EL TRIUNFO, Baja California, Mexico - Once a sleepy town is getting popular

At one point, El Triunfo was the largest town in Baja California Sur, with a population of over 10,000 people. After gold mine was closed in 1926 the town eventually became a shadow of its glory days. Now, once a sleepy town is becoming a key tourist attraction. Less than two hours from Los Cabos, and about 45 minutes from both La Paz and Todos Santos.

#BajaCaliforniaSur #BajaSur #BCS

Top 10 Things To Do In Todos Santos Mexico | Baja California Sur

Todos Santos is a small coastal town on the Pacific coast, about an hour drive north of Cabo San Lucas or La Paz. It’s charming small town with laidback vibes and feels a world away. The population is 7,185 inhabitants. Todos Santos is located near the Tropic of Cancer in the municipality of La Paz.
Here you will enjoy the old-fashioned old town, boutique hotels, incredible food and beautiful beaches. Todos Santos was established in 1723 when the Jesuits established a Mission in the area. The people that settled here took advantage of the area’s fertile soil, and the area eventually became a major sugar cane producer. In the 1950s there was a drought that caused the closure of several sugar cane factories. Todos Santos was off the grid until 1984, when the road between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos was paved. Todos Santos became a popular place for tourists who were drawn to the quiet lifestyle of a traditional Mexican village. In 2006 Todos Santos was designated as a Pueblo Mágico for its historical relevance, cultural riches and natural beauty.

Bringing Jungle back to Mexico (Silvopastoral systems in Chiapas)

During my visit to Chiapas Mexico, I got into contact with an organization called FONCET (Fondo de Conservació El Triunfo A.C.) who were busy with a pilot program to rewild the cattle farms by means of silvopastoral systems. With this system in place, they want to introduce the production of cacao to the cattle farmers. This system would bring back biodiversity to the agricultural frontier in Chiapas, which once existed of a lot more dense jungle and forest areas. For this video, I went on a 2-day research trip with them to see how this would work.

Exploring Baja California Mexico: El Triunfo

El Triunfo is the cutest little old mining town between La Paz and San Jose del Cabo in Baja California Sur. Also, not far from Todos Santos or Los Barriles. We stopped for a few hours and realized that we need to return to do more exploring.

Check out the Music Museum which features occasional concerts. Thre's also afternoon tea on the weekends... in the afternoon.

The mine closed in 1926, and the town dwindled, but it's coming back as a tourist destination.

If you're looking for a quaint Mexican town to spend a few hours in, El Triunfo is perfect. And if you've retired in Mexico, maybe spend a few extra hours exploring.

EL TRIUNFO: The surprising rebirth of a century-old Mexican GHOST TOWN (Full Tour)

The abandoned ghost town of El Triunfo was once the largest and most bustling silver and gold mining town in Baja California Sur, Mexico! In this video, I visit the century-old Mexican ghost town to witness its surprising rebirth. Located roughly in the middle of the peninsula west of the city of La Paz, this beautiful and enchanting village offers some of the richest history, museums, and traditional restaurants in the region. Wandering what's left of its ruins is an evocative experience, with towering chimneys, historic miners' graveyards, and incredible mountain vistas in every direction. This historic village is also home to two of the state's premier museums: the excellent Muvaca (Museo del Vaquero de las Californias) - Mexico's cowboy museum - and the Museo Ruta de Plata (silver mining museum), both of which deserve your visit.

El Triunfo is also home to plenty of cozy boutique accommodations and gourmet restaurants, having undergone somewhat of a tourism renaissance in recent years. At cozy Las Alforjas, I was treated to a traditional ranchero breakfast consisting of sustainably farmed totoaba fish burritos, and later in the day I discovered the award-winning paella at Bar El Minero (washed down with an ice cold sangria!).

El Triunfo is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal cities, and makes an excellent day trip from either La Paz or Los Cabos.

Baja's MOST FASCINATING (and expensive?) Pueblo Historico

This week we went to one of the most interesting historical towns in Baja. Once a bustling mining town with over 10,000 residents, it's now a little pueblo with less than 350 people in it. It's having a revival, and it may all be thanks to a sandwich. Albeit a very expensive sandwich.

Discover El Triunfo: A Tiny, Beautiful Historical Silver & Gold Mining Town in Baja Sur, Mexico

El Triunfo is a tiny, beautiful historical town with a rich mining history. Established in the late 1700s, the first mine was a silver and gold mine. Today, you can still see the remnants of those days, including the abandoned mine, but also the 47-meter-high smokestack built in 1890, and the old English cemetery (Panteon Ingles). The downtown area is also worth visiting because it has been restored and converted into restaurants, museums, boutiques, and more.

Day trip Los Barriles, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Today we ride to a nearby town, 1.5 hours drive, Los Barriles, a sleepy coastal village to have lunch on the beach. We pass through the mining village El Triunfo.
After our visit to Los Barriles, we drive up the coast, to an even smaller village, close to Los Pescadores. We discover a strange rock formation.

ABOUT ME:

Jeanette Slagt, aka JC from Holland, Born in 1961 in the Netherland is probably one of the oldest female digital nomads that uses a motorcycle for her travels. Jeanette sold everything at the age of 52 because she became unemployed and decided there is more to life than being endlessly searching for a job and hanging around waiting for life to happen. She turned her life around and became a nomad.
By doing so she changed the perspective on unemployment and retirement.
She traveled through the Philippines (2015-2019) back to Europa (2019) onwards to Mexico (2019- current) where she and her son Arnan are on this epic motorcycle road trip from Cancun, Quintana Roo to La Paz in Baja California Sur.
