A Tour of DeFuniak Springs, Florida

DeFuniak Springs is a small town about 30 miles north from the beautiful beaches in Walton County, Florida. The town is situated around a nearly perfect circular, spring fed lake - one of just two in the world. I spent a day walking around town, checking out the beautiful old homes, and visiting some of the local shops and restaurants. Florida's oldest hot dog stand and the state's oldest (still in operation) library is here, too!

Small Town Life in DeFuniak Springs | Florida

Hello Explorers! In this video we show downtown Defuniak Springs. This video was actually compiled using extra footage we had captured when doing our first video. We had intended on including this footage in that video but we noticed a trend that people don't tend to watch videos that are long. So, we decided to take the entire stay and split the videos into two. This area was just too cute to not show! Since we didn't record an actual opening, we decided to voice over and intro and outro for the video. Take a look!

Defuniak Springs Has A Beautiful Lake Nearby - Should you visit it?

Lake DeFuniak is an almost perfectly circular 40 acre lake in DeFuniak Springs, Florida in the center of the DeFuniak Springs Historic District. Lake DeFuniak is one of the two almost perfectly round circular spring-fed lakes in the world, the other being Kingsley Lake. We walk all the way around it and enjoy feeding the ducks and turtles along the way.

I (Erica) am originally from North Central Florida, and David is from North Central Kansas. We met on 30A Florida and fell in love. The 30A name comes from a road in South Walton County (County Road 30A) that spans roughly 20 miles along the Florida Panhandle coastline. It can be found in the stretch between Destin and Panama City Beach. We got married at Camp Helen State Park in Inlet Beach, and live in Seagrove Beach on 30A, where David has resided for 14 years and we’ve resided together for 5 years. We wanted to start a YouTube Channel that would better reflect the interactions we have with the businesses and people living on 30A year round. Most videos are from real estate agents talking about the thousands of incredible multi-million dollar homes here, and the lifestyle that comes along with #beachlife. We started the 30A Misfits travelvlog to share our “real-life” experiences with locals and tourists on the Emerald Coast, and specifically 30A locals, and the millions of people that vacation on 30A in Florida every year.

In the 30A area, you'll find the beach communities of Dune Allen Beach, Gulf Place, Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, WaterColor, Seaside, Seagrove Beach, WaterSound, Alys Beach, Seacrest, Rosemary Beach, and Inlet Beach.

5/21/18 (Day 1) Trip to DeFuniak Springs, FL with Overview of Historic District; Victorian Houses

Don and Hazel’s first day of a planned car road trip (2018) from Port Orange, FL to/through 26 states in 54 days, with photos and info. Mostly using Historic US Highway 90, our first stop was a quick trip to see Suwannee River State Park, then another quick stop for photos at Jim Woodruff Lock & Dam in Sneads, FL. We spent the night in DeFuniak Springs – definitely a sleepy little town. A walk around Lake DeFuniak is a walk back into Victorian times, when labor and materials were plentiful and elaborate architectural details were incorporated in the homes being built. Turrets, double verandas, classic fluted columns, gingerbread trim, and window dormers all resulted in interesting architecture. Most of the homes on Circle Drive are now on the National Register of Historic Places. I especially liked the Nook and Cranny store, Bogey’s Restaurant, Victorian homes, and an impressive magnolia tree! After a short, partial walk around Lake DeFuniak to see the beautiful houses and the Chipley Park on Circle Drive, we had dinner at McLain’s Family Steakhouse & Buffet – an interesting restaurant in DeFuniak Springs, with airplanes on ceiling (the Eglin Air Force Base is nearby). Our day ended with a beautiful sunset… and we enjoyed our King size room at the Regency Inn and Suites.

Defuniak Springs Tour (Hotel Defuniak, Cafe NOLA, Lake Defuniak, Haunted Hospital and more!)

#defuniaksprings #Hoteldefuniak #lgwing5g
Spent the day here for my 4th time in this beautiful and historic town. We looked at the beautiful Lake Defuniak surrounded by historic homes and shops. The old Defuniak Library, old Hospital and the amazing Haunted Hotel Defuniak and had lunch at Café Nola. I have stayed a few times here. Once all alone and a few other times as well. Always great evidence. Shout out to my good friend Chef Ernie! I had to add music a few times so not to get a copyright strike. And a disclaimer, I spelled Defuniak wrong on the Vault 46 shop video. This is a unique shop almost across from the Hotel Defuniak. Stop in and you will see some amazing and unique Items. Thank you Margaret for showing me around! always great to see your store. It's a wrap, If you get in town, stop and hit all the shops and stores. All in walking distance. Also see the Nook and Cranny Antique store. They Always have some cool and sometimes creepy things. I know, I have bought a few! Shot this video entirely with my LG-wing. Cheers to my new subscriber family.

Defuniak Springs

Sam Story, Chief of the Euchee, invited Daniel D. Campbell and Nell McLennan to accompany him on a trip to Pensacola in spring 1818. These were the first of many Scottish-descended settlers who traveled to Florida from North and South Carolina. They settled beside Bruce Creek, naming the settlement Eucheeanna. In 1828, Eucheanna was named its seat of government for Walton County. In 1890, the title passed to DeFuniak Springs, the current seat of government.

Walton County contains Florida's highest point, a site close to Lakewood that rises 345 feet above sea level. DeFuniak Spring houses the oldest library in Florida still located in its first building, as well as the oldest Presbyterian Church in Florida, founded May 27, 1827. The first war monument honoring fallen Confederate soldiers from Walton County was originally located at the Presbyterian Church in Euchee Valley in Eucheeanna; in the late 19th century it was moved to the grounds of the county courthouse in DeFuniak Springs, where it still stands today.

See Inside the Historic Hotel Defuniak | Defuniak Springs | Florida

Hello Explorers! This video kicks off our official road trip for 2023 and we start by visiting Defuniak Springs along the Emerald Coast! We stayed in the historic Hotel Defuniak for a few nights and boy, did this place have a lot of history. It is also said to be haunted and while we don't have any definitive proof ourselves, we caught something questionable on camera. Many paranormal investigators have stayed here and all of them have stated there is something extraordinary about it.
Along with this awesome place, it also based us near some springs, allowing us to participate in one of our favorite activities: swimming and diving! Come along!
