Granville, France... a town in a country typically seen as the place for fashion, and the home town of Christian Dior; but who is Cristian Dior? Just kidding, I do sort of know who he is, and what he has done. Today we will be paying a visit to Granville, France, the childhood home of Christian Dior, as well as an aquarium in Christian Dior's hometown of Granville here in France.
Everything in Granville is situated right on the sea, including Christian Dior's childhood home, and the aquarium. While visiting we also see reminders of world war II and the German occupation of France. Its a beautiful place, so I hope you will join us for a look around Granville, the aquarium, and the Christian Dior home.

Granville, Normandy - France 4K Travel Channel
Granville in the Normandy, a climatic spa and seaside resort, lies in the southwest of the peninsula Cotentin. The life of this town was linked with the sea. It does not surprise that a fishing port and a yacht port determine the urban features. In addition you find spacious sandy beaches outside the town.
The name of the town derives from the noble family of Grant, who got their possessions from William the Conqueror. Due to missing male descendants, in 1230, the town was transferred to the Argouges family. There were always close relations between Saint Michel and Granville, since the churches of Saint Michel were built of granite originating from the neighborhood of Granville.
After the Kingdom of England had conquered the complete Normandy, with the exception of Saint Michel, Sir Thomas Scalles build a fortress. The defenders of Saint Michel conquered it and expelled the British from the land once and for all. King Charles VII of France expanded the fortress into a fortified city.
Jews expelled from Spain settled here in 1492. They worked as money lenders and produced gold jewelry. This helped the town to a major upswing. With the emergence of the cod fishery, life linked more strongly with the sea. The city has produced 15 admirals and corsairs.
In the summer month, the beach tourism determines the appearance of the town.
Festival des voiles de travail - Festival of the working sailing ships
During our visit to the idyllic town, a festival of working sailing ships took place in the harbor. Beautiful tall ships and frigates lay at the wharf and could also be visited. Knowledgeable staff explained the different activities on different ships and told of the everyday life of the crews.
A highlight was the 3-master Etoile du Roy (ex Grand Turk). The frigate is a replica of a 47 m long corsaires frigate from the eighteenth century. She was armed with 20 guns. Her home port is the old city wall of Saint Malo.
The festival was accompanied by culinary tastings, lectures and children's programs.
