Flin Flon Manitoba - Mistik Creek - Early Fall Cinematic Aerial Views

It was a Saturday afternoon and the sun was out so my daughter and I (who I affectionately call my little munchkin) made the decision that we would go on an adventure. Since we had been in the house most of the day I wanted to get out of the house as it was a warm Septembers day. I decided that we would go to Mistik Creek which is right off Provincial Highway 10 North to Flin Flon Manitoba. The Mistik Creek highway access location was my first pick as it is close to my home and a location my daughter would love to explore with me.
Luckily the wind stayed calm and the sun was behind the clouds off and on as we were making our way to the location. The walk into the creek area is easy to get to and can sometimes be a mud bog of a location during a rainy summer season but this summer with it being very dry the trail was nice to walk on. When my daughter and I reached the banks of Mistik Creek the normal noise of the water flowing through the creek system was non-existent. I have never witnessed the water table on our local creeks and streams to be this low in all my years of living in this northern region of Manitoba. This is one of my go to spots to fly my drones and regardless of low water for this year Mistik Creek is and will always be one of my hidden gems.

What's a Flin Flon?! (Enjoying cottage life & mining towns in rugged northwestern Manitoba) 🇨🇦

From Dauphin, I detoured (far!) north on Manitoba Highway 10 through The Pas to Bakers Narrows, just south of the mining town of Flin Flon. I spent a night at the beautiful Bakers Narrows Lodge enjoying the cottage life, as I spent time canoeing, swimming, and barbecuing in the rugged Canadian wilderness.

From there, I explored the city of Flin Flon, which was one of the most unique towns in central Canada that I visited on this journey, with the small town nestled into the rocky terrain of the Canadian Shield that surrounds it.

From Flin Flon, I travelled west across a remote corner of northeastern Saskatchewan to the city of Prince Albert.

Flin Flon Manitoba - Big Island Lake - A Relaxing Summer Flight

Big Island Lake has been on my I want to make a video list for 2 years. Growing up in Cranberry Portage and traveling to Flin Flon Manitoba on provincial Highway 10 I always found the stretch of highway that ran parallel to the lake fascinating.

The high rock ridge that the road is built on looks down into the lake and that feeling of being way up above looking at the cabins and boats on the shoreline was always fun to see. it gave me that sense that I was traveling on a mountain road. I loved how as we traveled north to Flin Flon the Canadian Shield grew in size and the hills became to me mountains. :) As the years have gone by and the tree growth has increased the height of the tree canopy the lake has become a lot more hidden from view as one travels to Flin Flon. There are a couple spots that if you are looking closely you can see for a brief moment the lake view from the road.

So the night before I made plans to to explore Big Island Lake and I set off on an early morning adventure with my drone bag and all my necessary gear. The adventure was to begin! When I arrived at my destination Big Island Lake was very calm and the smokey haze from the forest fires did not fully envelope the lake. As I flew the RPAS the smoke did settle in and the sun went behind a mixture of hazy cloud and smoke.

Some interesting information from Wikipedia about Big Island Lake:
The lake has a north–south orientation and is accessible via Manitoba Highway 10. There is a seasonal cottage community on the south end, many cottages on the Big Island and scattered cottages elsewhere on the lake. The lake drains into Schist Lake via Big Island Creek, part of the Nelson River watershed. The lake is surrounded by Precambrian boreal forest, a mixed forest of coniferous and deciduous trees of the Canadian Shield. The area is a favorite location for hunters who can find large game such as moose, black bear, white tailed deer, woodland caribou, as well as many species of waterfowl. Fish species include northern pike, walleye, burbot, whitefish and lake trout.
Big Island's name comes from the large island which dominates the lake. The name was officially registered in 1999. Prior to that, the traditional Cree name of nearby Schist Lake (Manistikwan which means Devil's Head) was applied to Big Island Lake.

Flin Flon Northern Manitoba Canada Mistik Creek - A Cinematic Flight Up The Creek

As I was looking through my drone footage from one of my favourite spots known as Mistik Creek (Highway 10 access) I found myself not wanting to cut this footage up of my flight up the creek. I decided to create this standalone video of the flight up the creek ;and to edit the other pieces of footage I have into another video. I thank you for watching and have a great day!

The Mistik Creek Loop is a well-known remote wilderness canoe trip, 95 km (59 mi) in total length, which can be paddled in four to five days. The route is characterized by many short, unmarked portages around small sets of rapids. It begins and ends at Bakers Narrows and relies on longer portages between Lake Athapapuskow, Alberts Lake, and Naosap Lake.

Mistik Creek area is largely pristine and home to moose, black bear, lynx, wolf, and beaver. It is part of the range of the Naosap woodland caribou herd.[3] Bird species include raven, common loon, spruce grouse, bald eagle and hawk owl. The creek is not easily accessible, but there is some trapping, hunting, and recreational fishing activity.
