On the road from Debre Birhan to Debre Sina, a town Located in the Semien Wollo zone of the Amhara region, there is a stunning view of the Menelik’s window landscape. Ethiopian emperor Menelik II, who is known for defeating the Italian invaders and for modernizing Ethiopia, found this place special, a view into the real Ethiopia across miles of mountains. This “window” allows one to look from the high country for miles and miles to the landscape beyond. The area features woven woolen baskets and hats made by the locals in which they display it for sale on the top of the mountain. This beautiful landscape also features live large troops of gelada baboons which are endemic to Ethiopia. Come to the motherland and enjoy the Aerial view of Menelik’s Window landscape. The area has natural, cultural and historical values besides its closeness to the capital city Addis Ababa.
Menelik’s window Ye-Minilk Meskot. A breathtaking landscape, a place where local people display on the grass and sell baskets and hats woven by themselves.

3 Amazing Places to Visit in Gondar, Ethiopia - A Historical City to Travel

3 Places to Visit in Gondar, Ethiopia - a Historical City

1. ‌Fasil Ghebbi

‌An ancient home of kings and queens, these crumbling castle walls have seen the rise and fall of Ethiopia's elite.

‌Fasil Ghebbi served as the royal residence for the rulers of Ethiopia from the 1640s to 1864.

The Royal Enclosure houses a series of churches, palaces and monasteries, each with their own architectural style.

2. ‌Debre Birhan Selassie Church

‌Don't be fooled by its modest yellow brick exterior, inside awaits a stunning, kaleidoscopic display of creativity in murals, wall paintings, and a ceiling covered with angels.

Debre Birhan Selassie church is one of the most beautiful churches in Ethiopia.

‌Debire Birhan Selassie Church, meaning 'Trinity and Mountain of Light' is the most famous place of worship in Gondar.

‌The church provides a stunning visual synopsis of important biblical stories.

‌Below the cherubs, past the tabernacle lies the Kafka-esque depiction of hell created by 17th century artist, Haile Meskel.

‌Full of sneering demons and tortured sinners, contoured bodies lie bruised and bloody on the walls, their pain etched so evocatively on their faces. Their emotion is almost palpable.

3. ‌Simien Mountains National Park

‌Jaw-dropping plateaus, ridges, gorges and gullies characterize this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

‌With some of the world's best trekking routes, endemic wildlife and luxurious lodges perched in hills, the Simien Mountains are Ethiopia's most popular destination, and for good reason.

‌Stunning Viewpoints

‌The entire Simien range is characterized by exceptional scenery.

As you advance further into the park, the altitude increases and the viewpoints become increasingly spectacular.

The first major viewpoint you’ll encounter is Imet Gogo, sitting at 3,926m between the Gich and Chennek campsites.

‌As you continue your journey, you’ll find Mount Bwahit at 4,430m, and for the adventurous, Ras Dashen towers just east of Mount Bwahit at a staggering 4,550m, making it Ethiopia’s highest peak and the tenth highest peak in Africa.

‌Experiencing the Simien Mountains isn’t limited to those willing to camp.

Simien Lodge is Africa’s highest lodge and sits inside the national park,

Wonders of Ethiopia: Castles, Churches, and Colorful Deserts 🇪🇹

Ethiopia, often described as the Cradle of Humanity, is a mosaic of history, culture, and staggering natural beauty. Located in the Horn of Africa, it's home to the ancient Kingdom of Aksum, which once boasted the Queen of Sheba and the final resting place of the Ark of the Covenant. Gondar, often referred to as the Camelot of Africa, showcases castles and churches from the Ethiopian empire. The walled city of Harar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, stands as a symbol of Islamic influence, known for its intricate basketry, vibrant markets, and a unique tradition of feeding wild hyenas. Meanwhile, the Simien Mountains offer panoramic vistas and a glimpse of rare wildlife. In stark contrast, the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela remain an architectural marvel and testament to the nation's deep Christian roots. The Afar Region offers the alien-like landscapes of the Danakil Depression, with Dallol being one of its most visually striking areas, renowned for its otherworldly colors and extreme temperatures. Each destination in Ethiopia offers a distinct flavor of the country's multifaceted charm.

Tour to Historical place (Dessie) ደሴ

Dessie is a part of the Wello region, thus having a
similar style of cultural clothing, music, and dances to
other cities in the former Wollo Province. Men's
traditional clothing is, mostly, similar to the rest of the
Amhara region's. Women's traditional clothing
includes a habesha kemis, which is a dress, as well as
a matching scarf, sometimes two, one tied around the
waist and the other over the hair.

Prior to Dessie's foundation, the major settlement in
this area was Wasal, mentioned in an early 16th century Italian itinerary, Wasel is mentioned as a
place that dismembered pieces of the Adal Sultanate's Badlay in Sa'ad ad-Din were sent after his defeat in battle.

19th century
Dessie was founded by Emperor Yohannes IV who was camping in the highlands to the west of the Chefa Valley in 1882 on an expedition to forcefully convert the Muslims who lived in the region to Christianity. As he was looking for a place to centralize his power in Wollo, he stayed overnight in a pre-existing town that is now contained within Dessie. While there, he spotted a comet. He was so impressed by the sight of it that he interpreted it to be a sign from heaven to found his capital city there. A similar story to Zara Yaqob's founding of his capital, Debre Birhan. Thus, he named it Dessie (Amharic: My Joy), as a reference to the elation that the comet had made him
feel.

Dessie increased in importance when Ras Mikael, son- in-law to Emperor Menelik II, made it his base. The city was where his son, would-be emperor Lij lyasus, crowned Mikel negus around 1915. During his residence in Dessie, the Negus built a palace and the Church Enda Medhane Alem, said to be placed on the site of a church destroyed by Ahmed Gragn. The Church is decorated with paintings which include portraits of Ras Mikael and his son.
After the defeat of his father Negus Mikael, Lij lyasu
took refuge in Dessie beginning on 8 November 1916 while unsuccessfully seeking support from as Wolde Giyorgis and other major nobles of northern Ethiopia. However, Ras Wolde Giyorgis used these overtures to extract concessions from the central government, then marched on Dessie which Lij lyasu fled 10 December.
