S1 – Ep 138 – Olifants River Settlement near Koekenaap!
As we came off the gravel road from Nuwerus, I spotted another small station called Landplaas which we had to go and see. From there we went to Koekenaap, a really small village which I have heard so much about. It's really a very small place! Then it was time for another gravel road through the Olifants River Settlement which is near Koekenaap. The big surprise on this road was the Sere Wind Farm and this was the highlight for Sonia. I could at long last show her the size of the blades on these amazing turbines. Then we took off to Elephant Rock Island, also known as Robeiland, and we basically followed the snaking Olifants River to reach the island. The wind was blowing so hard that we could hardly hear the seals on this rock island but I managed to get some footage to share. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #olifantsriver #koekenaap #elephantisland #landplaas #serewindfarm

S1 – Ep 139 – Lutzville, a very Busy Town on the West Coast!
We stopped off at a farm where they were harvesting tomatoes and spoke to one of the workers. He told us that they were sending the tomatoes to Durban since they can't grow them there successfully. A very interesting fact was that when grape season was over, they grew tomatoes underneath the vineyards to use the same irrigation system. Then we headed for Lutzville. This West Coast town is a very busy place. We took a drive through the town before we headed to our accommodation. We bought chips to snack on because we were starving again! We spent the night at Art Guest House and what a great place. So much effort went into making it a pleasant experience for their guests. The next morning we made a quick stop at the church and then were on our way out of Lutzville. We spotted a rocky outcrop called Vlermuisklip. This was the name the area was given in 1661 after which it was changed to Lutzville in 1923. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #lutzville #westcoast #olifantsriver #vlermuisklip

S1 – Ep 153 – Britstown – The Smartt Dam on the Ongers River!
To be 100% honest, there is nothing better than waking up on a farm away from all the city chaos. Rosedale Farm outside Britstown was no different. We left the cottage and made our way to the Smartt Dam which is on the Ongers River about 2km away from the farmhouse. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I walked up the dam wall and saw the phenomenal sight before my eyes. This is where one can see that water is life! Life for the farmers and their livestock and for the abundance of birdlife which is supported by this dam. I take my hat off to Thomas William Smartt who had the foresight to have this dam built. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #rosedaleguestcottage #smarttdam #britstown

S1 – Ep 303 – Brandvlei – Impressed with the Peaceful Surroundings and Sights!
We arrived at Brandvlei a bit later than expected, but that didn't stop us from having an amazing experience. The first thing we did was have dinner at Die Windpomp Restaurant, and I must say the food was absolutely stunning. I think it's safe to say that we were both impressed with the quality of the dishes that were served. After dinner, we made our way to our accommodation for the night. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The next morning, we had breakfast before heading out to explore the town. One of the first things we saw was the beautiful church, which was truly a sight to behold. We also had the chance to see the hotel which they are in the process of renovating, and even though it was still a work-in-progress, we could already tell that it was going to be gorgeous once it was finished. Overall, our visit to Brandvlei was a wonderful experience. From the amazing food to the bare and barren landscapes to the beautiful sights we saw around town. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #northerncape #brandvlei

S1 – Ep 132 – Willemsrivier, the historical farm outside Nieuwoudtville!
This farm just outside of Nieuwoudtville is a historical beacon for this community. Willemsrivier, known before as Kliprivier, was the settlement before Nieuwoudtville existed. On this farm are the 7th, 8th and 9th generations. The old buildings are rich with history, for example the old Jewish shop, the jail and the building which was used by Generals Smuts and Maritz during the Anglo-Boer war. This building was the first on the farm, built in 1745. Not to mention the old sandstone church which is still there today, built in 1885. There is also a natural source of water, a fountain which supplies the farm. It was a privilege to visit and stay over at this place! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #willemsrivier #historical #nieuwoudtville

S1 – Ep 168 – Kalkkop Crater – Failed Mission Looking for the Meteorite Impact Site!
We left Jansenville all excited to go find the Kalkkop Crater. This is the impact site where a meteorite collided with the earth about 250 000 years ago. The gravel road we took to this site was rough but still really amazing. We saw some beautiful animals along the way and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Unfortunately we reached a part of the road where we couldn’t go any further and had to turn around. We drove past a farmer on the way back and stopped to speak to him about the crater. This gentleman knew so much about it and took us to his house to show us all the samples he had which were collected by all the universities testing at the site. So, our mission basically failed because we didn't get to see the crater, but we were very lucky to speak to this farm owner about it and he graciously shared loads of information with us. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #kalkkopcrater #bulrivier #kendrew #jansenville

S1 – Ep 112 – Overnight on Pendennis Farm outside Villiersdorp!
Being able to overnight on Pendennis farm which is just outside Villiersdorp was awesome. The cottage we stayed in was perfect not to mention having all the farm animals all around us. Our evening meal was really great, the best way to end an amazing day. The next morning the wind was blowing quite strong but we still enjoyed our coffee and mosbolletjies while we sat on the porch listening to the farm animals being fed and watching the beautiful sunrise. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #villiersdorp #pendennis #farm

S1 – Ep 122 – Sleeping Over in Caledon and Visiting Die Woud!
After exploring Caledon, it was fantastic to arrive at Ammabed Accommodation, where we were sleeping over. The apartment was cosy and exactly what we needed to recharge and get ready for the following day. The host told us about a beautiful wedding venue just outside of Caledon which would be worth a visit. When we visited Die Woud, we saw what they had to offer and it just made us realise what awesome places there are to see. The outdoor chapel and glass building were absolutely mind blowingly beautiful. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #caledon #amabed

S1 – Ep 398 – Riebeek West – Two Former South African Prime Ministers were Born here!
Our trip from Tulbagh to Riebeek West was a soggy adventure, with rain pouring down during the entire journey, including our scenic drive towards the town on a gravel road. Despite the downpour, the sight of the Berg River flowing strongly as we crossed the low water bridge was captivating. Upon our arrival in town, the rain persisted, but we made the most of it. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the Riebeek Valley Special School was thriving. What piqued our interest even more was learning that two former South African Prime Ministers were born on farms just outside Riebeek West and once competed in a historic election. Before departing, we indulged in a delectable meal at Angie's Coffee Shop & Bistro. Our visit to Riebeek West was truly a memorable experience despite the wet weather. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #riebeekwest

S1 – Ep 150 – Victoria West – The Diamond Way between Cape Town and Kimberley!
After our stuck-in-the-mud experience on the Bokpoort road we took the tar road to Victoria West. It was interesting to learn that it marked the beginning of the Diamond Way between Cape Town and Kimberley. As we approached Victoria West, we saw beautiful pink flamingos on the dam just before town and they did a fly-by just for us. On entering the town, we could sense the rich history. Our stay at Merino Junction in the centre of town was fabulous. We rarely stay in hotels, so this was special. The food was amazing and not to mention our warm and cozy room. The next morning we were up early and ready to explore the rest of the town. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #bokpoort #victoriawest #merinojunction,
