Episode 3 Earls Barton to Market Harborough

Earls Barton is a large village of around 5000 people in Northamptonshire, England. This video is a cross country drive from Earls Barton to Market Harborough in Leicestershire shot on 21st December 2021, starting at around 2pm.

Along the way, the journey takes in Mears Ashby, Sywell, Holcot, Pitsford Causeway, Brixworth, Maidwell, Klisworth and Great Oxenby before arriving in Market Harborough.

Now.... the camera glitched. We tried to edit it out, but there still may be some meh!

Also, experimenting with a music background and some new on-screen graphics.

Earls Barton Carnival Parade 2022

After a couple of years waiting, the rain doesn't put the dampener on the return of the Northamptonshire village parade. Smiles all around, especially with the Zion Christian Church Brass Band performing their routine. For various reasons, many UK carnivals are still not taking place during 2022. It was great to see that all the hard work that went into this, despite the weather, made it a great day. Saturday June 18th 2022.

Places to see in ( Easingwold - UK )

Places to see in ( Easingwold - UK )

Easingwold is a small market town, electoral ward and a civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it had a population of 4,233 at the 2001 census, increasing to 4,627 at the Census 2011. It is located about 12 miles (19 km) north of York, at the foot of the Howardian Hills. It is the focal point for the numerous villages in the area for public services and economic activity.

The name of Easingwold is Anglo Saxon in origin, with wold being a derivation of wald meaning forest, and the former part being a Saxon family name, possibly Esa. King John had a hunting lodge there and the royal Forest of Galtres once surrounded the area. Under the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 a Poor law union was established in Easingwold in 1837. The town had a workhouse built in 1756 on Oulston Road.

There are 51 Grade II listed buildings in Easingwold, including five mileposts and the telephone kiosk in Back Lane. The areas of Long Street; the Parish Church and Church Hill; Uppleby and the market place are all within the Easingwold Conservation Area. in 1908 Lieutenant-General Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement, visited Easingwold as commander of the Northumbrian division of the newly formed Territorial Force. Easingwold's Scout Group was founded two years later and is now the longest serving youth movement in the area.

The town was bypassed by the A19 in November 1994. The town is the focal point for many nearby villages and the nearest larger settlements are York 12 miles (19 km) to the south; Boroughbridge 8 miles (13 km) to the west; Thirsk 10 miles (16 km) to the northwest and Malton 16 miles (26 km) to the east. The highest point in the town is at the town's edge on the Oulston Road at 200 feet (60 m).

There are a number of local retail businesses in the town. The number of public houses has significantly reduced since the 19th century, when there were also a number of local brew houses, the names of which can still be seen on local houses. Easingwold is served by to nearby villages, towns and the city of York. This includes services run by the local coach business, Stephenson's of Easingwold. The Cabinet Office have their Emergency Planning College at the Hawkhills, Easingwold.

EASINGWOLD Street Walk (10th July 2020) including Friday's Market Day North Yorkshire

HD first-person perspective walking tour through a lovely part of market town of Easingwold in North Yorkshire, England on Market Day as lockdown is further eased allowing some non-essential shops to reopen

Easingwold is located about 12 miles up the A19 north of York, with around 4000 residents. There are 51 Grade II listed buildings in Easingwold, including five mileposts and the telephone kiosk in Back Lane. The town is mentioned in the Doomsday Book and granted it's market charter in 1221. At the foot of the Howardian Hills, you can see the White House on Sutton Bank from many locations in the town.

Filmed on Friday 10th July 2020, around 10 pm with weather conditions cloudy but bright and around 15°, I was using an Insta360 One R with Roland CS-10EM Binaural Earphones microphones. To provide a snapshot of a period of time, like all others, that will never be repeated.

All filming done by myself, please do not use without expressed permission. Any enquiries should be sent to walkingviewsuk@gmail.com

HD George Jennings' Model Funfair, Jeyes Chemist, Dolly Lodge, Earls Barton, with Hornby Thomas!

Take a stroll through Jeyes Jetty and up the stairs where you will find the collection of fascinating museums and exhibitions. They are not your ordinary museum and aim to offer something different and interesting for all the family to enjoy.

There is a stair lift available to access upstairs and all exhibitions are free entry so please come along and explore at Jeyes.
You’ll love the friendly atmosphere, imaginative and innovative exhibitions and a welcoming smile from Rupert Bear!

George Jennings had put this model funfair together for over a 20 year period. Many of the items were handmade. It cost George over £5000 to create but he has now sold it. It was featured on BBC Look East and About Anglia. It can now be seen by the public at The Dolly Lodge in Earls Barton.

George Jennings, 83, began building his model funfair 20 years ago as a hobby after he retired. The fair soon became his obsession and he has spent years painstakingly hand-painting , developing and expanding the fun fair as you see here today.
The funfair includes a carousel, ferris wheel, cake walk, octopuses, waltzers, a barrel organ, a circus tent, a model village and much more. The rides are fitted with miniature lights, powered motors and even tiny passengers enjoying the rides to the sound of traditional fairground music. Each ride measures on average 18 inches high and 24 inches across. The model funfair is on a 1:24 scale with a full sized fair.

With George’s planned move to the coast his beloved funfair needed to find a new home. David and Georgina Jeyes didn’t hesitate – within hours of seeing the funfair featured on Look East they visited George and his famous fair they knew it belonged on display in their shop for everyone to enjoy.

The Jeyes family moved the funfair in with Rupert Bear and have named it Nutwood Fair after Rupert and his famous adventures! You really have to let your imagination run wild with the rides and reminisce with friends of all those childhood memories

“Life is a rollercoaster…..so hold on tight!”

There is also a number of Hornby Thomas the Tank Engine and friends items and a Hornby Thomas, Emily and Old Slow Coach on the layout.

Windmills of Northamptonshire: Cottingham Windmill

This video is a short clip of the windmill at Cottingham in Northamptonshire, as it looks today. Me and my sister have had a lifelong interest in tall and interesting buildings such as windmills, and aim to go round many of the windmills in the region and other counties in England, so more videos will come in future months.
Cottingham Windmill is a converted tower mill sitting in the beautiful little village of Cottingham close to Corby and Market Harborough. Originally a 4 storey windmill built in the 18th century, this windmill was reduced to three floors in the 1950's. In the 1980's new owners began it's conversion which was completed in 1996.

Filmed on my Sony Cybershot DSC-H55 digital camera on 1st June 2014.
