Get off the main road and see the true beauty of the Mornington Peninsula on its back beaches - we'll take you on an unforgettable adventure through Sorrento, Blairgowrie, Cape Shanck and Point Nepean National Park - coastlines, beaches, rock pools and blowholes that will steal your breath away. Quite literally.
The most beautiful Mornington Peninsula attractions are all free-of-charge and really are Mother Nature's finest works of art. Frankston, Australia - Driving Tour 4K
Frankston is a suburb of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia, in the local government area of the City of Frankston. It is located 41 km south-east of the Melbourne city centre, north of the Mornington Peninsula. Due to its geographic location, it is often referred to as the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula.
European settlement of Frankston began around the same time as the foundation of Melbourne in 1835—initially as an unofficial fishing village serving the early Melbourne township. Prior to its settlement, the Frankston area was primarily inhabited by the Mayone-bulluk clan from the Bunurong tribe of the Kulin nation. The official village of Frankston was established in 1854, with its first land sales taking place on 29 May. It has subsequently given its name to the broader Frankston local government area since 1893, and serves as both its activity and administrative centre.
Situated on the eastern shoreline of Port Phillip, Frankston has been a popular seaside destination of Melbourne since the 1880s. Frankston Beach is still one of the most frequented in Victoria, and is recognised as one of the cleanest in Australia. It was also home to one of the largest exhibitions of sand sculpting in the Southern Hemisphere.
Localities in the suburb (within its postcode 3199) include: Frankston Central Business District (CBD), Frankston East, Frankston Heights, Karingal, Long Island, Mount Erin and Olivers Hill. The independent suburb of Frankston South also shares the same postcode as Frankston. At the 2016 census the suburb of Frankston recorded a population of 36,097. The demonym for someone from Frankston is a Frankstonian.

Frankston City - Coastal Arts Discovery Trail - Frankston Boardwalk
Explore the beautiful Frankston Waterfront on the 3m wide, raised timber boardwalk designed to protect the vulnerable dune system. Walk the boardwalks and paths that stretch between Wells Street in the north and Oliver's Hill in the south along part of the 10 kilometres of pristine beach and coastal habitat, to discover why Frankston’s coastline is the envy of Melbourne at any time of year. There are delightful views of Port Phillip to be seen and there are many places to sit and relax along the way.
There is ample car parking, with toilets, a children's playground, picnic tables and barbecues. Fishing off the Frankston Pier is a popular activity. A boat ramp and trailer parking is available. The impressive Landmark Bridge is a focal point of this attractive precinct.
The Frankston Boardwalk is located near the Frankston Pier, at the end of Pier Promenade, which is a central place from which to base your activities.
This track could also be extended by crossing the Nepean Highway at Liddesdale Avenue to enter Sweetwater Creek Nature Reserve.
You can also take a walk along the 220 metre long Frankston Pier and reveal the 22 letter “secret message” on the pier flags.
