk around the town square and take a look at all the shops, restaurants, and the court house, located in the square. Join me for a walking trip around this charming small town in the South.
There are a few specific goals of Travel Towner:
1. To take fun POV (“Point-of-View”) videos of scenic drives, highways, and roadways so you can virtually travel anywhere you like; or look back at a time when you were younger.
2. Document a fun walking tour of a specific park, attraction, or point of interest so you can see what's it's like to really be there.
3. Showcase vintage footage from yesteryear to show today's viewers what is may have been like back in 19- something something! If you have any vintage footage of past attractions, parks, road trips or anything interesting from the USA? Contact me and let’s feature it here!
4. Just for Fun. These are videos that are funny or interesting in some way that I think everyone will enjoy!
Please give a thumbs up if you like taking a POV Road Trip or love POV driving.
Want to get in on the fun and make cool videos too? Here is everything I use to make it happen:

Another big part of the channel is to document a piece of Americana… at a certain point in time. Wouldn’t it be cool to go back to where you lived, 20 or 30 years ago, and take a ride through your hometown? As more roadway drives, walking tours, and vintage trips are added, it builds history so future viewers can go “back in time” and see what it was like, back then.
Roadtripping and traveling are uniquely American pastimes- and we should preserve it’s history- so future generations can appreciate the Freedom of the Road.
Please like the videos and subscribe to the channel. Leaving comments is a great way to tell ME what you’d like to see next.

Hayesville NC 4K / Hidden Gem in the North Carolina Mountains (DJI Mavic Air 2 Drone Footage) Spring
Hayesville is a town in Clay County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 311 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County.
This was long an area of indigenous settlement along the Hiwassee River. An earthwork platform mound was built here, likely by people of the South Appalachian Mississippian culture about 1000 CE. It would have been the center of their village.
Later, the historic Cherokee developed a town known as Quanassee at this site. They built their townhouse on top of the mound, to provide a place for communal discussion and reaching consensus. The town is shown on a 1725 colonial map as Qunassee; it was one of the numerous Valley Towns located along the Hiwassee River in Western North Carolina. It was also along the Trading Path (also called the Unicoi Turnpike). That road led from Quanassee west to another town at present-day Murphy, North Carolina, then over the Unicoi Range at Unicoi Gap and down to the Cherokee town of Great Tellico (today Tellico Plains, Tennessee) (Duncan 2003:245).
After the Cherokee were forced to cede their land, European Americans settled in this rural area and took over what is now known as the Spikebuck Town Mound and Village Site. They cultivated much of the village site, disturbing the topsoil layers. Some excavations were conducted in the 1960s and 1970s.[6] The town mound and village site was listed in 1982 on the National Register of Historic Places as an archeological site.
Clay County acquired the mound site in 2000 and protects it; the Archeological Conservancy acquired the town/village site and farmsteads in 2011.[6]
The town was named Hayesville after 19th-century politician George Hayes.[7] When running for representative from Cherokee County in the fall election of 1860, he learned that residents in the southeast end wanted to separate from Cherokee County and get their own county seat, because of the difficulty of traveling to the distant location. With the promise to introduce legislation to this effect, Hayes won a seat in the legislature. In February 1861 the legislation to organize a new county was introduced and passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. The county was named in honor of Kentucky statesman Henry Clay, and the county seat Hayesville, for Hayes.
The town of Hayesville was incorporated on March 12, 1913. The first mayor of Hayesville was S.E. Hogsed.
Clay County is featuring Cherokee heritage sites as part of its community redevelopment to emphasize its unique character. In addition to the Spikebuck Town Mound, it supports other Cherokee resources in Hayesville: the Quanassee Path, which highlights five Cherokee features on a walking path around Hayesville; the Cherokee Homestead Exhibit, with reconstructions of traditional summer and winter houses and a corn crib; and the Cherokee Botanical Sanctuary. In addition the CCCRA sponsors an annual Cherokee Heritage Festival.

