HONG KONG'S MUST EAT FOOD • THE ULTIMATE STREET FOOD EXPERIENCE

愛文生大排檔 || oi man sang dai pai dong

EXPLORING HONG KONG'S OPEN AIR FOOD STALLS - the ultimate must eat food when in Hong Kong!!!

One of my favourite things about Hong Kong is the fact this beautiful city has an amazing balance & blend of old & new, east meets west.

In this episode, I’m super excited to share with you one of my favourite Hong Kong foodie restaurants, that serves some of the yummiest and value-for-money food!

Dai Pai Dong’s (大排檔), refer to open air cooked food stalls, where the kitchen (is often located on the streets)!

Oi Man Sang (restaurant name in Chinese 愛文生), is one of my favourite dai pai dong’s, and is located in Sham Shui Po (Tsuen Wan red line MTR) of Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Experiencing Hong Kong’s most loved traditions is a must-do for any passionate foodie, and it helps that their menu is English friendly too!

Check out the video for my favourite dishes and feel free to share your favourite dai pai dong's in Hong Kong too!

Hong Kong Street Food Tour — Roasted Meat and Amazing Dai Pai Dong Experience!

►Subscribe to my videos:
►25 Must-Eat Dishes in Hong Kong:
►Hong Kong Travel Guide for Food Lovers:

On Day 38 of our Round The World Trip for Food with Star Alliance, I wanted to make it a full on Hong Kong street food tour. We first started with some amazing Hong Kong roast meat, then had lunch at a legendary Hong Kong dai pai dong street food stall, and then continued on to a local Hong Kong dai pai dong for dinner.

00:50 Kwan Yu Roasted Meat (君御燒味) - Starting off the morning, we first ate at Kwan Yu Roasted Meat (君御燒味), a small and friendly Cantonese roasted meat restaurant. I ordered roast pork, char siu, and also got a soy sauce pigeon on the side. Everything was good, but the soy sauce pigeon, a local Hong Kong delicacy, was the best. Nothing like starting off a Hong Kong food tour with some roasted meats! Total price - 81 HKD ($10.44)

What is a dai pai dong? A dai pai dong officially means a restaurant with a big license plate, but it refers to usually open air cooked food stalls, or Hong Kong street food stalls.

7:20 Sing Kee (盛記) - One of the legendary Hong Kong street food dai pai dong’s located right in the heart of Hong Kong central is Sing Kee (盛記). They serve all sorts of stir fried dishes that you order to make. I ordered a plate of sweet and sour pork ribs, chicken with ginger and spring onion, and clams in black bean sauce. The street food stall has an amazing atmosphere, slotted between sky rise buildings within an alley. The chef was pretty friendly, and when I was taking photos, he offered me a taste test of the sweet and sour ribs, right out of the wok. Sing Kee (盛記) is an amazing Hong Kong street food stall to eat at when you’re in Hong Kong. Total price - 169 HKD ($21.79)

13:27 Chan Kun Kee (陳根記) dai pai dong (Thank you to: for this recommendation) - Finally for dinner, I decided we needed to take a little food mission to Fo Tan Station, Wo Che Estate, Sha Tin, Hong Kong, in search of a properly local Hong Kong dai pai dong experience. The restaurant was tucked back into a neighborhood, far removed from the everyday hustle of Hong Kong. Yet in the midst of the condos, there it was, Chan Kun Kee (陳根記), an incredibly huge open air restaurant serving all things Cantonese food. I ordered the drunken chicken, fried fish, mantis shrimp, and a spicy fish pot. The food was awesome, and the loud and hectic Hong Kong environment was perfect. This was a stop on today’s Hong Kong food tour that was well worth getting off the eaten path for. Total price - 402 HKD ($51.83)

It was an amazing day of eating Hong Kong street food on this food tour. I don’t think I can choose a favorite meal or dish of the day, they were all so delicious!

MUST TRY Hong Kong Street Food Dai Pai Dong! 🇭🇰

Visiting a dai pai dong is a quintessential Hong Kong Food experience!!

Hong Kong Street Food - LEGENDARY Dai Pai Dong in Sham Shui Po!!! BEST Street Food in Hong Kong!

SNAKE SOUP in Hong Kong episode 1:

Welcome to the second episode of our Hong Kong street food series. Today, we will be showing you some of the best and affordable street food and local, traditional food you can find in the Sham Shui Po area, a district that preserves the feel of Old Hong Kong - where the locals live!

