Latvia is a beautiful country all year around, but I have to suggest you visit in beautiful autumn. The country is known for its famous autumn colours which resemble Indian spices and I cannot begin to explain how beautiful the scenery is here.
But also Latvia gets covered in snow and it looks amazing, so you imagine winter is also a fabulous time to visit. And of course summer brings with it sunshine and the chance to swim in the many wonderful lakes throughout the country. So basically, any time is a great time to visit Latvia.
Whatever your travel style, you’ll find that Latvia is a hidden gem rich in culture, history, and natural beauty.

В январе 1919 года Кристиан был арестован большевиками. Его взяли в Дундагском замке, который он не хотел добровольно оставлять. Потом Кристиана вместе с ректором Мольтрехтом, пастором Дундаги, перевезли в Тукумс. Там их расстреляли. Последний хозяин Дундаги был захоронен в общей могиле, вместе с другими жертвами большевиков.
Легенды:
Однажды хозяин Дундаги фон Майделл ехал в деревню Ирбе. На перекрестке около Слитере (деревня к северу от Дундаги) он встретил коронованное сияющее привидение - царя гномов, жившего в пещере Давида в девственном лесу Слитере. Гном попросил об услуге - жениться на принцессе гномов в часовне Дундагского замка и отпраздновать свадьбу в Зале рыцарей. Если бы никто из смертных этого не увидел, у хозяина Дундаги родился долгожданный сын - пока только дочери. Он получит также сокровища, спрятанные под одним из камней замка.
Хозяин согласился на это. Перед свадьбой всем жителям замка сказали, что они должны сидеть в своих комнатах и ??никому не разрешается выходить.
Горничная хозяйки замка получила прозвище Зеленая Дева из-за ее любви к зеленой одежде. Вечером в условленное время она вышла на балкон замка, чтобы предупредить своего нижнего, чтобы тот покинул замок. Молодой человек согласился на это и уехал к себе домой. Когда Зеленая Дева вернулась в свою комнату, она заметила огни в холле замка. Она сняла туфли и подкралась к двери холла. Сквозь замочную скважину она увидела длинные столы с едой, сверкающие посудой из драгоценных камней и хрусталя. За столами сидели маленькие люди, горели тысячи маленьких лампочек. Когда приехала супружеская пара, Зеленая Дева увидела невесту - словами не передать, какая она была красива! Молча, сама собой сказала - «О!» и немного вздохнул.
В этот момент в холле погас свет, произошел большой взрыв - весь замок снесен. Воцарилась мертвая тишина. Молодая девушка была найдена у дверей замка без сознания и вскоре скончалась.
Вскоре после этих трагических событий хозяин снова ехал в Ирбе и на перекрестке дорог у Слитере снова встретил царя гномов. Царь пришел в ярость и сказал:
«Ты не сдержал своего обещания, и проклятие призвано на замок Дундага! Семья Манделя погибнет вместе с тобой в Курляндии! другое - до тех пор, пока крошечная береза, растущая в стенах замка, не станет достаточно большой, чтобы стать ее колыбелью!
У домовладельца Мэйделла после несчастного недоразумения с гномами не было никаких потомков и истории, если его семья закончилась его смертью. Замок унаследовала его жена Анна Сибилла фон Остен-Сакен - и, таким образом, теперь он принадлежал семье Остен-Сакенс. Но у Остен-Сакенса тоже не было детей, и замок унаследовали их дальние родственники. В 1845 году умер Карл фон Остен-Сакен, а вскоре и его младший брат Теодор. Когда в 1872 году в замке произошел пожар, сгорели интерьеры всех помещений. Кроме одного - Оружейная палата уцелела. В этой комнате хранился каменный идол с городища Пуискалнс - его привезли сюда, чтобы остановить тайные языческие ритуалы вокруг этого камня в его первоначальном удаленном месте.

Arvīds Blūmentāls born in #Dundaga travelled in his early twenties to Australia where he became a world famous crocodile hunter aka Crocodile Harry. ????
It's on him that the Hollywood character Crocodile Dundee is based on.
Maybe the 'Dundee' is even derived from 'Dundaga'... Who knows...
I wouldn't be surprised if Dundage turns into a Mecca for Crocodile Dundee fans from around the globe. ????????????
It's been said that the man hunted 10.000 crocodiles in his life and that's not all. There are many incredible stories.

Slokenbekas Manor - Original Cultural Monument | Top Spot | Discover Latvia | Šlokenbekas muiža
The Šlokenbeka Manor ensemble is among the most unique and original cultural monuments in Latvia. It is one of very few fortified medieval manor samples in the Baltic States and the only one in Latvia, which has preserved up to the modern times.
The Slokenbeka Manor is located in Milzkalne, on the banks of River Slocene, just 5 km from Tukums. The ensemble is home to the Latvian Road Museum, it also houses a hotel and a culture centre.

Jaunpils castle - the place where the Medieval aura still present. I believe Jaunpils castle can surprise every visitor with its might, kidness of people and ancient mood.

Jaunpils Castle was built in 1301 as a Livonian Order castle, surrounded by a moat on three sides, and initially inhabited by small groups of knights. Later on the castle was reconstructed, the large defensive tower was raised, and the upper stories. In 1576, the castle was acquired by Thies von der Recke from the Recke Dynasty, which went on to own the castle for almost 350 years.
In one of the oldest section’s of the castle, under the vaults of the knights’ dining room, the Medieval Pub of the Jaunpils Castle is located.

I live very near this place and pass it very often, but never stopped.
Let me present Lielstraupe Castle. Since 1963 this was the narcology hospital. Closed since 31.12.2017. Now there is a museum and Lutheran church. Finally, I stopped and captured it from the drone.
