Welcome to our video on the top things to do in Gozo, Malta. Gozo, Malta’s sister island, offers a tranquil escape with its stunning landscapes, historic sites, and charming villages. Here are some of the best places to visit and activities to enjoy in Gozo.

Begin your journey in Victoria, the capital city of Gozo. Explore the Cittadella, a fortified city with stunning views of the island. Wander through the narrow streets, visit the Cathedral of the Assumption, and explore the museums housed within the citadel’s walls.

Visit the Ġgantija Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest free-standing structures in the world. These megalithic temples date back over 5,500 years and offer a fascinating glimpse into Malta’s prehistoric past.

Relax at Ramla Bay, Gozo’s most famous beach. Known for its striking red sand and clear turquoise waters, Ramla Bay is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the natural beauty of the island. Don’t miss the nearby Calypso Cave, said to be the legendary home of the nymph Calypso from Homer’s Odyssey.

Discover the Azure Window’s successor at Dwejra Bay. While the iconic Azure Window collapsed in 2017, the area still offers breathtaking natural beauty, including the Inland Sea and the Blue Hole, a popular spot for diving and snorkeling.

Explore the Ta’ Pinu Basilica, a stunning church and important pilgrimage site located in the countryside. Admire the beautiful architecture and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, with panoramic views of the Gozitan landscape.

Take a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon on the nearby island of Comino. Known for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, the Blue Lagoon is a perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, and soaking up the sun. Boat tours to Comino are easily accessible from Gozo.

Visit the Xwejni Salt Pans, located along the northern coast of Gozo. These centuries-old salt pans are still used for salt production today. Walk along the coast to see the unique geometric patterns and learn about the traditional salt-harvesting process.

Explore the charming village of Xagħra, home to the Ġgantija Temples and other historic sites. Visit the Xagħra Stone Circle, an ancient burial site, and the Ninu’s Cave and Xerri’s Grotto, both featuring impressive underground formations.

Discover Gozo’s rich history at the Gozo Museum of Archaeology, located in Victoria’s Cittadella. The museum showcases artifacts from Gozo’s prehistoric, classical, and medieval periods, offering insights into the island’s past.

Enjoy a relaxing day at San Blas Bay, a secluded beach known for its golden-red sand and clear waters. The beach is less crowded than Ramla Bay and offers a peaceful escape surrounded by nature.

EDEN DESTINATIONS IN MALTA & GOZO

There are six EDEN award-winning destinations in the Maltese Islands: Senglea, Mellieha and the Hamlet of Manikata, Gharb, Nadur, Kercem - the Hamlet of Santa Lucija and Xaghra.

The EDEN initiative is an initiative promoting sustainable tourism development models across the EU. It is based on national competitions that take place every other year and result in the selection of a tourist ‘destination of excellence ‘ for each participating country. Through the selection of destinations, EDEN effectively achieves the objective of drawing attention to the values, diversity and common features of European tourist destinations.

This promotional video produced by MTA was launched at a special conference held on 27 October 2016 at Mellieha Holiday Centre. An itinerary of the six destinations was also launched during the Conference. The event and the itinerary are co-funded by the European Commission and the Ministry for Tourism.

2:12 Villa Rundle Garden Triq Ninu Cremona, Victoria, Island of Gozo, Malta

Right next to the Duke Shopping Centre these delightful gardens are beautifully maintained and a lovely way to while away an hour or so. Some lovely statues and some impressive plants and trees, some of which, were planted over 100 years ago. A lot of thought has gone into the use of space and colour in this garden and the centrepiece bridge is lovely.

6:08 The Citadel Victoria, Island of Gozo, Malta

Once in Gozo, one should surely go to the Citadel. With only a few families living within the Citadel walls, and the magnificent baroque Cathedral of Gozo, the Gozitan Law Courts and the Bishop's Palace at the piazza, this place will take you back in time and helps you imagine of how live was back in the days.

