Riviera Maya Mexico Vacation Travel Guide

JUDUL

Riviera Maya , also known as the Mayan Riviera, is a tourism district following the coastal Highway 307 which parallels the Caribbean coastline of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located on the eastern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula. This district historically started at the city of Playa del Carmen and ended at the village of Tulum, although the towns of Puerto Morelos situated to the north and between Playa del Carmen and Cancun as well as the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto situated 40 kilometres (25 mi) to the south of Tulum are both currently being promoted as part of the Riviera Maya tourist corridor.
The most important places to visit in Riviera Maya are: Chichen Itza (the world famous Mayan ruins with thousands of years of history are one of the most visited sites in the world), Playa del Carmen, Tulum (outside of Cancun, a unique site. You can go for a swim in turquoise waters and visit the famous ruins of Mayan civilization), Xcaret, Xplor and many more.

In this week's episode the Travel Squad Podcast is taking you with us on our Tulum vacation where we spent a full week exploring the best cenotes in Tulum, walking amongst the ancient Mayan ruins in, eating endless tacos, ceviche, enjoying our cerveza's and margarita's while lounging on the beach, as well as exploring nearby Bacalar, known as the Maldives of Mexico

On this trip to Tulum Mexico we explored four different cenotes and three different ruin cites including the famous Chichen Itza. After spending a full week here, we’re able to give you the insider tips on the best things to do in Tulum that are worth the money, so you can plan and maximize your own Tulum trip!

Of all the many beach vacation spots in Mexico, we can highly recommend this one! Yes, it is a bit more expensive and a bit more crowded than other places in the country, but for good reason!

DO NOTE: This episode was recorded before the completion and opening of the new airport in Tulum. We do mention that you need to fly into Cancun, Mexico, as that was the closest airport at the time. As of December 2023, the Tulum airport if open for commercial flights and is an option to use that lands you closer to Tulum.

Tulum Mexico's Beaches are Actually HEAVEN 🏝️🇲🇽

Going to the beach in Tulum, Mexico made me feel like I was in heaven! This is Playa Las Palmas, which is a free/public beach you can visit in Tulum. The sand is perfect, there are rows of palm trees along the coast, and the water is the most beautiful blue I have ever seen. It is also ridiculously warm, being even warmer than the small pool at our Airbnb. What an absolute paradise!

Safest city in Mexico | 10 interesting facts about Merida, Yucatan

When I first posted about my Mexican trip on Couchsurfing.com, Caetano offered me a room in Merida. I kindly refused, telling him I was not planning to go to Merida. I am glad I Couchsurfed in Mexico's safest City. While learning about the history of Merida and Yucatan, I had the idea to share 10 interesting facts about this beautiful place so here it is...
