1: Birsingha village is located in Ghatal Tehsil of Paschim Medinipur district in West Bengal. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was born in a Hindu Brahmin family to Thakurdas Bandyopadhyay and Bhagavati Devi at Birsingha village in the Ghatal subdivision of Paschim Midnapore District on 26 September 1820. It is situated 11.6km away from Ghatal Police Station & 11.6km away from Ghatal Central Bus Stand. Midnapur is the district headquarter of Birsingha village.

2: 11 km away from Chandrakona on the banks of river Shilabati, the land of red soil and sal forest, Garbeta is associated with the history of Layek revolt. 6 km away from Garbeta railway station on the bank of river Shilabati, is the red laterite soiled field of Gangani. According to history, the revolt was named as Layek revolt of Bagri or Paik revolt. Their leader, Sardar Achal Singh was hanged by the British. In summer days, the air becomes heated here. Hence, the name of the field is Gangani, i.e., heated.

3: Gopegarh, i believe very few people know about it.It's nice place to visit, and if you need can stay also. Now it is more a picnic spot than a staying place. Tourist who loves nature must visit this place and can have a one night stay having all facilities with AC room, good food and lovely nature.

4: Jagannath Mandir in Beside Puja Mall, Kharagpur is one of the top Temples in Beside Puja Mall, Kharagpur.

5: The Hijli Eco Park is one of the famous natural eco parks located at a distance of 12 kms from the centre of the city of Kharagpur, close to the world famous Indian Institute of Technology. The eco park is located just a kilometer away from Prem Bazar gate.

6: Wonderful place to spend a day with family and friends.
Across the boundary wall of Airabat Banabitan, the model forest Arabari Jungle was formed in 1972 with dense forest and hills spreading over 134 sq km. Elephants move about in the forest of akashmani, eucalyptus and sal trees. Trapping the wild elephant with the help of kunki, i.e. pet female elephant, is full of adventure and romance.

7: Jhargram, 181 km from Kolkata, Jhargram is the paradise of nature lovers with beautiful forests of sal, mahul, wild elephants, deer and birds. The ancient temples, royal palaces, folk tunes and tribal rhythms make it all the more attractive destination of tourists who love to discover the unknown and unaffected beauties of nature.

8: Belpahari, 35 km from Jhargram, is a major tourist destination in Midnapore District. It is a forest paradise under the Dolma Hills, located at a distance of 45 km from Jhargram. Foothills on Belpahari are thickly forested by a variety of tropical trees. Sal, Mahua, Piyal, Sonajhuri, Shirish and Eucalyptus are some of the common hardwood trees.

9: Parimal Kanon is a picnic spot. It is situated near Chandrokona Road Railway station and few km away from Kolkata.It is located about half km from Chandrakona Road railway station. The park is spread over 30 ha with small forests. There is rose garden, flower garden,Aviary, medicinal plants garden, arboretum, boating, Aquarium,children garden,toy train and picnic sheds.Two cottages(4beds),one dormitory (16beds),8 rooms(16beds) and one meeting hall(100 capacity)with parking facility available.

10: Sukumar Sengupta Smriti udyan is situated in Midnapore town near Medinipur railway station and Medinipur Central Bus stand.

Chandrakona is a town and a municipality in the Ghatal subdivision of Paschim Medinipur district in the state of West Bengal, India. The city is located between Ghatal and Garhbeta. The king – Chandraketu was the founder of the kingdom of Chandrakona. In Ain-E-Akbari it was mentioned as ‘Mana’.During Mughal rule Chandrakona retained its status of a semi-independent kingdom. By the middle of the 16th century Birbhan Singh, a Chauhan, began a new line of rulers. They efficiently ruled over the town for about 150 years, till in the early eighteenth century Maharaj Kirtichandra of Burdwan overthrew Raghunath Singh, the last of them. However, most of what constitutes the glory of Chandrakona, its temple complexes and its large tanks, tell us of the interest the Bhan rulers took in public works as well as of their patronage of religion and art. The legendary prosperity of Chandrakona, a town with fifty-two market places and a network of fifty-three inter-linked roads, owed itself to the efficient administration of the Bhan rulers.Chandrakona came under the British East India Company in 1760. The textile industry was most hardly hit as a consequence. The famous weavers of Chandrakona had either to re-locate or to take up farming as profession. However, the town held its own as an important centre of trade and commerce. In the nineteenth century Chandrakona was known for producing quality brass utensils. It got its municipal administration in 1869 and Beverley's Census Report of Bengal, 1872, records that the town had a population of 21,311; that is to say, almost equal to its present population. Once a part of Hooghly district, the town was incorporated into the Ghatal subdivision of Medinipur district in 1872. Over the next six decades the population of the town depleted alarmingly. In 1931, it was reported to have a population of a little over 6000.Like its more famous neighbour Bishnupur, Chandrakona may also be termed a temple town. Its temples display the blending of several architectural styles - the Rekha-Deul, the char-chala and at-chala styles of Bengal, and so on. Some of them, like the one at Mitrasenpur, are decorated with excellent terracotta plates depicting events from the Mahabharata and the Avatars of Vishnu. The pancharatna temple of Malleswar is also a grand structure. But most of these temples have become dilapidated, and hardly any effort is being made to preserve these heritage structures. In addition to the temples, there are three Asthals i.e. monastic establishments of the Sri Vaishnava Ramanuja sampradaya hailing from the spiritual lineage of the Ahobila Mutt.
The eminence of the Dharmathakur cult in Chandrakona points to the co-existence for centuries of Brahminical and non-Brahminical religions. Several Dharmathakur images are found at Gobindapur, Narahipur and Jayantipur localities of Chandrakona. The Shivagajan festival at the end of the Bengali year, one of the major religious festivals in Chandrakona, is also reminiscent of pre-Aryan rituals.

