Enjoy this Car ride along the Route Arriving at Sabana de la Mar, the sweetheart of the bay. 9 km away leaving from El Valle in 9 minutes. Beautiful tropical landscapes and grasslands, African palm plantations, cocoa cultivation and cattle raising. Province of Hato Mayo del Reyr, Dominican Republic. Through this road you can reach Los Haitises National Park and Paraiso Caño Hondo, a beautiful tourist place. Close to this route is Salto de Yanigua, a touristic treasure in the middle of this tropical jungle.

Sabana de la Mar es un pueblo pequeño de grandes atributos culturales, pero sobre todas las cosas, es la puerta hacia una de las áreas protegidas más importantes de toda la región del Caribe. Desde su recién inaugurado puerto turístico, tienes la opción de conocer el majestuoso Parque Nacional Los Haitises, una joya escénica que brinda algunos de los rincones más codiciados para el turismo.
Hato Mayor, una provincia de gran relevancia histórica, resguarda en este municipio como uno de sus más importantes secretos para el desarrollo. Con una hermosa playa ubicada justo en la división de dos imponentes bahías, una fina franja de arena blanca ideal para los aventureros en búsqueda de adornar sus vacaciones en la República Dominicana con nuevos destinos aislados.
Esta playa virgen, contiene muchísima vida y desde su orilla puedes observar estrellas de mar, varias especies de peces y aves, pero si tienes suerte muchos delfines y ballenas jorobadas. Es una maravilla más de nuestra hermosa tierra, pero también una oportunidad para que los nuevos desarrollos turísticos de la zona de Samaná puedan aportar a la economía de Sabana de la Mar, un municipio de inmenso potencial para el turismo.

The ultimate hiking and caving adventure takes you to the province of Hato Mayor, into the edges of Parque Nacional Los Haitises. From there, you’ll hike your way for approximately 15 minutes through private property to reach the entrance of one of the longest caves in the Dominican Republic. You’ll rappel your way into the entrance as there’s no other way to get inside, and proceed to spelunk through the dry cave with flashlights and the occasional water drips from stalagmites. There will be one section where you have to dip your head underwater to cross and continue the hike. It’s a fun, adrenaline-pumping hiking adventure..

El Salto Yanigua, está localizado en la comunidad del mismo nombre, a unos 10 kilómetros al oeste del municipio de El Valle, provincia de Hato Mayor.

Drive Thru Hato Mayor Del Rey + Elefante Superstore Walkthrough
Having just moved abroad to the Dominican Republic, I noticed a tremendous digital underrepresentation of our town, Hato Mayor Del Rey. In 6 months of research, we had little way to visualize what our town looked, sounded, felt, functioned, and drove like. Even more, we had no idea what products were and were not available in this small town of 70,000 people. As it turns out, Hato Mayor is a hidden gem that offers an extremely affordable, sustainable way of life along with access to a humble yet thriving community of expats.
Join us for a boots-on-the-ground exploration of this small town to see what we can find at Tienda De Variedades Elefante, a Chinese-owned and operated superstore located at the southern edge of Hato Mayor Del Rey, Dominican Republic. So far, this is the largest store with the most variety we've found in Hato in 2 months of living here. The prices range but are mostly great. With this, a pasola, and Iberia at our side, my husband, dog and I have found most of what we need to be happy here.
Full disclosure: Hato Mayor does not carry rice paper (or many Asian food products at all) and we fully intend on stocking up in the capital, Santo Domingo one of these days. 😋
