10 Best Places to Live in Northern Ireland

What are the best cities to live in Northern Ireland? We don’t often hear about Northern Ireland as much as we do the three other provinces because it’s the least discussed. If the 4 nations making the kingdom are ranked in order of popularity, we could go like England, Scotland, and, Wales. That’s why many people don’t have an idea of what living in Northern Ireland, the fourth province of the UK is. This time, we want to discuss the 10 best places to live in Northern Ireland.
This will prove that the part of Ireland that remained in the UK since 1921 is not faring badly at all. Please enjoy the discussion about the best places to live in Northern Ireland.
10. Newtownards
Newtownards is a town, townland, and civil parish in County Down. It’s not far from Strangford Lough, another one of the best places to live in Northern Ireland that would be discussed later. Newtownards is at the northernmost tip of Strangford Lough. It is also 10 miles east of Belfast on the Ards Peninsula.
When Newtownards hit the headline on July 17, 2021, it was about the townland of Ballywatticock toward Mount Stewart, where temperature peaked 31.2 °C at 15:40. Besides that, it has a very low crime rate. The town has a lot of beautiful spots that can add colors to the quality of life. Places such as Movilla Abbey, Somme Heritage Center, and Mount Stewart attract people to this town. The town’s residents are also entertained by sporting activities such as rugby, cricket, football, and motor racing. It is one of the best places to live in Northern Ireland.
9. Fermanagh
Ireland's Lakeland County of Fermanagh is the next of the 10 best places to live in Northern Ireland. It’s one of the six counties of the region, bordering the Republic. The county is renowned for its boating and fishing. Once a legendary dry plain, Fermanagh was believed to have magic well at its center with widely held tales of two lovers. Of course, the story around it makes the county. The lakes of Lough Erne stretching through 50 miles over the county were believed to result from bubbles from the water.
If you live in Fermanagh, you’ll be living in the roots of some famous people, including writer Rudyard Kipling and former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Ulysses Grant. Enniskillen, which we shall talk about later, is the county town of Fermanagh. You don’t generally hear about crime here and the cozy place has enough amenities.
8. Ballycastle
Let’s next consider Ballycastle, a small seaside town in County Antrim. Deriving its name from the Irish expression “Baile an Chaistil,” the “town of the castle” is on the north-easternmost coastal tip of the region of the United Kingdom. Its harbor plays host to the ferry to Rathlin Island quite visible from the coast.
Anyone living in Northern Ireland and desires a harbor town to live near the coast should consider living in Ballycastle. If you’ve ever heard anything about the best places to live in Northern Ireland, you’ll realize that Ballycastle is frequently mentioned in such lists. According to The Sunday Times, this seaside town is one of five places in Northern Ireland considered the best places to live in Britain. The publication crowns it as actually the best place to live in the province. It receives accolades for offering a better quality of life to the majority of the residents in areas of education, health, crime control, and house prices.

Anyone in Enniskillen should try this place

Ah, Enniskillen. A peaceful town, but quite lively for Fermanagh Show in August. And fabulous place for tea and cake at Frou Frou, with good coffee capers at Mad Hatters Cafe; and wonderful spiritual stuff on Devenish Island.

MAGUIRES CASTLE, ENNISKILLEN CASTLE AND ENNISKILLEN TOWN

Enniskillen Castle / Maguire's castle is situated in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It was originally built in the 16th century and now contains the Fermanagh County Museum and a museum for the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

History
Hugh Maguire built a castle at Enniskillen in 1428. It was besieged by Captain John Dowdall's troops at the start of 1594 and fell on 2 February after a short siege, when the occupants were massacred after they surrendered. The castle was again under siege later that year but was relieved. The fortress finally fell to the Irish in 1595. The castle remained in Irish hands until it fell to the crown's Irish ally, Niall Garve O'Donnell in the summer of 1602. In 1607 Captain William Cole was given command of the castle. Cole remodelled and refurbished the castle adding the riverside tower at the south, known as the Watergate, in 1609. He purchased the castle outright in 1623. It was unsuccessfully besieged by Rory Maguire during the Irish Rebellion of 1641, during which it sheltered Protestant settlers.

The castle was remodelled as Castle Barracks as part of the response to a threat of a French invasion in 1796. Castle Barracks became the home of the 27th Regiment of Foot in 1853. The regiment moved to purpose-built facilities at St Lucia Barracks, Omagh in 1875 and evolved, after amalgamation, to become the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1881.

Walking the length of ENNISKILLEN Ireland's only Island town

Regarding the town clock!
Poster Carrick Kevin tells me-The soldier with the sword is an Inniskilling Dragoon Guard and the other is a Royal Inniskilling Fusilier. Sorry about my mistake!

We're down at the fabulous Manor House Hotel for a wee break. Here we dander along Enniskillen's main street taking in the interesting sights and sounds.
Enniskillen (/ˌɛnᵻsˈkɪlən/, from Irish Inis Ceithleann, meaning Ceithlenn's island is a town and civil parish in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is located almost exactly in the centre of the county between the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne. It had a population of 13,599 in the 2001 Census. It is the seat of local government for Fermanagh District Council, and is also the county town of Fermanagh as well as its largest town.
The town's name comes from the Irish: Inis Ceithleann. This refers to Cethlenn, a figure in Irish mythology who may have been a goddess. Local legend has it that Ceithlenn was wounded in battle by an arrow and attempted to swim across the river Erne, which surrounds the island, but she never reached the other side so the island was named in reference to her. It has been anglicised many ways over the centuries — Iniskellen, Iniskellin, Iniskillin, Iniskillen, Inishkellen, Inishkellin, Inishkillin, Inishkillen, and so on.
The town's oldest building is the Maguire's stone castle, built by Hugh the Hospitable who died in 1428 An earthwork, the Skonce on the lough shore, may be the remains of an earlier motte.
ps As usual I got it wrong about the two soldiers on the clock tower. One is an Inniskilling fusilier with his musket and the other who I called a lancer is an Inniskilling dragoon guard (cavalry )!

ENNISKILLEN MY HOME TOWN IN FERMANAGH IRELAND

A video in my home town Enniskillen! Enniskillen is the largest town in County Fermanagh in the north of Ireland. County Fermanagh is one of the thirty-two counties of Ireland, one of the six counties of Northern Ireland and one of the nine counties of Ulster, for those that don't know Ulster is comprised of 9 counties Derry, Antrim, Down, Tyrone, Armagh, Fermanagh, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, Fermanagh is covered by lakes and waterways of all shapes and sizes. As you can imagine, this makes my home County Fermanagh a paradise for boating, kayaking, canoeing and the wildlife that finds a home in this beautiful county. Castle Coole is one of the greatest neo-classical country houses in Ireland. Built to impress in the 1790s by the first Earl of Belmore, no expense was spared on the palace in the park which was designed to outdo the home of his brother in law, the Earl of Enniskillen, at nearby Florence Court. Various craftsmen were employed from across Ireland and Britain to decorate the interior of the house, from the fine plasterwork to the marble fireplaces and the scagliola columns. Within the lavish interiors is a State Bedroom created for an expected royal visit of King George IV which never came.
