10 Best Places to Live in Northern Ireland

What are the best cities to live in Northern Ireland? We don’t often hear about Northern Ireland as much as we do the three other provinces because it’s the least discussed. If the 4 nations making the kingdom are ranked in order of popularity, we could go like England, Scotland, and, Wales. That’s why many people don’t have an idea of what living in Northern Ireland, the fourth province of the UK is. This time, we want to discuss the 10 best places to live in Northern Ireland.
This will prove that the part of Ireland that remained in the UK since 1921 is not faring badly at all. Please enjoy the discussion about the best places to live in Northern Ireland.
10. Newtownards
Newtownards is a town, townland, and civil parish in County Down. It’s not far from Strangford Lough, another one of the best places to live in Northern Ireland that would be discussed later. Newtownards is at the northernmost tip of Strangford Lough. It is also 10 miles east of Belfast on the Ards Peninsula.
When Newtownards hit the headline on July 17, 2021, it was about the townland of Ballywatticock toward Mount Stewart, where temperature peaked 31.2 °C at 15:40. Besides that, it has a very low crime rate. The town has a lot of beautiful spots that can add colors to the quality of life. Places such as Movilla Abbey, Somme Heritage Center, and Mount Stewart attract people to this town. The town’s residents are also entertained by sporting activities such as rugby, cricket, football, and motor racing. It is one of the best places to live in Northern Ireland.
9. Fermanagh
Ireland's Lakeland County of Fermanagh is the next of the 10 best places to live in Northern Ireland. It’s one of the six counties of the region, bordering the Republic. The county is renowned for its boating and fishing. Once a legendary dry plain, Fermanagh was believed to have magic well at its center with widely held tales of two lovers. Of course, the story around it makes the county. The lakes of Lough Erne stretching through 50 miles over the county were believed to result from bubbles from the water.
If you live in Fermanagh, you’ll be living in the roots of some famous people, including writer Rudyard Kipling and former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Ulysses Grant. Enniskillen, which we shall talk about later, is the county town of Fermanagh. You don’t generally hear about crime here and the cozy place has enough amenities.
8. Ballycastle
Let’s next consider Ballycastle, a small seaside town in County Antrim. Deriving its name from the Irish expression “Baile an Chaistil,” the “town of the castle” is on the north-easternmost coastal tip of the region of the United Kingdom. Its harbor plays host to the ferry to Rathlin Island quite visible from the coast.
Anyone living in Northern Ireland and desires a harbor town to live near the coast should consider living in Ballycastle. If you’ve ever heard anything about the best places to live in Northern Ireland, you’ll realize that Ballycastle is frequently mentioned in such lists. According to The Sunday Times, this seaside town is one of five places in Northern Ireland considered the best places to live in Britain. The publication crowns it as actually the best place to live in the province. It receives accolades for offering a better quality of life to the majority of the residents in areas of education, health, crime control, and house prices.

Crumlin Road Gaol Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

A visit to Crumlin Road Gaol is a unique opportunity to explore a piece of history.

This forbidding building opened in 1845 and closed in 1996, and it is the lone remaining Victorian gaol in Northern Ireland. It stands across the road from the old Crumlin Road Courthouse, which is no longer in use. An underground tunnel connects the two complexes, and prisoners often went back and forth to stand trial.

Over the course of its 150-year history, Crumlin Road Gaol saw over 25,000 prisoners pass through its walls, a handful of which staged escape attempts. You can learn about these escape attempts and the gaol’s history of executions during your Crumlin Road Gaol sightseeing; we recommend checking with the gaol to find out when guided tours are available. In addition, the facility also hosts conferences and concerts throughout the year.

Places to visit in Belfast, Northern Ireland

What are the places that one should visit in Belfast or what are the tours that should be done when it comes to visiting this beautiful city in Northern Ireland?

There is always a to-do list which travelers carry along with them in which they write down the things they want to do in the city they are travelling to as well as the places which they want to visit - making sure they are ordering them in the right form so that they would head for the most important ones first - this is also important when it comes to Belfast tours because there are different things that one should actually visit before leaving the country.

Living in Belfast ❤ I decided to offer some help to those coming to the city for the first time and are still not sure of the places which they should head for first. Waking up in the early morning to manage getting good photos and videos before the Irish people are up and out - and at the same time managing to catch a good and not gloomy weather - was one of the things that helped in bringing this video to you :-)

My trip started with a little walk in those streets which always make Belfast different in one important thing - it is always colorful, on every wall possible out there, they would draw something in colors, making the city just more cheerful with its colors. There are different drawings on the walls that refer to something according to the place or wall it is drawn on and there are also those historical pictures which say a lot about the history of Belfast or some of the places that might be found near.

Moving forward - and enjoying those almost free streets :-) - I have then reached Donegall Quay / Clarendon ( from where one could spot different places that are famously known in Belfast, Northern Ireland. From the place I was standing at, I could spot out the Titanic film studio, Game of Thrones ( and different other movies which were filmed there, there was also the Harland & Wolff Oil Rig, I was also able to spot the Titanic Belfast visitor centre which is amazing and all those coming to Belfast should definitely go and visit it ( there is also Belfast Met College, Belfast Marina Harbour, as well as the Odyssey Complex and SSE Arena and finally the Lagan Weir Bridge over the river - these are not all places for tourists to visit but they are known building which people might feel interested to know about while standing there by the water.

Completing the walk - and enjoying the sun :-) - I moved on to come across some old buildings and from which I spotted that old church which has been there for hundreds and hundreds of years and which lots of people might even know nothing about and might not come across it as often - it is not well known as St. Anne's Cathedral in Belfast for example ( but it is still interesting to pass by such building during a walk through the city.

There are lots and lots of things to see in Belfast old streets and you will even get impressed with all the drawings and colors which you will spot on the buildings. In these old areas, I was also lucky enough to pass by The Old Bushmills Whiskey place which is a famous whiskey brand in Belfast and which is very old that it dates back to 1784 when it was first found ( - you could come inside and see that old place and at the same time get served with one of the finest whiskey drinks found in town; there is also the Bushmills Town which is in the north coast of Ireland and is a small town to Bushmills Distillery ( Dunluce Castle ( Portballintrae and Giants Causeway (

I believe that those tours which tourists should make in Belfast are not just about the famous attractions which everybody knows about - they are of course important but getting deeper into the rest of the city and walking through its old streets and buildings is always the kind of experience that people should always think about.

There are different places and parks that people could visit in Belfast, Northern Ireland, such as Ulster Museum ( Crumlin Road Gaol ( Belfast City Hall ( the Commercial Court in Belfast ( the Botanic Gardens ( Victoria park ( and many more things to visit and enjoy.
