Tastes of the 38th Parallel, Episode 7: Göksun, Kahramanmaras Province, Turkey
This week: mountain cottages, giant heads, and we're gonna do some cooking!

Turkish Food Recipes:
1. Sumac Onions: 1 cup thinly sliced onions, 1 tbsp sumac, 1 tsp aleppo pepper, 1 tsp salt, juice of half a lemon, 1/4 cup fresh parsley

2. Lahmacun (aka Turkish Pizza):
I took a shortcut with the dough and used Trader Joe's Lavash as my crust.
Meat mixture: 1 lb beef, 1 grated onion, 2 cloves of garlic, chopped, 1 tsp tomato paste, 1 grated tomato, 1/2 cup chopped parsley, 1 tbsp plain yogurt, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp aleppo pepper, 1 tsp paprika, 2 tbsp water. Bake 3 minutes at 525F / 275C.

3. Dondurma without Salep (akaTurkish Ice Cream):
2 cups of milk (I used 2% -- It's what we had in the house)
1 tbsp whipping cream
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp mastic
1 tsp corn flour
1 tsp rose water

Combine all ingredients except the milk. Warm the milk on low to about 90F. Once it's warm, stir in your combined ingredients, stir constantly for 30 minutes on low. Put bowl in freezer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, stir ingredients vigorously for three minutes, then return to freezer. Repeat process 5-6 times (stir 3 minutes, freeze 30 minutes). Freeze for 5+ hours. Enjoy!

What to do when you want to make a Turkish travel vlog in 2021? You look for Turkey in your own backyard. Welcome to my Turkish food and travel show filmed on location in downtown Petaluma California with a few San Francsico highlights.

To be clear, I'm not really in Turkey. I live in Northern California, where the 38th parallel meets the Pacific Ocean. I wish I were traveling the world, though. So, I'm cooking my way along the 38th parallel, 500 miles at a time. Last week, we were in Kefalonia, Greece. Now, we are 500 miles East in Denizli, Turkey.

So here we are in Denizli, Turkey and we have got a lot to do!
