- Avila Beach set along the ocean and stretching to nearby hills and wine estates. The promenade hosts galleries and boutiques to suit most any aesthetic and there's surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding or fishing off the pier.
- San Simeon is home to the world famous Hearst Castle which hosted celebrities in its heyday. Old San Simeon offers a scenic pier, wine tasting room and more.
- Cambria's history has been painstakingly preserved by volunteers and includes a walking tour. The Moonstone Beach Boardwalk offers another scenic walk, taking in the sea and wildlife.
- Los Osos is home to the majestic Montaña de Oro State Park with hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Take in the vistas of Morro Rock and explore the Elfin Forest.

There are lots of great things to see and do in San Luis Obispo, so here are five travel recommendations for your next trip.

Hidden Gems of Highway 1
Just four miles inland from coastal Highway 1 sit the Edna and Arroyo Grande Valleys. These little know stops along the Highway 1 Discovery Route offer everything from adventure to zen.
Outdoor enthusiasts can hike, mountain bike and horseback ride to scenic vistas. They'll also find fresh water activities at Lopez Lake Recreation Area, which includes Mustang Water Park and Vista Lago Adventure Park, where sky-high obstacle courses of varying degrees of difficulty, a free fall platform, and three zip lines totaling over 1,800 feet in length!
Looking for something a little more relaxing? The region is also home to more than 30 notable wineries. Specialties in the region include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and aromatic white varieties like Albariño, all of which are known for exceptional balance due to coastal growing conditions. And yes, some offer yoga in the vines.
