Fort DeSoto | COMPLETE TOUR | Best Florida Beaches

Fort DeSoto Park offers visitors some of the best Florida Beaches and so much more. In this video, we'll take you on a complete tour of Fort Desoto. We hope this video will help you to experience some of the great things that Fort DeSoto has to offer and maybe even to plan your own trip.

We start our day off at Fort Desoto by heading to the far East tip of the island where we enjoy watching kitesurfers on the warm, windy Florida day. We start working our way west, where our next stop is East Beach where we check out the beach and facilities after walking the path through a forest of palm trees.

We continue to head west to the Bay Pier, where we enjoy the views of Tampa Bay from the end of the 500 foot pier. We also check out the Egmont Key Ferry Terminal and the Dog Park. After a quick stop by the Canoe and Paddle Outpost, we continue on to the Gulf Pier and Fort. Here, we marvel at the beauty of the palm lined road before exploring the fort. During our self-guided tour, we hike to the top of the fort to take in the views of the Gulf Beaches before learning the history of the fort and checking out the artillery and ruins.

After a quick stop by the snackbar and gift shop and the Gulf Pier Beach, we are off to the north end of the key to visit North Beach, where we are immediately impressed by the beauty of the beach and softness of the sand. After relaxing and watching some more kitesurfers on the Beach, we decided to do some more exploring by walking the beach to the far north end of the key. We enjoy walking on the beautiful, secluded stretch of beach before reaching the north tip of the key, where we find a number of anchored boaters enjoying the warm Florida day.

Fort De Soto Park | Fort De Soto Campground | Things to do in Florida | Fort De Soto Camping

Fort De Soto Park Campground is just outside of St, Pete and Tampa, Florida, Fort De Soto Park Campground is a county park but is often thought of as a Florida State Park because of its size and beauty. North Beach is a fabulous beach and one of the Top 10 beaches in Florida and sets within the park, its a bike ride or short car ride from the campground and is a must do! The Fort itself is also a treat and they boast two fishing piers! You can also catch a ferry over to Egmont key from there as well! Fort De Soto park is a top five camping destination on Florida in our humble opinion!

Other Fun Facts:
Fort De Soto was named America’s Top Beach for 2009 by Trip Advisor. In 2005, “Dr. Beach,” named Fort De Soto the nation’s #1 Beach, North Beach!

Fort De Soto Park also hosts Triathlons several times a year!

Fort De Soto also hosts more than 2.7 million visitors a year.

Fort DeSoto Beach Florida : A Good St Pete Beach Alternative

I drive to Fort Desoto Beach Florida when it is too crowded at St Pete Beach.
Fort Desoto Beach is about 12 miles from St Pete Beach and is a great alternative when you can not get parking in the tiny parking lot. There are multiple beaches, including a dog beach, fishing pier and historical fort at Fort Desoto Beach. All of this is inside Fort De Soto State Park and it costs only $5 to get in to the park and there are hundreds of parking spots even on the most crowded days. I take a drive here on an 87 degree day on Saturday March 27, 2021 and then walk around the beach so you can get an idea of what it is like if you are thinking of visiting.
If you are in the St Petersburg Florida area and you want to go to a beach with plenty of space and parking and even a park like setting with picnic gazebos and barbeque areas, Fort De Soto State Park is hidden beach that most tourists are not aware of. If you are looking for a relaxing alternative to Clearwater Beach Florida and St Petersburg beaches, you should consider Fort Desoto Beach.

THE BEST WATERFALL in ALABAMA | DeSoto Falls | Best Waterfalls | Alabama | DeSoto State Park

DeSoto Falls is the best waterfall in all of Alabama in our opinion and one of the best hikes down to a waterfall that we have ever done, one of Alabama's best attractions within DeSoto State Park.

The hike down to the bottom of the falls is incredible but a bit hard to find. There is a small cleared area about a quarter mile before you get to the main parking area for DeSoto Falls on your right under some power lines, just as you come around a curve in the road. You will find the trail there!

Check it out! Amazing and Historic Ft Desoto County Park, FL Campground Review

Wow, what a spectacular place on the gulf coast of Florida. This is where we started our summer vacation and it wasn't easy getting a site as the park stays booked year 'round. However, once you arrive the wait would've been well worth it so stretch out your legs, relax and check it out with us.
