Hackney Wick and Victoria Park - Cool Places to See in London

Hackney Wick is a very cool area in East London with loads of bars and new artistic developments and stuff. Strewn all over the place is evidence of Hackney Wick's industrial past. In this video we walk from Victoria Park and through Lauriston Road taking in some interesting and cultural sights along the way.
There is the usual irreverent banter from Simon and Joolz and plenty of historical facts and fun street furniture to spot.

Jolly Marvellous Mile End & Bow - London Walking Tour

This is a jolly marvellous walking tour of Mile End and Bow in London's east end. Back in Victorian times this was one of the poorest areas of London but these days it's rather spiffing.
Joolz takes you for a wander to the oldest Jewish cemeteries, the shop where policemen buy their boots and the place where Gandhi stayed and met cockneys.

Crouch End Pubs: Hidden Gems in a Lesser Known bit of London

Another historic pub tour, this time perhaps less well known corner of London: Crouch End, also taking in a bit of Hornsey. There are a surprising number of pubs on CAMRA's list of historic pub interiors in this neck of the woods, no fewer than four on today's itinerary.

Along the way I muse over all the different Victorian revival architecture styles, from neo-Jacobean, to Tudorbethan, to pubs where the experts seemingly can't decide. There's some beautiful stained glass and art nouveau interiors. A pub builder who was so frustrating with running out of bricks he started his own brick company. A bit of inter-war mock tudor charm, and even a conversion dating to the 1980s.

Oh and it rained pretty much constantly throughout.

There's a lot to see on a trip to London, and especially on your first trip to the city. Taking a bus is one of the easiest ways to get a good view of London without much hassle or expense; all you have to do is find out which route you want to take and then leave the driving to them while you gawk at the scene. London is covered by more than 700 bus routes, and many travel past some of the city's iconic sights. As a bonus, many of the buses are double-deckers, and what a great view you'll get on the upper deck.

London buses no longer accept cash fares, so you will need an Oyster card loaded with sufficient credit or a travelcard. You could also consider using a contactless payment card to pay for London transport.

If you are short on time and want to guarantee that you see all of the big sights in London, your best bet is the classic Big Bus Tours circular route.Today I am please to introduce you with routes W7,what a great opportunity, please don't miss it out and watch till the end. There is the bus stops in case you need it,please have a look and find out where you exactly are located. You can tap on exact time and with doing that you will transfer to that particular moment.

Crouch Hill and Crouch End railway stations

Visiting London's Crouch Hill and Crouch End railway stations

Crouch Hill station is on the London Overground Barking - Gospel Oak line and in addition to London Overground passenger trains is also used by goods (freight / container) trains travelling to / from Tilbury ports and other destinations. The Barking - Gospel Oak route is a radial line that passes through inner-city urban areas but does not serve central London. It is often nicknamed 'Goblin'.

Crouch End station was served by passenger trains on busy urban / suburban services between London's Kings Cross station / Broad Street station / the Metropolitan Widened Line to Moorgate station (all via Finsbury Park) and Edgware / High Barnet / Alexandra Palace (all via Highgate).

The 1935 Northern Heights electrification plan was meant to see the LNER steam trains replaced by London Passenger Transport Board electric tube trains but the project was halted during WW2 with only the route to High Barnet fully completed. However these trains followed a different route (via Camden Town) and only joined the existing railway at East Finchley - which is to the north of Crouch End, so it was not served by the tube trains.

The plans were that the trains which serve Crouch End would still reach their existing northern destinations (albeit High Barnet at rush hours only and at Edgware they would be diverted to the Underground station instead of the LNER station and then be projected further north to Elstree), but to a different London terminus station - this being Moorgate's subterranean Northern City line platforms.

During WW2 Crouch End was only served by trains going to Alexandra Palace, and this service became very run down - and infrequent - with passengers forced to travel by bus instead. Despite this service passing through densely populated inner city areas and it being known that railway electrification attracts many new passengers, after the war the government refused to complete any further portions of the Northern Heights railway electrification project and instead allowed the service to be closed. Much work for this project had already been completed - including rebuilding the platforms at Crouch End station with the London Passenger Transport Board style of non-slip platform edge coping. All this was now wasted.

As an aside, the other railway route to the Alexandra Palace area (Stratford - Palace Gates) was also run down during the war and then also closed.

Note 1: the 1941 reopening of the Edgware route as far as Mill Hill East was only because the trains served a military barracks, and anyway it used electric tube trains that did not travel via Crouch End.

Note 2: the extension north from Edgware is only partly relevant to the fate of Crouch End. Although it was planned that trains on the Moorgate - Highbury & Islington - Finsbury Park -Highgate - Finchley Central - Mill Hill - Edgware - Bushey Heath route would have passed through Crouch End, had the extension been built it could still have been served by Northern line trains that travelled via Golders Green.