There's a visitors' Centre, the Cathedral Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, the Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, the Old Prison, the Old Gunpowder Magazine, the Grain Silos, the Battery and the World War II Shelter. So if you're into history, there's a lot to see.

Just walk in the Citadel's narrow streets, and appreciate the calmness it is surrounded by.

9:20 Ta' Pinu National Shrine
40 George Borg Olivier St, Gharb, Island of Gozo, Malta

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu is a Roman Catholic minor basilica and national shrine located some 700 metres from the village of Għarb on the island of Gozo, the sister island of Malta. The church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu.

Gozo Ferry Port Cirkewwa, Mellieha, Island of Malta, Malta

The ferry port is well served by public transport and the round trip to Gozo is only 4.65 euros.

MALTA & GOZO [4K] – MALTA’23 W 11 DNI! – TOP 40! DRONE & WALK (#0 zabytki i atrakcje wyspy słońca)

... zapowiedź kolejnego cyklu wizualnych opowieści ... tym razem o Malcie. Wszystkie odwiedzone miejscowości zostaną udokumentowane oddzielnymi filmami. Polecam śledzenie szczegółowej relacji z wyprawy … ;-)

The Rotunda of Xewkija, located in the picturesque island of Gozo, Malta, stands as a magnificent testament to the rich history and religious devotion of the Maltese people. This grand structure, also known as the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, holds a special place in the hearts of the locals and attracts visitors from all over the world. With its awe-inspiring architecture and significant cultural importance, the Rotunda of Xewkija stands as a symbol of faith and community.

The Rotunda of Xewkija, situated in the village of Xewkija on the island of Gozo, Malta, is an architectural masterpiece that never fails to capture the attention of those who lay eyes on it. This imposing structure dominates the landscape, its majestic presence standing tall and proud against the Gozitan sky. The Rotunda, with its striking dome, is a prime example of neo-Romanesque architecture, and its unique design sets it apart from other churches on the island.

Originally built in 1978 to replace an older church, the Rotunda of Xewkija took over twenty years to complete. Its construction was a labor of love for the community, with dedicated craftsmen and artisans working diligently to bring this grand vision to life. The church was consecrated in 1994 and has since become a focal point for religious activities, celebrations, and gatherings in Xewkija.

The Rotunda of Xewkija is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, who is considered the patron saint of the village. St. John the Baptist holds great significance in the Christian faith and is revered as the one who baptized Jesus Christ. His influence is deeply ingrained in Maltese culture, and his feast day, celebrated on the 24th of June, is a vibrant and joyous occasion for the people of Xewkija.

The interior of the Rotunda is equally impressive, with its spacious and ornate design. The grandeur of the church is enhanced by the elegant marble flooring and the beautifully crafted altars that adorn the sanctuary. Intricate frescoes and intricate stained glass windows depict religious scenes, adding to the overall spiritual ambiance of the space. The dome itself is a marvel to behold, its intricate design and breathtaking views from the top making it a popular destination for visitors.

The Rotunda of Xewkija not only serves as a place of worship but also as a center for community life. It hosts various religious ceremonies, including weddings, baptisms, and religious processions. The church also acts as a cultural hub, hosting concerts, art exhibitions, and other community events. The Xewkija Philharmonic Society, founded in 1863, plays an essential role in the musical life of the church, providing the faithful with beautiful hymns and inspiring performances during religious festivities.

Beyond its religious and cultural significance, the Rotunda of Xewkija serves as a symbol of the strong communal spirit that exists in Xewkija and Gozo as a whole. The church represents the unity and resilience of the local people, who take great pride in their village and its landmark structure. The Rotunda has become an icon of Gozo, attracting tourists who are eager to witness its beauty and learn about its rich history.

