Fruit Picking with Steve's Kitchen (Golden Grove)
Golden Grove Citrus Orchard is located 14km along the Chittering Road, north-east from Bullsbrook off Great Northern Highway, 60km from Perth.
The Orchard is situated amidst the undulating hills of the Chittering Valley, where high quality citrus is grown. It consists of over 13,000 trees, containing three varieties of Summer oranges(Valencia). These are best from August to May. During the hot weather January to March a green tinge is present on the skin. This does not affect the taste.
During the Winter and Spring (peak season for citrus harvest) there are six varieties of Navel oranges including a Red flesh navel. We have Seville oranges, great for marmalade, also a low acid orange that is very popular for tropical tastes and is non-allergic for people who cannot normally eat oranges.
Other citrus varieties include Lemons, Limes, Grapefruit (Red flesh) and we still grow white flesh grapefruit and the most popular crop Mandarins (several varieties). These crops are only available in Winter and Spring - June to October in Western Australia.

Long Trip Home via Evening Bus from Lyell McEwin Hospital to Golden Grove October 2023
We use the Moovitapp to examine the evenings direct buses running from Lyell McEwin Hospital to the 103,000 citizens of the City of Tea Tree Gully. This is around 25% of the total number who will potentially work, study or attend the Hospital.
* The Lyell McEwin Hospital is the biggest employer in the City of Playford, employing 5,185 people (3,777 FTE).
* Last financial year there were 73,450 presentations to the emergency department and 17,118 admissions
* The Lyell McEwin Hospital is one of three Tertiary hospitals in the State and provides a full range of major complex obstetric, medical, surgical and diagnostic, and support services to those living in the north.
* The northern area of Adelaide is currently the highest population growth area in South Australia, and by 2026 it is expected a quarter of the state’s population will live in the northern metropolitan catchment area.
* Visiting Hours finish at 8:00 pm daily
From 04:44am, in the morning, the J1 Bus offers a 30 minute frequency and 20 minute travel time to Golden Grove Interchange, then to Tea Tree Plaza Interchange and beyond.
The last J1 departing LMH at 06:42pm in the evening. There after, there are no J1 buses scheduled to deal with Staff, Students and Visitors departing from After Hours Clinics and the ending of Visiting Hours.
These people are then forced to use a variety of bus routes involving 2 changes of bus at various locations. They also face ravel time times between 90 minutes and 105 minutes to Golden Grove.
These evening people will have the added confusion of changing their departure from Stop 54B East Haydown Road to Stop 55 East Side John Rice Ave This involves crossing the busy John Rice Ave which is a Limited Access Road (Freeway). They must hail the bus. This involves a continued tension because the bus will not stop if the people do not signal the driver. .
In the video we examine three of these route options.
By contrast there are more buses in the reverse direction, Down from the CBD. Starting with the first arrival at 06.31am at LMH and continuing until 06:13pm
From 06:13pm until 10.02pm the J1 bus has 7 buses from the CBD that go via LMH to the Elzabeth IC and terminate. There is no return run UP to the CBD via LMH.
After the 8:00 pm end of visiting hours people have the choice to start their bus trip home via Salisbury Interchange using
8:13 pm 400 Bus from John Rice
8:34 pm 224M Bus from Haydown
9:13 pm 400 Bus from John Rice
9:34 pm 224M Bus from Haydown
Each of these will involve 3 separate buses and will take a minimm of 60 Minutes
Strangely at the same time the J1 UP service to the CBD continues with 3 starting from Golden Grove IC Later, a further 3 UP services to the CBD start from the TTP IC.
It is as if the planners have forgotten there are thousands of people would need to return home from the LMH in the evenings.
It is suggested that 3 of these 7 Down services to Elizabeth IC could be turned around to join the afore mentioned UP Services which are currently scheduled to start at Golden Grove IC.
The J1 Bus terminating at Elizabeth IC at 10.11 PM could be turned around to join the J1 Service that Departs UP from TTP IC at 11:05 PM.
Town Planning by the S.A, Government has created areas of high density housing around the Tea Tree Plaza IC, Golden Grove Park + Ride, Golden Grove IC and the Paradise IC. This density should be prompting the use of public transport. It is suggested this same S.A. Government is not providing adequate public transport North of Grand Junction Road.
* We currently do not have TAP OFF on our public transport and therefore cannot implement Fare Zoning
* Cross City Bus & Rail Routes should be offered on a higher pricing structure to that for Local Bus and Rail Routes.
* Fare-Box Recovery of 20% is hardly sustainable.
* Differential Fares should be offered to reduce congestion.
* Trips on routes through areas of high congestion should be offered at a high price to those though areas of low congestion.
* Discounts offered to person in various categories including residential in outer zones..

Melville Grove Reserve has a little secret playground that is the cutest thing. It’s tucked away from view, secret squirrel style, down a small pedestrian lane. Just look out for this sign on Hectorville Road (just across the road from The Red Mill Bakehouse). There’s also access down a lane from Melville Grove too.
