Most beautiful places in Kunming China | best tourist attractions
Kunming is a national historical and cultural city in China. Humans lived and multiplied around Dianchi Lake as early as 30,000 years ago; Dian Kingdom was established in 278 BC and its capital was established here; Nanzhao Kingdom built and extended the East City in 765, marking the beginning of Kunming’s construction ; At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the Yongli regime of the Nanming Dynasty established its capital in Kunming. Kunming has a monsoon climate in the northern subtropical low-latitude plateau mountain. It is a mountainous landform, surrounded by mountains on three sides, and bordered by Dianchi Lake in the south. The scenery along the lake is beautiful. Because of its location on the low-latitude plateau, it has a climate of all seasons like spring and enjoys the reputation of Spring City. China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair, China International Tourism Fair, and China Kunming International Tourism Festival make Kunming one of the major exhibition cities in China.

Welcome to our video on the top things to do in Yunnan, China. Yunnan is a diverse province in southwest China, known for its dramatic landscapes, rich ethnic cultures, and historical sites. Here are some of the best places to visit and activities to enjoy in Yunnan.
Start your journey in Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its ancient town. The Old Town of Lijiang is a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets, traditional wooden buildings, and flowing canals. Explore the Mufu Palace, the residence of the Naxi rulers, and enjoy views of the beautiful Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance.
Next, visit Dali, another ancient city with a rich history. Dali Old Town is known for its Bai ethnic culture and well-preserved traditional architecture. Be sure to see the Three Pagodas, a symbol of Dali, and take a boat ride on Erhai Lake, where you can enjoy stunning mountain and water views.
For nature lovers, head to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. The gorge is a popular hiking destination, offering dramatic views of the Yangtze River rushing between towering cliffs. The trail offers several levels of difficulty, making it suitable for both casual walkers and serious trekkers.
Visit Shangri-La, a town in the northwest of Yunnan that embodies the idea of paradise on earth. Located on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Shangri-La is known for its Tibetan culture, stunning monasteries, and high-altitude scenery. The Songzanlin Monastery, often called Little Potala Palace, is a must-visit for its impressive architecture and spiritual atmosphere.
Explore Xishuangbanna, in the far south of Yunnan, a tropical region known for its lush rainforests and Dai ethnic culture. Visit the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, home to an incredible diversity of plants, or explore the Wild Elephant Valley, where you may spot wild elephants in their natural habitat.
Don’t miss Yuanyang Rice Terraces, one of the most famous rice terrace systems in China. Carved into the mountainsides by the Hani people over centuries, the terraces are especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset when the light reflects off the water-filled fields.
For a cultural experience, visit Kunming, the provincial capital. Known as the Spring City for its mild climate, Kunming is home to attractions like the Stone Forest, a dramatic limestone formation, and the Green Lake Park, perfect for a relaxing stroll.

Top 10 Villages to Visit in China - Historic Towns and Countryside (Travel Video)
Welcome to China’s villages and historic towns. Often touted for its ever changing city skylines, China’s countryside shows a very different side of the country. From beautiful riverside villages to snow covered mountain towns. From mysterious tulou (earthen buildings) to awe-inspiring rice terraces. Traveling rural China can be an eye-opening experience.
I spent more than 18 months in China, spread over the course of a decade and a half. In the last years, I started filming the places that I traveled to, using regular cameras and drones. All footage in this travel video is shot by myself between 2010 and 2019.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
We start off this journey in Yuanyang, a spectacular mountain region where you can find some of the world’s most jaw-dropping rice terraces. Staying with local families is a great way to explore the area, filled with breathtaking landscapes and friendly villages.
Xuexiang is located in the North of China, and is mostly known for its extreme Winter weather, with freezing temperatures and layers of snow. It’s a popular tourist attraction and beautiful sight. The ‘tulou’ buildings in Fujian province are the next destination. These structures were used by the local Hakka people as defense against rivaling communities and bandits. While many still function as homes, some are now used as restaurants and hotels for tourists.
Lijiang is one of China’s most beautiful historic towns, with classic architecture and narrow lanes that can be explored for days. Nearby Dali is worth a visit for its incredible Three Pagodas and Buddhist temple. We travel onwards to Xiahe, a tranquil town just outside Tibet proper. Join monks and pilgrims on traditional koras, and soke up Tibetan culture.
Yangshuo, on the banks of the Li River, might be one of China’s most famous villages, surrounded by mesmerizing limestone hills and mountains. It also provides a good insight into farming life in the country (you can rent bicycles and motorcycles for nice day trips). Shaoshan is a somewhat odd place. It’s the birthplace of Mao Zedong, regarded as the founder of the People’s Republic. The village is a popular stop on the ‘Red Tourism’ trail, a government propaganda campaign.
Fenghuang is a stunning ancient village in the same Hunan province, with incredible architecture, including stone bridges and towers, stilt houses, and a city wall. The next spot on my list is Zhujiajao a popular ‘water town’, not far from Shanghai.
We finish this tour in Pingyao, perhaps the best preserved walled town (or small city) in the country. It used to be an important center of trade and finance, and it’s fascinating to walk the quiet neighborhoods and intriguing alleyways.

