Today is our last day in Lushan Mountain area and we were fortunate to accidentally visit this incredible Buddhist temple named Donglin Tmple. In my opinion, this is the most inspiring place of worship in mainland China, of course I mean Buddhism wise. So check it out. Thank you.

THE CLEANEST VILLAGE OF KARNATAKA, THE HIDDEN TIBET- DHONDENLING| BEST PLACE TO VISIT NEAR BENGALURU
In 1950 China attacked Tibet and it led to a lot of Tibetan people to leave their country and to take refuge in India. Indian government let the people to settle at different location of the country, out of which Karnataka itself has 3 Tibetan settlements and Dhondenling is one of those settlements located in Kollegala. This hidden gem is just 170 Kms far from Bengaluru and surrounded by the beautiful BR hills, at a height of 3345 ft. The place was established as a Tibetan refugee settlement in 1974 in a forest. It is the home to five prime monasteries, these are Dzogchen Monastery, Taksham Monastery, Tana Monastery, Dhargyal Monastery, and Bayoe Monastery. Once you visit Dhondenling, you can also visit BR hills and Bada Chukki falls which makes this place a perfect weekend gateway. The most beautiful thing about this village is it's people, who are very humble, kind, a little camera shy though and very peaceful. Once you enter this village, you will find a beautiful prayer wheel with a stupa, from where you can get a panoramic view of BR hills, and it will take your breath away. You will fall in love with village at it's first viewpoint. You can also explore the beautiful villages (22 villages) which are named as A village, B village, L village and so on. The houses of the villages and amazing and you will find beautiful benches everywhere, on which you can sit, relax with beautiful views. When it comes to stay, then there are couple of places; however, we stayed in the famous Dhondenling guest house which has a great dining area as well, where you can try different Tibetan cuisines and fast foods. Makes sure that you pre-book this guest house one week in advance before going.

Shanghai Donglin Temple is a Buddhist temple established in 1308 and initially named The pavilion of bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara 观音阁, which is in Shanghai's Jinshan district and renowned for its huge Buddhist structure crowds that have kept the architecture traits of the Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, and Qing Dynasty.
In 1313, the temple was renamed Donglin Temple 东林寺. During recent days between 2004 and 2008, a significant project of reconstruction and renovation expanded the temple to its current size, and it complemented the parcel of land with a set of new impressive attractions.
Attractions:
The golden bridge 金愿桥
It is an exquisite bronze-made arch bridge stairs that connect the frontage to the temple main gate, as the bridge has its glittering surface ornamented with 1017 carved Chinese characters of happiness福, it is also named The Bridge of A Thousand of Happiness 千福桥. Flanking the Golden Bridge are two resembling arch bridge stairs that are made of stone and white jade.
The triple arch gate 三门
This white jade-made gate comprises 3 arches in a row and has 5 golden hand-made bronze sculptures of lotus and 48 jade statues of Buddha on top of it. The gate combining with the bridges in front of it as well as a magnificent artificial hill in the background lends the temple an air of distinctive solemnity, which tends to evoke visitors' strong curiosity to go inside and obtain more background stories about the site.
The statue of Sudhana (the child of wealth) 善财童子像
This statue is nestled in front of the Grand Hall and elevated above the central pond inside the courtyard. It is produced with the technologies of Cloisonné and has a height of 5.4 meters, which is the highest Cloisonné statue artwork nationwide.
A pair of bronze pavilions 钟鼓楼
There is a pair of bronze pavilions situated on both the western side and eastern side of the temple courtyard, which are the Bell Pavilion 钟楼 and the Drum Pavilion 鼓楼. Under sunshine, these two glittering pavilions look extraordinarily fancy and inviting.
The pavilion of bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara 观音阁
Secluded underneath the huge artificial hill of the temple, the pavilion of bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara is a must-see attraction due to a pair of giant bronze doors (20.08 meters high) and a giant statue of bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (35 meters high) are both peerless in height dimensions of the same kinds nationwide. Noticeably, a giant Chinese character of 佛 Buddha is formed up by 999 reliefs of bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara figure on the doors. Guarding the frontage of the pavilion are enormous golden Buddha statues that are mounted on the two walls flanking the entrance gate. While the tour keeps moving inside, a looming statue behind the door is gradually taking over the sight. The striking statue of bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara is definitely the highlight of the day that will leave your visit a brilliant impression by its sheer scale and spectacular look. Taking the elevator to the 7th floor, visitors are facilitated with a chance to take a close look at the top of this remarkable marvel by walking through the skywalk around it.
The statue of Five Buddhas 五佛冠
A flight of stairs stretching from the inside skywalk is leading visitors' tour to the top of the hill where a bronze statue of five-Buddhas is situated and overlooking the entire temple.

Donglin Temple (simplified Chinese: 东林寺; traditional Chinese: 東林寺; pinyin: Dōnglín sì; lit. 'Eastern Forest Temple') is a Buddhist temple approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Jiujiang, in the north of Jiangxi province, China. Built in 386 CE at the foot of Mountain Lu by Huiyuan, founder of the Pure Land Buddhism, it is well known for how long it has stood without collapsing.
In the Tang dynasty, Jianzhen made several trips to Japan for the mission of preaching Buddhism. As a result, Huiyuan and the doctrine of Donglin Temple began to spread in Japan. Donglin Temple made contributions to improve cultural exchanges and friendly visits between China and Nepal, India, Japan.
The monastery reached its peak of influence during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE), but was severely damaged during the Taiping Rebellion and was almost destroyed during the Republican period (1912–1949) of Chinese history.
History
Eastern Jin dynasty
Donglin Temple was originally built as Longquan Jingshe (龙泉精舍) in 386 by a prominent Buddhist monk named Huiyuan, founder of the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism, under the Eastern Jin dynasty (266–420). During his time as abbot, he disseminated Pure Land Buddhism for 30 years, and attracted large numbers of practitioners. He organized the White Lotus Society (白莲社), a community gathered 123 Chinese and foreign monks and scholars. Indian Buddhist monks Tanmoti (昙摩提) and Sengjia Tipo (僧加提婆) also delivered Buddhism at that time.
Tang dynasty
The temple experienced unprecedented growth during the Tang dynasty (618–907), and it had more than one thousand monks and was 120,000-square-metre (1,300,000 sq ft) in size, with 310 halls and rooms.[1][4] Jianzhen, an exceptional Buddhist monk, lectured the sutras and precepts in the temple before going to Japan. In 753, in the 12th year of Tianbao period, Zhi'en (智恩), a monk in Donglin Temple, arrived in Japan with Jianzhen.

