Agutaya: Hidden Paradise of the Last Frontier | Discover Palawan | Travel Documentary
Discover Palawan | Agutaya: Hidden Paradise of the Last Frontier
Agutaya is a small municipality located in the middle of the Sulu Sea and part of the Cuyo Group of Islands in Palawan, Philippines. It has a population of about 12,000 people who primarily rely on fishing and seaweed farming for their livelihood. While the locals used to cultivate two varieties of seaweed, Eucheuma Spinosum and Eucheuma Cottonii, they now only grow the former due to unknown reasons that the government has yet to address. On my visit, I went island hopping with the locals to Alob Island, a small, uninhabited island with pristine white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and camping. The island is a hidden gem and rarely visited due to its remote location, but it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful islets in the Philippines.
The locals rely on farming and fishing for their livelihoods, and the islands are rarely visited by the government. Algiceras has a long stretch of white sand beach called Kasay Beach that is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Tayay Island, which can be reached by pump boat from Concepcion, has a beautiful white sand beach similar to Boracay's. The Philippines is truly blessed with so many beautiful places, and I can't wait to explore more of them.
Philippines' Paradise Top 10 Must Visit Island
The Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, boasts a rich and diverse history. Early settlers, known as Austronesians, arrived around 3000 BC. By the 10th century, various kingdoms and sultanates had emerged, engaged in trade with neighboring Asian nations. In 1521, Ferdinand Magellan's arrival marked the beginning of Spanish colonization, which lasted for over 300 years, profoundly influencing Filipino culture, religion, and architecture.
In 1898, the Philippines declared independence from Spain, only to be ceded to the United States following the Spanish-American War. After a brutal Japanese occupation during World War II, the Philippines finally gained full independence on July 4, 1946. Today, it is a vibrant democracy known for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty.

How to Get to Coron & Cuyo Palawan by Ship, from Manila | The Everett's Academe
Palawan- an island province of nearly 1,800 islands and islets; is perpetually named as the ''World's Most Beautiful Islands; some of which may be reached by plane, while most require smaller boats; and, in this video presentation, we'll share with you how to travel directly to Coron and the Cuyo Islands of Palawan- from Manila-- via a ship known as the Blessed Sea Journey (one of two vessels commissioned to the route); yet, first, allow us to introduce you to Coron & Cuyo island.
Coron is the third-largest island of the Calamian Islands; in northern Palawan, Philippines: it's one of the top tourist destinations in the country, best known for it's world-class experiences; including it's renowned World War II - era wreck diving; blue, prestine, crystal-clear freshwater lakes; white-sand beaches; colorful and diverse indiginous fishes; and shallow-water coral reefs.
The Cuyo Archipelago (or Cuyo Islands) are a group of approximately 45 islands, toward the northeast of the Philippine island of Palawan. Cuyo is also known as the oldest town in Palawan- even being considered the capital of Palawan Province, prior to the official changeover to Puerto Princesa; as well as for the Cuyunon people of Cuyo, and their dialect known as ''Cuyunin,'' which was long considered the exclusive local dialect of Palawan: it's most certainly blessed with a rich history and unique culture, with it's wild islands and islets of such distinctive allure.
---
As a foreign tourist or even as a local traveler- who'd like to visit Coron on the way to Cuyo Palawan; It wouldn't be hard for you to commute from any city in Manila, to the Port of Manila- where this ferry going to Coron docks.
If you take a taxi, simply notify the driver that you're heading to the address that we'll share with you here- the address you see in the picture. The fare for transport can range from 200-350 Filipino pesos, depending upon traffic and luggage. If you're on a budget, you could also take a jeepney and ask the driver to drop you at Rotonda Anda, which boundaries Intramuros and the greater Port Area- from there, you could take a tricycle for 10 pesos or you could also just walk to the dock.
Once you've arrived, proceed a few more meters to the ticketing office of JVS Journey Sea Transport and proceed to purchase a ticket: tickets for Economy tier accommodations cost around 18 or 19-hundred pesos and Deluxe (or including an air-conditioned room) would be about 2K pesos. Journey ferries depart 2 times per week (with no fixed schedule as of yet), though you could contact them- here we have the phone number pictured for your convenience. Baggages of the passengers are free of charge- except those which need a Bill of Lading. If you have family or friends in Cuyo or Coron, and you just want to send a package, ''Journey Sea Transport'' exact a ''Padala Services'' charge- which varies depending upon how large the package and applies to each package individually.

El Cuyo, Mexico: Stunning beachfront hotel tour
🌴 El Cuyo is a quiet, off-the-beaten path, beach town located on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula.
It’s the perfect place to go for a relaxing weekend getaway. There isn’t a whole lot to do here, but that’s the beauty of it - discovering what feels like uncharted territory (for now)
Where to Stay:
La Casa Cielo. Stunning, beachfront, adults-only property. Beautiful, clean modern rooms in the center of town. If you're looking for a great place to escape reality and fully relax with friends or a partner, this is it. The cost is usually about $150 per night, and I recommend a 2-night stay!
To Do:
🔹Chill at the beach
🔹Kitesurf (this is a super popular spot for kitesurfers, like Holbox)
🔹Venture out to Rio Lagartos / Las Coloradas to see pink lakes, flamingos. Do this with @experiencias_elcuyo. I recommend the ATV tour + sunset kayak ride (see previous post)
To Eat:
🔹La Casa Palma
🔹El Chile Gordo
🔹Naia Cafe
🔹Churros and papas from the street cart in centro
Keep in mind:
🔹Be prepared not to have cell service while you’re there. Even the wifi there isn’t super reliable. So don’t plan to work from El Cuyo!
🔹Bring cash with you! I’m sure there are some, but I didn’t see any ATMS while there.
🔹Getting there: easiest to have a car, and I definitely always recommend renting a car when visiting this part of Mexico.
