Rennes is the capital city of Brittany, northwest France. It's known for its medieval half-timbered houses and grand Rennes Cathedral. Parc du Thabor includes a rose garden and aviary. South of the Vilaine river, the Musée des Beaux-arts displays works by Botticelli, Rubens and Picasso. The Champs Libres cultural center houses the Musée de Bretagne (Brittany Museum) and Espace des Sciences, featuring a planetarium.
Rennes is not often mentioned on tourist guides but this medium size town is well worth a visit. It has more than 200,000 inhabitants, of whom about 60,000 are students. This gives the town a vibrant nightlife. Some streets, such as the Rue Saint Michel, have only bars on both sides. (The locals actually call Rue Saint Michel la rue de la soif, which means Street of Thirst). A stroll down Rue Saint Michel on a Friday or Saturday evening is a very interesting experience indeed. However, if you're really in the mood to faire la fête, celebrate or just have fun in other words, the most exciting night on Rue de la Soif would be the Jeudi Soir, Thursday nights, during the school year. Jeudi Soir is the night when bars are most often packed to the brim with students. The sights on Thursday nights out on the town are very memorable and interesting.
Rennes is particularly nice in early July, during the Festival des Tombées de la Nuit. Its streets are then full of people enjoying the free street entertainment and eating or drinking at the terraces of the restaurants and cafés. Rennes used to be virtually empty after the 15th of July, as most of its inhabitants were migrating to the coast until the 15th August. In recent years, this trend seems to have stopped and Rennes's terraces and cafes are now bustling throughout the year.
One highlight of Rennes, if you're after natural beauty and tranquility, is the Thabor. This park has a stunning collection of plantlife, including a large bed of hundreds of species of roses, tropical, African and European trees, other beautiful and rare plants, and offers the traveller a chance to see some budgies. TRAVEL RENNES CITY ( The Capital of Brittany )
Rennes is the capital of Brittany in northwestern France, as well as the Ille-et-Vilaine department. It is a medium-sized town with 240,000 inhabitants (known as Rennais), a third of which are students. Much of the city has been modernized and there is a new shopping mall located in the center called La Visitation which is patronized by locals and students alike. A busy, thriving city, Rennes has much to see and do. Plenty of restaurants and shopping facilities, and there is a buzz throughout the year. Brittany’s culinary history has always delighted the most discerning palates and the quality and variety of its products have made it the second most gastronomic region in France. Local industries include car manufacturing and telecommunications.
The city’s name is derived from the Redones, a Celtic tribe that established its capital there. Under Roman occupation, the town became the center of communications in the province of Armorica. In the Middle Ages, it vied with Nantes as the capital of the dukes of Brittany. The rivalry continued when a Parliament of Brittany was created in 1551; the Parliament finally settled at Rennes 10 years later. During the French Revolution (1787–99), it became the headquarters of the republican army in the fighting with the Vendéens (royalist insurgents). Rennes was bombed and partly destroyed in World War II.
The city was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1720 and was rebuilt from a plan that gave it wide, regular streets and the main axis running east and west along the canalized Vilaine. The few surviving buildings from before the fire, on the northern side of the Vilaine, include the imposing Palais de Justice, which was the House of Parliament of Brittany from 1618 to 1655. Its Grand Chambre, where the Parliament sat, was a magnificent hall with fine decorations, but the building was heavily damaged by fire in 1994. The railway and most of the modern districts are on the south side of the Vilaine.

La Forêt de Brocéliande (4K)
About 30km west of Rennes, the forest of Paimpont is all that remains of the vast forest that covered ancient inland Brittany . Legend has it that the 40km2 of woodland is also the location of mythical Brocéliande, the forest of King Arthur.
The largest forest massif in Brittany covering more than 7,000 hectares, there is a great diversity of landscapes shaped by the generations who have populated this territory since distant times.
To the west, the more or less wooded moors compete for the space with softwood forests. It is the high forest that dominates the entire region at an altitude of 255 meters. The low forest, to the east, has preserved part of its oak and beech undergrowth. It has a series of ponds whose waters, in other times, fed the famous Paimpont forges.
It is also home to a diverse fauna consisting of large mammals, deer, deer, wild boar and migratory birds on the ponds.

今回はフランス北西部のブルターニュ地方の首都、Rennes（レンヌ）の街歩き動画です。
レンヌは学生の街といわれており、街中は沢山の若者で溢れており、とても活気のある街です。
レンヌはパリからTGVで1時間半から2時間ほどの都市で、毎年たくさんの日本人観光客が訪れます。ですが、ほとんどの日本人観光客は、かの有名なモンサンミッシェルへ行くための電車とバスの乗り換え地点としてレンヌ駅を利用しますが、レンヌの市内まで来られるのはごくわずかです。
レンヌはブルターニュの大都市とはいえ、のんびりしており、パリとは違う雰囲気を味わうことができます。
レンヌ駅からメトロで5分ほどで レンヌの中心街に来ることができます。街自体はそれほど大きくなく、半日あれば中心地をぐるっと一周できます。
コロナ後に、モンサンミッシェルに来てみようという方、ぜひ旅の途中でレンヌを散歩してみてはいかがでしょうか？(*^-^*)