Guest houses are provided free of charge for tourists for living there up to three days. Like monastic living, they are sex segregated and rooms have to be shared.
Big Buddha of Donglin
After decades long donation campaign, the temple built a 48-metre (157 ft) tall statue of the buddha Amitābha surrounded by an 80-metre (260 ft)-tall flame sculpture.
Public Access
Unlike many tourist sites in China, visitors are not required to buy any tickets in this temple. On the contrary, tourists can have free vegetarian meals together with monks (at 6:00–6:30, 11:00–11:30, 17:00–17:30) after joining their religious nianfo exercises.

Chinese calligraphy exhibition in Beijing, China
Chinese calligraphy is the writing of Chinese characters as an art form, combining purely visual art and interpretation of the literary meaning. This type of expression has been widely practiced in China and has been generally held in high esteem across East Asia. Calligraphy is considered as one of the four best friends of ancient Chinese literati, along with playing stringed musical instruments, the board game Go, and painting. There are some general standardizations of the various styles of calligraphy in this tradition. Chinese calligraphy and ink and wash painting are closely related: they are accomplished using similar tools and techniques, and have a long history of shared artistry. Distinguishing features of Chinese painting and calligraphy include an emphasis on motion charged with dynamic life. According to Stanley-Baker, Calligraphy is sheer life experienced through energy in motion that is registered as traces on silk or paper, with time and rhythm in shifting space its main ingredients.[1] Calligraphy has also led to the development of many forms of art in China, including seal carving, ornate paperweights, and inkstones.
Characteristics
In China, calligraphy is referred to as shūfǎ or fǎshū (書法/书法, 法書/法书), literally 'way/method/law of writing';[2] shodō (書道) in Japan ('way/principle of writing'); and seoye (서예; 書藝) in Korea ('skill/criterion of writing'[3]).
Chinese calligraphy appreciated more or only for its aesthetic quality has a long tradition, and is today regarded as one of the arts (Chinese 藝術/艺术 pinyin: yìshù, a relatively recent word in Chinese)[4] in the countries where it is practised. Chinese calligraphy focuses not only on methods of writing but also on cultivating one's character (人品)[5] and taught as a pursuit (－書法; pinyin: shūfǎ, rules of writing Han characters[6]).
Chinese script styles
Oracle bone script
Oracle bone script was an early form of Chinese characters written on animals' bones. Written on oracle bones – animal bones or turtle plastrons – it is the earliest known form of Chinese writing. The first appearance of what we recognize unequivocally to refer as oracle bone inscriptions comes in the form of inscribed ox scapulae and turtle plastrons from sites near modern Anyang (安阳) on the northern border of Henan province. The vast majority were found at the Yinxu site in this region. They record pyromantic divinations of the last nine kings of the Shang dynasty, beginning with Wu Ding, whose accession is dated by different scholars at 1250 BC or 1200 BC.[7][8] Though there is no proof that the Shang dynasty was solely responsible for the origin of writing in China, neither is there evidence of recognizable Chinese writing from any earlier time or any other place.[9] The late Shang oracle bone writings constitute the earliest significant corpus of Chinese writing and it is also the oldest known member and ancestor of the Chinese family of scripts, preceding the Chinese bronze inscriptions.[10]
Chinese Bronze Inscriptions
Chinese bronze inscriptions were usually written on the Chinese ritual bronzes. These Chinese ritual bronzes include Ding (鼎), Dui (敦), Gu (觚), Guang (觥), Gui (簋), Hu (壺), Jia (斝), Jue (爵), Yi (匜), You (卣), Zun (尊), and Yi (彝).[11] Different time periods used different methods of inscription. Shang bronze inscriptions were nearly all cast at the same time as the implements on which they appear.[12] In later dynasties such as Western Zhou, Spring and Autumn Period, the inscriptions were often engraved after the bronze was cast.[13] Bronze inscriptions are one of the earliest scripts in the Chinese family of scripts, preceded by the oracle bone script.
Seal script
Seal script (Chinese: 篆書; pinyin: zhuànshū) is an ancient style of writing Chinese characters that was common throughout the latter half of the 1st millennium BC. It evolved organically out of the Zhou dynasty script. The Qin variant of seal script eventually became the standard, and was adopted as the formal script for all of China during the Qin dynasty.
Clerical script
The Clerical script (traditional Chinese: 隸書; simplified Chinese: 隶书; pinyin: lìshū) is an archaic style of Chinese calligraphy. The clerical script was first used during the Han dynasty and has lasted up to the present. The clerical script is considered a form of the modern script though it was replaced by the standard script relatively early. This occurred because the graphic forms written in a mature clerical script closely resemble those written in standard script.[12] The clerical script is still used for artistic flavor in a variety of functional applications because of its high legibility for reading.