The Georgia Mountains Region or North Georgia mountains or Northeast Georgia is an area that starts in the northeast corner of Georgia, United States, and spreads in a westerly direction. The mountains in this region are in the Blue Ridge mountain chain that ends in Georgia. At over 1 billion years of age, the Blue Ridge mountains are among the oldest mountains in the United States and sometimes mistaken to be the oldest mountains in the world (they are only about one third of the age of South Africa's 3.6 billion year old Barberton greenstone belt.). The mountains in this region are also a part of the vast system of North American mountains known as the Appalachian Mountains that spans most of the United States longitudally along the eastern areas of the nation and terminates in Alabama.
The region is known for its ruggedness and scenic beauty. The Cherokee who lived in these mountains called them ᏌᏆᎾᎦ/Sah-ka-na'-ga - Blue Smoke Mountains. Large portions of the North Georgia mountains are included in the more than 750,000 acres (3,000 km2) that comprise the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Welcome to Lake Chatuge and the Mountains!
Lake Chatuge Real Estate - Hayesville Realty
Hello. My name is Ed Reams, and I'm the Owner/
Broker of Advantage Chatuge Realty here in
Hayesville, North Carolina. My staff and I would
like to welcome you to the beautiful mountain/
lakes region of western North Carolina and
northeast Georgia.
The crown jewel of our area is Lake Chatuge,
which you see behind me. It was named for an
century Cherokee village, which was once
18th
situated near this site. It's a very large lake, with
132 miles of shoreline -- and it covers more than
7,000 acres. Half the lake is located here in Clay
County, North Carolina, and the other half is
located just across the state line in Towns County,
Georgia.
Chatuge is a man-made lake, and was built in 1942
by the TVA... the Tennessee Valley Authority.
When the lake is at full pool during Spring and
Summer, its elevation is approximately 1,928 feet
above sea level.
As the off-season approaches, the TVA releases
a small amount of water and the lake level drops
a bit -- but is then brought back up to full pool the
following Spring.
There are several U.S. Wildlife Areas situated on
the lake, all of which are available for public use.
These Wildlife Areas have miles of hiking and
biking trails, boat launches, grills, picnic tables and
beaches.
Lake Chatuge is ideal for boating, swimming,
water skiing and fishing, and is conveniently
located within two hours' driving time of Atlanta,
Chattanooga and Asheville.
If you enjoy spending part of your outdoor time on
the links, you'll be pleased to learn that there are
three golf courses located within a 10 minute drive
of Lake Chatuge.
All of the courses are open to the public, and
they're all beautiful. Personally, I'm not much of
a golfer, but I have friends who are -- and many of
them insist that our local courses here are among
the most beautiful they've ever played.
Hayesville is the county seat of Clay County,
which was named for Henry Clay, the 18th
century Congressman, Senator and Secretary
of State under John Quincy Adams. Half the
county consists of pristine lands managed by the
U.S. Forest Service. These include a number of
National Wildlife Recreational Areas.
These are great spots to get together with family
and friends. There are hiking trails galore, picnic
tables and grills, and camping sites.
Some even offer miles of horseback riding trails...
creek-fed swimming holes, and large, natural
waterfalls.
If outdoor activities aren't your cup of tea, there
are plenty of indoor activities available to you.
For example, the John C. Campbell Folk School is
an internationally renowned institution where you
can take courses on everything from photography
to dancing to painting to blacksmithing.
Or, you can attend a presentation by one of our
local theater ensembles, dance troupes, or musical
groups.
Or, you can dine at one of our local restaurants
which -- personal opinion -- rival anything which
was available to us in metro Atlanta when we lived
there.
The quality of life here in the mountain/lakes
region is wonderful, and the lake is an ever-
changing palette of colors.
The daytime hours are filled with intense blues and
greens.
As we approach evening, the reds, oranges and
magenta's appear.
And sometimes in the early morning, the lake
sleeps beneath a layer of clouds.
Throw in a full moon for good measure, and
there's nothing quite like it.
I hope you've enjoyed this brief overview. If you
are considering purchasing property here, either
as a vacation home, a primary residence, or as an
investment, I hope you'll call me or one of our
agents; it would be our privilege to assist you in
your property search.
Thanks for joining us today.
