10 Greenest Towns in the UK

What are the greenest towns tin the United Kingdom? As many as 7 of the greenest towns in England are among the 10 greenest towns in the UK. This is not surprising at all. England is only being prevented from being equated with the entire United Kingdom. Thus, for records purposes and the sake of clarity, don’t be surprised to find towns and cities in England dominating listings of bests or worsts of towns and cities in the UK.
Other UK towns that slug it out with the towns in England on this list of the 10 greenest towns in Britain are Falkirk in Scotland, Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, and Bridgend also in Wales. It appears other regions of the United Kingdom have something to learn from England about nature and its preservation.
10. Barnsley, England
The first to be considered among the 10 greenest towns in the UK is Barnsley, a large market town and the fourth-largest settlement in South Yorkshire. This town doesn’t allow inappropriate development within its areas and the conditions in building permits are stricter. By doing this, it has been able to preserve its green space.
The River Dearne Valley and Worsbrough Mill Park and reservoir are just two examples of efforts that the town is making to be one of the greenest towns in both England and the entire United Kingdom. As of 2017, it has some 23,050 hectares of green belt which was first defined in 1979. Its rural landscape features encourage recreation and leisure interests.
9. Stafford, England
Stafford, a county town of Staffordshire in the West Midlands, lying about 24 kilometers north of Wolverhampton, 24 kilometers south of Stoke-on-Trent, and 39 kilometers northwest of Birmingham, is the next of the 10 greenest towns in the UK.
The nature reserves in Stafford include Astonfields Balancing Lakes, a local nature reserve of two lakes constructed for flood protection. There’s also Doxey Marshes, a wet grassland habitat about three kilometers northwest of the town center managed by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It’s 150 hectares of nature reserve and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It's home to wading birds and wildfowl. Kingsmead Marsh and Radford Meadows are also green spaces in this town.
8. Falkirk, Scotland
Falkirk, a large town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. The town which is 37.5 kilometers northwest of Edinburgh and 33 kilometers northeast of Glasgow is doing great in maintaining a wide range of greenspace.
It has an initiative called Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN). The unrivaled network aims at transforming Central Scotland into a place where the environment adds value to the economy and people’s lives are enriched by its quality. GSGN has no peer in Europe as a green space initiative that has been embedded in all relevant plans, policies, and strategies. The result of this is seen in the green revolution in the town.
7. Daventry, England
Yet another town on this list is Daventry, a town that is close to the border with Warwickshire with a population of 25,026 as of 2011. As the sixth-largest town in Northamptonshire, it’s one of the 10 greenest towns in the UK.

Places to see in ( Falkirk - UK )

Falkirk is a large town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, historically within the county of Stirlingshire. Falkirk lies in the Forth Valley, 23.3 miles north-west of Edinburgh and 20.5 miles north-east of Glasgow.

The town is at the junction of the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals, a location which proved key to its growth as a centre of heavy industry during the Industrial Revolution. In the 18th and 19th centuries Falkirk was at the centre of the iron and steel industry, underpinned by the Carron Company in nearby Carron. The company was responsible for making carronades for the Royal Navy and later manufactured pillar boxes. In the last 50 years heavy industry has waned, and the economy relies increasingly on retail and tourism. Despite this, Falkirk remains the home of many international companies like Alexander Dennis, the largest bus production company in the United Kingdom.

Falkirk has a long association with the publishing industry. The company now known as Johnston Press was established in the town in 1846. The company, now based in Edinburgh, produces the Falkirk Herald, the largest selling weekly newspaper in Scotland.

Attractions in and around Falkirk include the Falkirk Wheel, The Helix (home to The Kelpies), Callendar House and Park and remnants of the Antonine Wall. In a 2011 poll conducted by STV, it was voted as Scotland's most beautiful town, ahead of Perth and Stirling in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Falkirk is located in an area of undulating topography between the Slamannan Plateau and the upper reaches of the Firth of Forth. The area to the north of Falkirk is part of the floodplain of the River Carron. Two tributaries of the River Carron - the East Burn and the West Burn flow through the town and form part of its natural drainage system. Falkirk sits at between 50 metres (164 ft) and 125 metres (410 ft) above sea level.