MUST SEE SIGHTs of CHINA for your FIRST VISIT! (Top 10)
These are my TOP 10 MUST SEE SIGHTS and HIDDEN GEMS that we saw during our 5 weeks in China. From busy cities to cute hipster towns. Natural wonders to man made gems. China really has everything need to make it your next favourite travel destination: this is your China travel inspiration!
In this video, we look at the best places to visit and some of the most useful China travel advice for your first visit: including train travel, how to access the internet through a VPN and how to deal with culture shock.
EVERY PLACE FEATURED IN THE VIDEO (in alphabetical order).
BEST VPN FOR CHINA: To access any western social media platforms in China, you're going to need a VPN. Ivacy offers a great VPN for a very affordable price (ad):
APPS TO DOWNLOAD
I should really have mentioned this in the video. Before your trip, make sure you download WeChat (it's free) for scanning things in shops and restaurants for translation. Didi is also a good one, it's the Chinese Uber!
BEIJING
The capital of China is a big, busy city but it's little hutongs are a lot of fun to explore. The Summer Palace and the Forbidden City are both really worth seeing as well.
CHAKA SALT LAKE -
A lesser visited gem, located about 4 hours away from the city of Xining in Qinghai province. Famous for it's mirror-like reflections of the sky.
CULTURE SHOCK
I received a lot of comments saying that people had some reservations and fears about visiting China. To be honest, I felt the same way before I went.
DALI -
An ancient city in Yunnan province that has a little bit of everything that I love! There's nature on the shores of Erhai Lake and up in the heights of Canshan Mountain. The stunning Three Pagodas temple and the bustling culture of the ancient city.
GREAT WALL OF CHINA -
Requires no introduction. But I really recommend exploring the wilder and more remote areas of the wall, rather than the touristy sections. In this film I looked at 3 different areas and compared the strengths and weaknesses of each.
HONG KONG -
A giant, sprawling city. Which also has some amazing natural spots like Lantau Island and Kowloon Park, That's what I focussed on in my travel film.
KUNMING -
Kunming has a reputation for being a transport hub, but it's actually a really fun city to spend a few days. The Dragon Gate and Green Lake Park are particularly great and are the main focus of my travel guide linked above.
LIJIANG OLD TOWN -
A beautiful ancient town with stunning maze like streets. It rained most of the time we were there, so I went searching for the little hidden gems of the streets.
RAINBOW MOUNTAINS -
This was the best day that I had in China. Away from the Danxia Landform Geopark is a peaceful national park that is so worth exploring. It feels more like Australia or the US than China.
SHANGHAI -
The last stop that we had in China. You can get some amazing views from the World Financial Centre Viewpoint.
TRAIN TRAVEL IN CHINA
The main way we got around China. We booked everything through China Highlights, which made thinks very easy (not sponsored, just good):
VPN (virtual private network)
You need a VPN to access almost every western social media accounts in China. For an affordable, but good VPN use Ivacy (ad):
XIAN -
I spent 24 hours exploring Xian and it definitely wasn't enough time. The Terracotta Warriors are amazing, but my film focusses on the other gems of the city.
XINGPING -
Home to the best view in China: Laozhai Mountain.
YANGSHUO -
Beautiful karst mountains, rivers and hiking. My video guide features everything we did there and it's a pretty extensive list! Including instructions on how to get to the best viewpoint in the area.

The Most Beautiful City in China | Dali, Yunnan
At the heart of Yunnan Province, Dali is the most stunning city I've been to in China! Whereas many natural sceneries in China are out in the middle of nowhere, the beauties of Dali are steps within civilization. The unique cuisine, hospitable locals, and jaw-dropping landscape makes Dali one of my favorite places to visit.

Dali: China's Most Popular and Beautiful Tourist Destination | A Walking Tour by Walk East
Hey, guys, last time, I lived in Dali for a whole week.
I visited all the main attractions in Dali, deeply feeling the beauty of this city.
Similarly, I will also share with you what I saw, I hope you like it.

1:21 Shuanglang Ancient Town
30:38 Grand Theater of Yang, the famous dancer
37:22 Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple

Once Capital of Ancient Yunnan
-------------------⭐⭐
Located northwest of the Yunnan Province, 350 kilometers (217 miles) northwest of Kunming, Dali City is the capital of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. It once served as the capital of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom (738 - 1253) and as the political, economic and cultural center of ancient Yunnan for more than 500 years.
For many Chinese travelers, Dali is a must-go city on a trip to Yunnan. The luxuriant forests, beautiful Erhai Lake, not to mention its many historic attractions, make it the perfect antidote from the rush and busy life.
Ancient buildings, city walls and the old city moat are the sites most frequented by visitors. Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake are praised as the city's leading scenic areas. Most attractions lie between these two landmarks, such as the Butterfly Spring, and the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple.
Beautiful Yunnan province in southwestern China is considered by many as the most diverse region in the country in terms of culture and scenery. If you’re heading to this part of China, you should really include the old town of Dali on your itinerary.