To start our day, we have a traditional beef sandwich with a Hong Kong style milk tea (total 37 HKD / 4.71 USD). The beef was juicy and tender. No extra sauce needed! We explore the Sham Shui Po market for tons of shopping and locate a rare street food at a shop specializing in soy bean. We had fried tofu chunks stuffed with fish paste. It was awesome watching the chefs prepare the tofu. This snack was so delicious and CHEAP (15 HKD / 1.91 USD for 5 pieces). And of course, we washed it down with fresh soy milk (7 HKD / 0.89 USD). Continuing through the street food market, we came by a Cantonese classic dish - cheong fun! This stall was unique however because the shape of the cheong fun (10 HKD / 1.27 USD for small) was rolled into small bites like the Korean street food Tteokbokki. Such a great street food to enjoy in a small Hong Kong alleyway! To end the day, we eat at one of the most important street food restaurants in all of Hong Kong, at a dai pai dong. Dai pai dong’s are quite important because they are quickly disappearing off the streets and becoming modernized. There are only a few left that truly preserve the culture of Hong Kong and Oi Man Sang is one of the few! We had Hong Kong style clams, beef and rice street side! It all was mouthwatering and the chefs were cooking right on the street (298 HKD / 37.96 USD including beers).

Thanks for joining us on another INSANE street food adventure in Hong Kong! More street food to come very soon! Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any episode! Thanks for watching!

On Day 37 of our Round The World Trip For Food, we continued the food tour of Hong Kong starting with a classic Hong Kong breakfast of lemon tea and a beef and scrambled egg sandwich. We then had some delicious bamboo pounded noodles and wonton, and then continued to have dinner at a famous dai pai dong.

00:29 Sun Hang Yuen (新香園 堅記 Thank you to Josephine for this recommendation) - For breakfast in Hong Kong we headed over to Sham Shui Po and went to a classic Hong Kong cafe and restaurant called Sun Hang Yuen (新香園 堅記). I ordered my usual hot lemon tea, a glass of black tea with a half of a lemon chopped up inside. It was wonderful. We then had a beef and scrambled egg sandwich, which was surprisingly much better than I thought it was going to be. The bread was toasted wonderfully and the beef and eggs on the inside tasted so good, fried in what I think was butter. Total price - 33 HKD ($4.25)

4:58 Sham Shui Po market - After eating breakfast we walked around the Sham Shui Po market, a local fresh wet market in Hong Kong. The market was busy and stocked with everything you could imaging that goes into Hong Kong food.

6:29 Kwan Kee Bamboo Noodle (坤記竹昇面) - There are many famous restaurants in Hong Kong that serve egg noodles and wonton, but I really wanted to find a restaurant that specialized in bamboo kneaded noodles, which is becoming harder and harder to find in Hong Kong. So finally I found a place called Kwan Kee Bamboo Noodle (坤記竹昇面), a new restaurant that uses the owner's family recipe and technique for making his noodles. I was hoping to get to see the noodles being made, but unfortunately they weren’t making them at the time we got there to eat. Nevertheless, the noodles were still made using a bamboo pole to knead the dough. The noodles were amazing, had such a fantastic texture to them, and the wontons were equally as delicious. It was a fantastic noodle eating experience in Hong Kong. Total price - 84 HKD ($10.83)

13:11 Mong Kok, Ladies Market - Mongkok is one of the most famous areas in Hong Kong for shopping, and we walked around the area for a little bit. Ladies Market is a walking street flea market where you’ll find everything from clothes to souvenirs to luggage.

16:40 Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Star Ferry - 2.3 HKD ($0.30) - After walking around Mongkok we took the bus over to Tsim Sha Tsui to walk around and enjoy the views of the skyline of Hong Kong.

18:26 Tung Po Restaurant at Java Road Market (Thank you to Charles for this recommendation) - For dinner, we went to Java Road Market, and to a restaurant called Tung Po, that’s a well known dai pai dong restaurant within the market. They serve a huge menu of different Cantonese and even Thai dishes. My wife and I ordered a couple of different dishes, the highlight of the meal being the razor clams stir fried in black bean sauce. In addition to the food, the ambiance of the restaurant is exactly what you want in Hong Kong. Total price - 464 HKD ($59.83)

26:00 A Symphony of Lights - Finally to end this day of food in Hong Kong we went back to Tsim Sha Tsui to see the symphony of lights show.