The Falkirk Area occupies a central position in Scotland, with direct access from the key north-south and east-west motorway networks; the M9 from the north and east, and the M876 from the west. Falkirk has main rail and canal routes within easy reach from Edinburgh and Glasgow and is central to access to both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. Falkirk is well situated both for access by rail from England and for access to other parts of Scotland excluding Fife, which has no direct rail link to Falkirk other than morning and evening commuter services from Kirkcaldy to Glasgow. Falkirk has two railway stations; Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston. Falkirk High is on the main Glasgow-Edinburgh line, with connections to either city running on a 15-minute frequency. Falkirk Grahamston lies on the Edinburgh to Dunblane Line.

The Falkirk Wheel, the only rotary canal connector in the world, is located within Falkirk. The attraction was completed in 2002 and it connects the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Union Canal. In Falkirk High Street lies the Falkirk Steeple, the current building was built in 1814 and is protected as a category A listed building. A stylised image of the steeple appears on the crest of Falkirk Football Club. It is widely regarded as the centre point of the town.

( Falkirk - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Falkirk . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Falkirk - UK

Discover the Charm of Falkirk: A Journey Through Scotland's Hidden Gem

My ETSY:

The town of Falkirk stands in an essential position at the heart of central Scotland between Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling. This position has ensured its central role in Scottish history from the Roman period till today.
Over the centuries the town has given its name to two local battles. The First Battle of Falkirk occurred in 1298 between the armies of William Wallace and Edward I of England. The Second Battle of Falkirk took place on 1746 and is significant as the penultimate battle of the period known as the Jacobite Risings.

Falkirk is a beautiful town to visit, you can walk chunks of two canals, and explore its chill city centre atmosphere. Falkirk is the ideal place to visit with kids as its attractions have much to offer.

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. It reconnects the two canals for the first time since the 1930s

The Helix Park is The Home of The Kelpies - the largest equine sculpture in the world. Standing at 100ft tall and weighing more than 300 tonnes each, the magical Kelpies are an artificial wonder and a feat of engineering. The Kelpies represent the lineage of the heavy horse of Scottish industry and economy, pulling the wagons, & coal ships that shaped the geographical layout of Falkirk.

Visit Falkirk: Find Yourself Here at Night

Find yourself here at night! From the stunning lights of the Kelpies to the nightlife of the town centre, see what Falkirk and the surrounding area has to discover in the evenings ✨ 🎆 🌃 ✨

Visit to explore attractions and plan your visit.

Visiting the Kelpies at Night - FREE attraction in Falkirk, Scotland!

Come and join me on a visit to the Kelpies at night in Falkirk, Scotland.

If you’re looking for an awesome roadside pitstop in Scotland or day out from Edinburgh, you MUST visit The Kelpies!

These two mammoth horse head sculptures are part of The Helix, a community park for the public to enjoy while they are in the area.

The Kelpies are a legend that has been spoken about for centuries in the folklore of Scotland and are often seen as evil creatures and demons.

The name Kelpie comes from the Gaelic ‘cailpeach’ or ‘colpach’ which means heifer or colt. Pretty much any body of water in the country has a story that includes them, the most famous of these is Loch Ness.

The Kelpies statues are two whopping 100ft tall horse head statues located in The Helix on the Forth & Clyde canal in Falkirk.

They were designed and built by Andy Scott in 2013, a famous sculptor from Glasgow. Originally, he drew the design in Amsterdam, eight years before they were made.

A common question is, do the Kelpies light up at night? The good news, they do every night! As soon as the sun goes down in the evening, the Kelpies light up in all different colours of the rainbow.

The Kelpies are FREE to visit and open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

There is a paid car park at the Helix park you can use until 10pm that costs £2 or there is a free car park a little further away that’s open 24 hours a day.

For more information about The Kelpies, see my blog post -
