Solo in Guatemala's Most Violent Cartel Hood! (Zone-18)🇬🇹
Guatemala City is divided into different zones. The biggest and most violent is Zone 18. It is fully controlled by gang members (Mara 18) and every local I asked warned me not to visit this place at all. Not even its small central market.
I fully respect their advice which is for my own good, but I am very curious to see with my own eyes what this Hood Cartel looks like and most importantly what the locals there have to say about the most dangerous place in Guatemala City.
Let's see.....

#ViajandoxGaute @paseoguatemala @inguatoficial

Guatemala - Antiqua, Atitlan, Acatenango & Guatemala City | Travel video | GoPro 10 & DJI Mini 2
I am very glad that I visited Guatemala on my way. This state is really interesting. I personally was surprised right after crossing the border between Mexico and El Salvador.
The best experience was the ascent to the volcano Acatenango. This volcano is 3,976 m long. The experience is all the more beautiful when Fuego volcano erupts opposite. Antiqua is definitely worth a visit. I can also recommend Lake Atitlán.
CZ:
Mohu doporučit i jezero Atitlán.

Iztapa , or Puerto de Iztapa, is a municipality in the Escuintla department of Guatemala. It is located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by Michatoya and Maria Linda Rivers, and also by the Canal de Chiquimulilla. Its population is about 15,000 people.
Iztapa is a small port town along Guatemala’s Pacific coast that’s well known for sailfishing. The fishing here truly is incredible—it’s common to haul in 15-20 Pacific sailfish each day. The surfing is good too, and there isn’t much competition for waves. Despite its somewhat dilapidated appearance, Iztapa has historic significance. As Guatemala’s original port, it was used by Spanish conqueror Pedro de Alvarado to build and harbor the boats that he would eventually sail to Peru.
The fishing at Iztapa has contributed to Guatemala being nicknamed the Sailfish Capital of the World. The records here are indeed impressive—the world records for conventional and fly-fishing single-day catches (75 and 23, respectively) were both set here. On average you can expect to catch between 15-25 Pacific sailfish each day.
Why all the fish? Ocean currents from El Salvador and Mexico mix here to create an eddy rich in the kinds of pelagic fish (like herring and mackerel) that sailfish and marlin eat. There are also large numbers of yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and dorado. The fishing is generally good year-round.
The black-sand beach at Iztapa is clean and wide and you’ll likely have the whole place to yourself. The surf is fairly consistent and is usually right-handers. One thing is for sure – you won’t have to fight for waves.
Iztapa
Buses from Puerto San Jose often continue to Iztapa, one of Guatemala's most scenic dark sand beaches..
Iztapa served as Guatemala's original port and, like Puerto San Jose, is now a base for some of the world's best sail fishing..
From Iztapa, you can surf, go whale-watching or take a fishing charter out to sea. For relaxing on the beach, it's ideal to take a boat across the river to a sandbar where you can watch the waves and enjoy a meal and a cold one at one of the little outdoor restaurants. .

Chapin Autosafari is an animal park near Escuintla, Guatemala. There are several zones in the park, including: Travel reserve with places for lions, giraffes, hippos and other animals. Walk-through Zoo Recreation area with restaurant, lagoon boat rides and swimming pool
The idea of creating a fauna reserve was conceived by Mr. Roberto Berger Lehnhoff and Mr. Ricardo Mata in 1975, in order to conserve and reproduce endangered species of Guatemalan fauna.
The first animals to arrive at the reserve were 15 white-tailed deer donated by Mr. Rafael Herrera. Then came the first pair of hippos, as well as more acquisitions of local and international wild animals, some donated by various people.
After 3 years of studies and planning, the path of the route began, removing 75 centimeters of organic matter and adding ballast, which has remained in excellent condition to date. Then the ranchón was built, made by Mr. Horacio García Aguirre, using Teak wood, planted in 1945 by Roberto Berger. From there the rest of the infrastructure of the zoo was built, and also the offices, ticket offices, soft drink sales and swimming pools were built. During the two years that construction lasted, the acquisition of animals continued, while the entire park was reforested with Mahogany, Conacaste, Matilisguate, and Cedro trees, as well as various croto, carnation, and bamboo plants, among others; finally opening its doors to the public on January 26, 1980.
In 1994, a progressive program for the renovation of cages and enclosures began, in which the need for cages is reduced and the animals now have a more natural, open environment conditioned for their specific needs. To date, the remodeling continues to better show the animals and that they have open spaces to live.
Endangered Guatemalan species such as white-tailed deer, huitzizil deer, coche de monte, wild boar, jaguars, spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, scarlet and blue macaws, parrots, and parakeets have been successfully reproduced.
In addition, the collection of species from other continents is maintained, to collaborate worldwide with their reproduction, and at the same time serve to make them known to visitors to the reserve.
Visitors can admire African fauna such as lions, giraffes, ostriches, vervet monkeys and others. You can also see rheas or rheas, as well as Nilgai antelopes, blackbuck and chital deer native to Asia. Most of these species have bred very successfully in the reserve, and we continue the effort to maintain a healthy and abundant collection.