Ghatal Bhasa Pol || Ghatal Floating Bridge || Medinipur || Mon Ja Chai

Ghatal is a city and a municipality in Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Ghatal subdivision. Ghatal is a flood-prone area and in many years is flooded by the Shilabati River. The river Shilabati divided the city into two parts.There is one peculiar floating bridge on the river made of by joining some boats tied with rope from both sides in the banks, called Bhasa Pool (floating bridge).

This is one of the ancient creations of the Industrial Town Ghatal. This bridge on River Shilabati is made with flat broad wooden platforms on boats floating on river. The bridge adjusts its height on high and low tides. The bridge can be opened once a day to facilitate the water transportation.

This is a heritage bridge for the west bengal people.Because this type of bridge are not doneany where in India.

পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার ঘাটাল থানার অন্তর্গত প্রান্তিক এক গ্রাম....চাউলি। গ্রামের শিবতলা অঞ্চলে রয়েছে টেরাকোটার অলংকরণসমৃদ্ধ এক আটচালা শিবমন্দির.....শীতলানন্দ শিবমন্দির। তবে স্থানীয়দের কাছে বুড়োশিবের মন্দির নামেই এটি পরিচিত। মন্দিরের একেবারে লাগোয়া, টিনের ছাউনি দেওয়া একটি নাটমন্দির আছে। তবে এটি থাকায় মন্দিরের উপরের অংশের ছবি তুলতে বেশ অসুবিধার সম্মুখীন হতে হয়।

পশ্চিমমুখী দেবালয়টি একদুয়ারী। প্রবেশদরজার উপরের অংশে রামায়ণধর্মী আর পৌরাণিক চরিত্রের কিছু পোড়ামাটির ফলক রয়েছে। প্রবেশদরজার দু'পাশে রয়েছে পাগড়ি পরিহিত দুই ভক্তজনের মূর্তি। দরজার কাঠের পাল্লাদুটিতে খোদাই করা শঙ্খবাদিকার দুটি মূর্তি নজর কাড়ে। বাঁকানো কার্ণিশের নীচের সমান্তরাল কুলুঙ্গির সারিতে কিছু মূর্তিফলক রয়েছে। এদের মধ্যে প্রতিষ্ঠাফলকটিও লক্ষ্য করা যায়। ১৭৩১ শকাব্দ বা ১৮০৯ খ্রীস্টাব্দে এটি নির্মিত হয়েছিল। এছাড়াও মন্দিরটির দুই ধারে উল্লম্ব কুলুঙ্গির দু'টি সারিতেও রয়েছে পৌরাণিক দেবদেবী, শৈবসাধু, বিষ্ণুর দশাবতার প্রভৃতি মূর্তিফলক। মন্দিরটির দক্ষিণদিকের দেয়ালে দু'টি মিথুনধর্মী ফলক নজরে আসে।

দুশো বছরেরও বেশি প্রাচীন এই আটচালা শিব মন্দিরটি গঠনগত দিক থেকে এখনো বেশ ভালো অবস্থায় আছে, তবে মন্দিরের সংস্কারকাজের সময়ে পোড়ামাটির মূর্তিগুলোর উপরে চড়া রঙের মোটা প্রলেপ দেওয়ার ফলে মূর্তিগুলোর সূক্ষ্মতা একেবারে নেই বললেই চলে।

টেরাকোটা অলংকরণসমৃদ্ধ এক প্রাচীন মন্দির রয়েছে ঘাটালের কাছাকাছি চাউলি নামের এক প্রত্যন্ত গ্রামে। স্থানীয় জানা পরিবারের প্রতিষ্ঠিত শ্রীধর জীউয়ের মন্দির।

জানা গেল, প্রায় ২২৫ বছর আগে এই মন্দিরের প্রতিষ্ঠা হয়েছিল....তবে প্রতিষ্ঠাতার নাম এখন আর জানা যায় না।

মন্দিরের সামনেই রয়েছে নাটমন্দির। তবে মন্দিরের একেবারে লাগোয়া এই নাটমন্দিরটি থাকাতে মূল মন্দিরের ছবি তোলা খুবই অসুবিধাজনক।

পঞ্চরত্নশৈলীতে তৈরি এই দেবালয়ের প্রবেশপথ ত্রিখিলানবিশিষ্ট। খিলান তিনটির উপরের অংশে অনেক টেরাকোটার মূর্তি লক্ষ্য করা যায়। এগুলো সবই রামায়ণকাহিনী আর কৃষ্ণকাহিনী বিষয়ক। মিথুনধর্মী ফলক‌ও আছে।

কার্নিশ থেকে ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর পর্যন্ত উল্লম্ব টেরাকোটার ফলকের সারিতে রয়েছে কিছু পৌরাণিক দেবদেবী, বিষ্ণুর দশাবতার প্রভৃতি চিত্র। খিলানস্তম্ভগুলোর গায়েও একসময় অনেক পোড়ামাটির মূর্তি ফলকসজ্জা ছিল। তবে বর্তমানে একেবারেই অস্পষ্ট সেগুলো।

স্থাপত্যের দিক থেকে মন্দিরটি এখন‌ও তেমন জীর্ণতাপ্রাপ্ত হয়নি, মোটামুটি ভালো অবস্থাতেই দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে। তবে পোড়ামাটির অলংকরণগুলো একে তো ক্ষয়েই গেছে, তার উপরে মোটা রঙের প্রলেপ পড়ার ফলে সেগুলোর সূক্ষ্মতা একেবারেই নেই।
