Places to see in ( Esher - UK )

Esher is a town in Surrey, England, to the east of the River Mole. Esher is an outlying suburb of London, and with Esher Commons at its southern end, the town marks one limit of the Greater London Built-Up Area. Esher has a linear commercial high street and is otherwise suburban in density, with varying elevations, few high rise buildings and very short sections of dual carriageway within the ward itself. Esher covers a large area, between 13 and 15.4 miles southwest of Charing Cross.[n 2] In the south it is bounded by the A3 Portsmouth Road which is of urban motorway standard and buffered by the Esher Commons.

Esher is bisected by the A307, historically the Portsmouth Road, which for approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) forms its high street. Esher railway station (served by the South West Main Line) connects the town to London Waterloo. Sandown Park Racecourse is in the town near the station.

In the south, Claremont Landscape Garden owned and managed by the National Trust, once belonged, as their British home, to Princess Charlotte and her husband Leopold I of Belgium. Accordingly, the town was selected to have a fountain by Queen Victoria and has an adjacent Diamond Jubilee column embossed with a relief of the monarch and topped by a statue of Britannia. Unite, the union, trains representatives at its Esher Place centre, and the town has the offices of Elmbridge Borough Council in its high street.

Esher lay within the Saxon feudal division of Elmbridge hundred.
Esher appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Aissela and Aissele, where it is held partly by the Abbey of the Cross in Normandy; partly by William de Waterville; partly by Reginald; partly by Hugh do Port; and partly by Odard Balistarius (probably a crossbowman).

By 1908, Esher contained the fashionable residences of several important figures including Lady Emma Talbot; Sir Robert Hawthorn Collins, the Duchess of Albany and Sir Edgar Vincent, K.C.M.G. who was later created 1st Viscount D'Abernon.
George Harrison of the Beatles had a house (called Kinfauns) in Esher, during the 1960s. The other Beatles were regular visitors to the house, and Harrison's primitive home recording studio.

Esher has office buildings in the High Street and its continuation, Portsmouth Road, which has a cluster of entertainment and dining venues. Esher has a local (roughly county-level) farmers market held on one Saturday every month, moving forward one week each month. Vendors sell locally sourced produce and two riverside farms on the edge of town, one with large shop and grow-your-own are open to the public. A light smattering of small businesses, particularly in construction and landscaping pervades the town. A large hospice in Esher serves North Surrey, with field staff providing relief to cancer patients. Otherwise the town's residents do business or create products from home or elsewhere, such as in the M4 corridor and the City of London.

A Walk Down Esher High Street to Sandown Racecourse, Surrey, UK

Another video in the High Street series this one is a viewer request. We're in Esher, Surrey having a walk along the lovely little High Street to have a look at the shops and statues along the way. After that we'll continue a little off the end of the High Street to find Sandown Park Racecourse where we'll finish the video for today. I'll plan a walk around Sandown Park Racecourse another day but it's not as open as Epsom Down Racecourse so I need to look into that more before giving it a go.

Places to see in ( Surbiton - UK )

Places to see in ( Surbiton - UK )

Surbiton is a suburban area of south-west London within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Surbiton is situated next to the River Thames, 11.0 miles south west of central London. urbiton was formerly within the County of Surrey, but became part of Greater London in 1965 following the London Government Act 1963, together with many areas including neighbouring Kingston and Richmond. Surbiton possesses a mixture of Art-Deco courts, more recent residential blocks and grand 19th century townhouses blending into a sea of semi-detached 20th century housing estates.

Surbiton railway station opened in 1838, and was originally named Kingston-upon-Railway. It was only renamed Surbiton to distinguish it from the new Kingston railway station on the Shepperton branch line, which opened on 1 January 1869. The present station has an art deco façade. As a result, Kingston is now on a branch line, whereas passengers from Surbiton (smaller in comparison) can reach London Waterloo in about 15 minutes on a fast direct service; as well as places further afield, including Portsmouth and Southampton. It was once home to Surbiton Studios which were owned by Stoll Pictures, before the company shifted its main production to Cricklewood Studios.

Surbiton is served by a number of regular bus services. London Buses routes 71, 281, 406, 418, 465, K1, K2, K3 and K4 and Surrey Bus Routes 514 and 515 all serve the area. Surbiton railway station provides rail links with London (Waterloo), Surrey and Hampshire.

Surbiton station features in the 2009 film version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Blood Prince, with actors Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter and Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore. Surbiton is popularly remembered as an icon of suburbia in such British television programmes as The Good Life.

( Surbiton - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Surbiton . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Surbiton - UK

Places to see in ( Thames Ditton - UK )

Places to see in ( Thames Ditton - UK )

Thames Ditton is a suburban village by and on the River Thames, in the Elmbridge borough of Surrey, England. It has a large inhabited island in the river but is otherwise on the southern bank, its centre located 12.2 miles (19.6 km) southwest of Charing Cross in central London, and is a short distance outside the Greater London area. Its clustered village centre and shopping area on a winding High Street is surrounded by housing, schools and sports areas. Its riverside is situated opposite the Thames Path and Hampton Court Palace Gardens and golf course in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Its most commercial area is spread throughout its conservation area and contains restaurants, cafés, shops and businesses. The village is within the Greater London Urban Area as defined by the Office for National Statistics.

Its railway station, one of two on the Hampton Court Branch Line, is 0.31 miles (500 m) from the riverside end of the village centre and the village of Weston Green that hived off from it in 1939. The two other breakaway villages are Claygate and Hinchley Wood and today the only named sub-locality or neighbourhood irrefutably in the village is Giggs Hill, on the road that used to be the main Portsmouth Road from London, but is now a local route, bypassed by long-haul traffic by the A3 to the south and east of Claygate.

Thames Ditton joins Long Ditton and Weston Green in occupying the land between Surbiton, Esher and East Molesey. Although reduced to less than one square mile (2.6 km2), it formerly covered more than four square miles (10 km2).

Thames Ditton has a railway link to London Waterloo, serving the large commuter population, local workforce and Esher college student population. Boyle Farm was the earlier name of the Home of Compassion, a wide range mansion care home by the River Thames formerly set among fields rather than private houses.

Thames Ditton railway station is on the line from London Waterloo to Hampton Court, and Hampton Court railway station is within a ten-minute walk. Rail services are provided by South West Trains. Journey time to London Waterloo is 33 minutes (it is also possible to connect with faster trains at Surbiton railway station).

From Thames Ditton, it is approximately five minutes by road to the A3 (eastbound) or ten minutes to A3 (both ways). It is some 15 minutes to the M3 and M25 and some 35 minutes to Heathrow – these times can be severely affected by racing at Kempton Park Racecourse and/or Sandown Park.

( Thames Ditton - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Thames Ditton . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Thames Ditton - UK
