Second city of the Lot, Figeac is a city with an exceptional quality of life.
The richness and beauty of the heritage mark the identity of Figeac. Its historic center, shaped by the Middle Ages, houses a remarkable number of merchant houses with sculpted facades. These restored residences bear witness to the wealth of the city which traded with all of France and the major Mediterranean ports. Figeac and the birthplace of Jean-François Champollion, decipherer of hieroglyphics and founder of Egyptology.
Beautiful Figeac, France A Town of Art and History
Marine Steve and I did visit Figeac for several days 7 years ago and take a fast walk around this time. Town has a huge, friendly Tourist Office. Make them your first stop for maps, and information about the entire Lot Valley, what to see and what to do.
Legend has the origin of Figeac is due to Pepin the Short - love his name. Figeac is named a Town of Art and History; only awarded to places with an exceptionally rich architectural/historical heritage plus determination to conserve and enhance. Beautiful little town. (Apologize for the power washing noise in the background.)
FIGEAC, CAHORS, & ROCAMADOUR TOUR
Enjoy the amazing view of France. We explored, cahors, figeac, & rocamadour. It was the new year’s holiday.
The only negative I can say is , you will have difficulty in finding place to eat, as it was holidays, no restaurants open. Especially January 1.
We went to Rocamadour in 31st of December , there were only like 3-4 restaurants open, and there were many tourists. So there was a big queue as everyone wants to eat lunch. And the worst is the January 1 all those small towns or villages were really close. It looked like a dead town. #travel #France #explore

Figeac, Ville d'Art et d'Histoire
Cette ancienne cité, fondée sur les rives du Célé est depuis le Moyen-âge une ville commerçante dynamique, ouverte sur le monde. Les anciennes maisons de marchands forment un cadre urbain exceptionnel, qui reflète l'évolution de l'art au Moyen-âge. Des arcades des boutiques médiévales aux « soleilhos » (greniers ouverts) où l’on faisait sécher les fruits, on peut ainsi lire sur les façades de grès les évolutions de l’architecture. Cette petite ville rurale est devenue depuis la première moitié du XXème siècle une ville aux activités économiques de pointe.

10ème étape (30/06/2024) : Bouziès à Saint-Géry avec d'abord un détour par Saint-Cirq-La-Popie
À St-Géry, le camping municipal est surtout une aire de camping. Vous y trouverez des sanitaires dans un état correct, des bornes électriques (adaptateur requis) mais aucun autre service (je n'ai pas compris pourquoi il n'y avait même pas de poubelles). Dormir absolument sous moustiquaire.
Très bon restaurant, Le Miladiou, à 20 minutes de marche, dans le village, qui propose des plats originaux, très bons, et à un prix abordable. Le resto seul vaut le coup qu'on s'arrête ou fasse une pause à St-Géry.
