🔎 VIDEO EXCERPT 🔎
The Living Cost Index is a measure of how expensive it is to live in a particular place.
The US has a cost of living index of 73, so if a country has an index of, for example, 36.5, it means that the cost of living there is on average only half of the cost of living in the US.
Now that you know all the criteria, time to start our top 8!
In the 8th place is El Salvador.
Until a few years ago El Salvador was a VERY dangerous place. In fact, the most dangerous in the world. In the last few years, it went through a dramatic transformation that turned it into the SAFEST country in the entire continent.
You heard it right.
El Salvador today has a homicide rate of only 2.4 in 2023. This is the same homicide rate of the European continent. To put it into perspective, the homicide rate of the US is 6.4.
The cost of living index there is also very low, only 29.6, meaning that on average life costs less than half of what you would pay in the US.
Despite recent improvements, the Human Development Index (HDI) in El Salvador is still quite low, only 0.674, so maybe that is why it is below the other countries in this list.
In 7th place in Costa Rica
With an HDI of 0.81, Costa Rica has a development level similar to Thailand or the Bahamas.
If you watched our other videos, probably you noticed that Costa Rica figures among the best on a lot of lists.
It was in our ranking of the best countries to retire to and is also one of the best Spanish-speaking countries to visit. The link to both of these videos I will put in the comment section.

8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]
The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.
After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

Best AirBnb host Cap Cana Dominican Republic Gabriela
Best AirBnb host Cap Cana Dominican Republic, Gabriela
The first and main lesson that I have learned with my short but intense relationship with Air Bnb, is that your #1 factor in the enjoyment of your stay will be the quality of the Host. With Air Bnb, your host is the person owning, or managing the property. Hosts run the gamut from under capitalized owners or managers, barely maintaining the facade of running a bed and breakfast or property rental business to outstanding hosts more akin to wealthy relatives making sure you have a great stay in their property. I unfortunately have encountered both and there is nothing in common between the two. I have had the great privilege of meeting the best Air BnB of Cap Cana. Not only is she the best host of Cap Cana, she is the best host of Punta Cana in general. Her attentiveness was so superb, that I would be confident in saying she deserves the title of best Air Bnb host of all of the Dominican Republic. Heck, I might as well throw it all in, she is the best Air Bnb host of the Caribbean. From all of the preparations for the trip before it started to responding back to my texts or emails within minutes, I felt like she was sitting there, just waiting for my communication so she could assist. The beginning of any stay is the most important time for hosts to be able to respond quickly because everything is new for the trip and typically that is when there are the most rapid fire questions from the guest for the host. Gabriela joined in 2019 Gaby lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She loves traveling and meeting new people (wishing she could do it more often!). She usually is at home binge watching shows on Netflix, playing with her dog Chester, or at the gym. She started hosting almost 2 years ago and what she enjoys the most is making people’s vacation dreams a reality! She Lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Speaks English, Español, Français

Expats Living in Dominican Republic Enjoying Life #expats #expatlife
Mundo Iorio talking to Expats living in Dominican Republic and Lovin ever minute of it.
Americans, known as Expats are moving to the Dominican Republic for a variety of reasons. Some of the common factors that have attracted individuals and families to relocate to the Dominican Republic include:
Cost of Living: The Dominican Republic can offer a lower cost of living compared to many Western countries. This can be especially appealing for retirees or those looking to stretch their budget.
Climate and Environment: The country boasts a tropical climate with beautiful beaches, lush landscapes, and a generally pleasant weather throughout the year. This can be a major draw for people seeking a more relaxed and comfortable lifestyle.
Tourism and Recreation: The Dominican Republic is a popular tourist destination, offering a range of recreational activities such as water sports, golf, and eco-tourism. Some individuals may choose to move there to take advantage of these opportunities.
Retirement: The country's retirement incentive program, known as the Pensionado Law, offers tax breaks and other benefits to retirees who meet certain criteria, making it an attractive destination for retirees.
Business and Investment: Some entrepreneurs and investors are attracted to the Dominican Republic's business-friendly environment and opportunities in sectors like tourism, real estate, and agriculture.
Cultural and Language Ties: The Dominican Republic shares cultural ties with several countries, including Spain and other Latin American nations. The Spanish language and cultural familiarity can be a motivating factor for some individuals to relocate.
Healthcare: The Dominican Republic has been improving its healthcare infrastructure, and some people may be drawn to the country for affordable healthcare options, including medical procedures and treatments.
Ease of Residency: The country offers relatively straightforward procedures for obtaining residency, especially for retirees or those with income from abroad.

Living abroad (outside of the US) gives me a perspective that most Americans do not have.
The first time it kind of “hit me” was when I was saying goodbye to my new Peruvian friends after studying abroad my fall semester of 2015 in Lima. They hugged me and said “come back and visit soon!” And out of instinct I said the same thing back. Only to deduce from the pause that followed that that wasn’t a possibility for them.
It’s so easy for us to travel sure, but that’s only part of the story. Most Americans don’t understand that people literally put their LIVES on the line and sacrifice soo much just to get this document. Most don’t understand that for many it’s a push factor not a pull factor to go to the US. Most don’t understand the “unreal” reality and freedoms that come with having these things (American citizenship and a US passport).
I’m forever grateful every time I travel for the privileges that I’m afforded by being an American citizen, and really, this cannot be measured/felt until you leave the States and travel to places like Latin America. ✈️