In conclusion, the Rotunda of Xewkija, also known as the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, stands as a testament to the enduring faith and cultural heritage of the Maltese people. With its awe-inspiring architecture, rich history, and significant religious importance, the Rotunda serves as a symbol of the deep-rooted traditions and communal spirit of Xewkija and Gozo. As visitors marvel at its grandeur, they cannot help but be captivated by the profound sense of spirituality and community that emanates from this remarkable structure. The Rotunda of Xewkija is a true gem of Malta, a place where history, faith, and architectural splendor converge to create an experience that is both visually stunning and spiritually uplifting. It stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of St. John the Baptist and serves as a beacon of hope, unity, and devotion for all who enter its hallowed walls.

Let me Share you one of the best place of interest in Malta the Comino Island. Join me on my Adventure as I show you the Amazing Island that you can Visit in Summer.

Comino (Maltese: Kemmuna), formerly called Ephaestia is a small island of the Maltese archipelago between the islands of Malta and Gozo in the Mediterranean Sea, measuring 3.5 square kilometres (1.4 sq mi) in area. Named after the cumin seed that once flourished in the Maltese islands, the island is the least densely populated area in the Republic of Malta. It has a permanent population of only two residents, following the deaths of two other residents in 2017 and 2020. Administratively, it is part of the municipality of Għajnsielem, in southeastern Gozo. One priest and one policeman commute from the nearby island of Gozo. The island is a bird sanctuary and nature reserve.

Comino is known to have been inhabited by farmers during Roman times, but for long periods in its history it has been sparsely populated, privately owned, or abandoned entirely. Its rugged coastline is delineated by sheer limestone cliffs, and dotted with deep caves which were popular with pirates and marauders in the Middle Ages. The caves and coves of Comino were frequently used as staging posts for raids on hapless boats crossing between Malta and Gozo. From 1285 until some time after 1290, Comino was the home of exiled Jewish prophet and Kabbalist Abraham Abulafia. It was on Comino that Abulafia composed his Sefer ha-Ot (The Book of the Sign), and his last work, Imre Shefer (Words of Beauty).

The building purposely built as barracks, later used for quarantine and hospital
In later years, the Knights of Malta used this island as hunting and recreational grounds. The Knights were fiercely protective of the local game, which consisted of wild boar and hares (Maltese: fenek tal-grixti): upon conviction, poachers were liable to a penalty of three years as a galley slave. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Comino served as a place of imprisonment or exile for errant knights. Knights who were convicted of minor crimes were occasionally sentenced to the lonely and dangerous task of manning St. Mary's Tower.

During the French occupation of Malta, Comino served as a quarantine and existing buildings served as an isolation hospital. The island served as a temporary prison site before a decision on the accused is taken.

On 6 March 1889 the British battleship HMS Sultan grounded on an uncharted rock in the Comino Channel, ripping her bottom open. She slowly flooded and, in a gale on 14 March 1889 she slipped off the rock and sank. The Italian firm of Baghino & Co raised her in August 1889 for a fee of £50,000. On 27 August, Sultan was brought into Malta

MALTA: Gozo-Bethlehem in Ghajnsielem (Spirit of Christmas)

MALTA: Gozo - Bethlehem in Ghajnsielem (Spirit of Christmas)

We recently visited the beautiful island of Gozo and amongst others, we went to see Bethlehem in Ghajnsielem and were very impressed by what we saw and we'd like to share these photos and videos with you all.

Bethlehem in Ghajnsielem is a large living crib spanning 20,000 sq meters of fields and buildings bringing the timeless Christmas story to life as never before. The atmosphere was simply unique. The area has been changed into a large living crib, where horses turn mills, villagers go about their jobs, shepherds inhabit caves, animals roam in enclosed spaces and a poor unknown couple tend their newly-born in a grotto.

This is the 2nd edition of Bethlehem in Ghajnsielem. In 2008, it attracted over 60,000 visitors.
The event is sponsored by the Ghajnsielem Local Council and managed by Mr Franco Ciangura who is assisted by several volunteers from leading village organizations. This year's edition builds on what was achieved last year. It's worth visiting. Prosit Franco and volunteers.

Feliz Navidad and Long time ago in Bethlehem are played by Ron Crandlemere of Alberta, Canada.