Ever had a Dai Pai Dong meal in Hong Kong? These open-air eateries are increasingly scarce in Hong Kong, but the dishes in these places are full of ‘wok hei’. What can only be described as a fire-kissed, charred flavour in your food!

Hong Kong Street Food - Walking Through Dai Pai Dong

Hong Kong Food: Dai Pai Dong

Dai Pai Dong literally translates to “big license stall” referring to their bigger than average license plates displayed in their stall. Founded after the Second World War, the license to operate a Dai Pai Dong was a means provided by the government to families of deceased and injured civil servants as a way to earn a living. We meet up with Alex who takes us to try some of his favourite Dai Pai Dong dishes such as Sweet & Sour Pork, Razor Clams, Garlic Scallops and Fried Squid. Of course, no Dai Pai Dong meal is complete without some friends and ice-cold beers.

There is no better way to finish off a full day of eating than with dessert. There are so many options to choose from but let’s keep it simple. Mango Sago or Egg Waffles?

Chợ thủ đức thuộc phường nào,ăn vặt chợ thủ đức,trước khi dịch bệnh,chợ thủ đức covid(Thu Duc Market

Thu Duc Market
Thu Duc district is located at the northeast gateway to Ho Chi Minh City. The formation and development of Thu Duc from its wild days to today cannot help but mention an ancient market in this region: Thu Duc market.
For more than 200 years, Thu Duc market is a witness of many ups and downs, an indispensable place in the daily life of the people here. However, people with public markets contribute to reclaiming this land to become rich again. . . the scent of cold smoke.
On July 22, the Department of Culture and Information of Thu Duc District coordinated with the People's Committee of Linh Chieu Ward to organize the inauguration ceremony of the city-level art and architectural relic restoration project - Ta Duong Minh's grave area on the street. No. 10, Ward.4, Linh Chieu Ward, Thu Duc District.
Former sage Ta Duong Minh is a person with great merit for the opening and development of Thu Duc land when he first established the hamlet.
From the beginning, the land of Thu Duc today corresponds to Ngai An district of Bien Hoa province (now Dong Nai). After many historical changes, merging and separating, this land was merged into Gia Dinh province (present-day Ho Chi Minh City).

Under the French colonial rule, on October 9, 1868, the name Thu Duc appeared with the separation of Ngai An district to establish an independent inspection area, called the Thu Duc inspection area.
Then, on January 1, 1911, Gia Dinh province was divided by the French into 4 districts: Hoc Mon, Thu Duc (including present-day Districts 2 and 9), Go Vap and Nha Be. Thus, the name Thu Duc appeared at least 150 years ago.

Regarding the title of Thu Duc, based on the relics and historical records still recorded, there is Mr. Ta Duong Minh (also known as Ta Huy, the name of Thu Duc), the leader of the Chinese minority who anti-Thanh restore Minh was arrested by the government. Thanh pursued aggressively, so he evaded, emigrated to Vietnam to submit to the Nguyen Dynasty and voluntarily became a subject of Vietnam.

With the wide policy of recruiting people to establish hamlets of the court at that time, Mr. Ta Huy was accepted. In the old Linh Chieu Dong area, they joined some Vietnamese, Champa, and Chan Lap residents to reclaim wasteland, expand farming, and set up a career.
To make it convenient for people to trade, Mr. Ta Duong Minh built a large market located in a beautiful location, convenient for trade in this area and called it Thu Duc market - one of the largest and bustling markets in Saigon. Gon at that time.

Previously, on the side of Thu Duc market, there was a house from the street to worship Mr. Ta Duong Minh, but after 1975, the altar of the house from this street was moved to Linh Chieu Dong communal house (ie Linh Dong communal house), Linh Chieu ward. (Thu Duc). In the word road, there is a sign written in Chinese characters, the content is translated as: From Ta Duong Minh street, former sage surname Ta, brand name Thu Duc Huy Huy - Chanh birthday on June 19.

Also at Linh Chieu Ward, there is an ancient tomb located on an area of more than 100 square meters, with elephant-style architecture, two rings of walls nearly half a meter thick inside and out.
In front of the tomb is a stone stele attached to the foot of the tomb, engraved with Chinese characters, the content is as follows: Tomb of Mr. Ta Huy, brand name Thu Duc, former sage of Linh Chieu village, Dong Dai Nam country. He died on June 19. The village dignitaries set up a tombstone on the auspicious day of February 1890.
