In this episode we visit The Heavenly Lake 天池, situated to the east of Urumqi. You can watch us walk around the lake then take a cable car to climb the mountain. After the cable car drops you at the top it is a further 60 minute walk to the highest peak of the mountain.
The Heavenly Lake - Tianchi (Chinese: 天池; pinyin: Tiānchí) is an alpine lake in Xinjiang, Northwest China, situated at 43°53′9.7″N 88°7′56.6″E. The name (天池) literally means Heavenly Lake and can refer to several lakes in mainland China and Taiwan. This Tianchi lies on the north side of the Bogda Shan (Mountain of God, Bogda is a Mongolian word meaning God) range of the Tian Shan (Mountain of Heaven), about 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Fukang and 45 kilometres (28 mi) east (straight-line distance) of Ürümqi. It is an alpine drift lake shaped in the Quaternary Glacier period.
Formerly known as Yaochi (Jade Lake), it was named Tianchi in 1783 by Mingliang, the Qing Commander of Urumqi Command.
The lake is 1,907 metres (6,257 ft) above sea level, covering 4.9 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi), 105 metres (344 ft) deep at the deepest point.
In 2006, it was designated for four years of restoration work at a cost of 800 million yuan (US$100 million). The plan calls for the tourism area around the lake to be increased from the present 158 km² to 548 km². The lake is classified as a highest level scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.
The lake is accessible by Provincial Highway 111 from Fukang.

In July 2021, me and my girlfriend went on a road trip through parts of Xinjiang. We got to experience this unique part of China at our own pace and saw some amazing places along the way in Urumqi, Turpan, Kumul, Balikun, and Qitai. This video is merely meant to share some impressions from this trip - without much commentary or context. I am still not sure whether I will work on more videos about travelling in Xinjiang, but felt compelled to at least publish some of the footage from this trip.

It is located in the eastern part of Xinjiang, and is the main road to the mainland of Xinjiang, and has been the throat of the Silk Road since ancient times. It is adjacent to Jiuquan City of Gansu Province in the east, Bayingoleng Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in the south, Turpan City and Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture in the west, and Mongolia in the north, and has a national first-class seasonal open port - Laoyamiao Port, which is one of the important open ports for the development of border trade between Xinjiang and Mongolia. According to the data of the seventh census, the resident population of Hami was 673,383 as of November 1, 2020 at 00:00.
In ancient times, Hami was known as Ximei (Western membrane), Gurongdi, Kunmo, and in the Han Dynasty as Iwu or Iwu Lu, and in the Tang Dynasty as Izhou. It was called Hami Li in Yuan and Hami in Ming. Hami City has the jurisdiction of Izhou District, Balikun Kazakh Autonomous County and Iwu County, with a total area of 142,100 square kilometers.
