Exploring California's Highway 39 - Closed For Over 40 Years

California State Route 39 as it heads into the mountains north of Azusa has been called California's Forbidden Highway or California's Forgotten Highway, as the last four and a half miles of it have been closed since 1978, preventing it from connecting with State Route 2. Because of the closure and dead end, the road sees very little traffic, despite being only miles from the second largest city in the United States.

In this video, we drive up the road through the Angeles National Forest (the same road part of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was filmed on) and check out what there is to see along the way. We then explore the section of road that has been closed for over 40 years, a road that was once considered one of the most scenic in California.

Welcome back to part 2 of the worst towns for 2020. This is a list of cities and towns that are going downhill and you should probably avoid moving to them if you have other options. In the last handful of years, most of America has seen some good times. People have jobs, the economy is growing, crime is down across the board, and the towns on the list are sort of swimming against the current. These are towns that all that progress has sort of skipped over. The good time train doesn’t make a stop in the towns.
Like I said in the last video there are 4464 cities in the United States and only about 10% are appealing enough for most people to want to move there. This list is in no particular order. Please keep that in mind when leaving a comment. That being said, if you are looking for a new city or town to call home you should probably stay away from it.

🌟I drove an hour past fields, orchards, and creepy old abandoned industrial buildings by the train tracks to find the gates of Corcoran State Prison where my husband is in Central California. Governor Newsom, have you ever bothered to come here? Why have you ignored me for 2 years as I asked again and again for you to set my husband free? An ambulance with lights flashing entered the prison gates as I worried I would get in trouble for parking at them. They are like the Gates of Hell, with Covid-19 raging through the distant prison like wildfire. Jose said he is not safe in his small cell with so many men about him. He has no choice about his safety. I haven't seen him in almost a year, as these gates are closed to visitors. Yet I am not afraid to be here. Jesus said that even the Gates of Hell could not stand against his name. Governor Newsom, come meet me here. Free my husband!🌟

Largest one-piece totem in the world Kalama Washington

Skinny, white, and 140 feet tall. Stands on a riverbank, out in the open, so everyone can admire its height. Totem pole purists dismiss this pole, as it was not carved by indigenous people.

Totemism, system of belief in which humans are said to have kinship or a mystical relationship with a spirit-being, such as an animal or plant. The entity, or totem, is thought to interact with a given kin group or an individual and to serve as their emblem or symbol.

Four totem poles featuring mythical forms, symbols, and creatures of the Pacific Northwest Native American culture are located in Marine Park, Kalama, Washington. Marine Park borders the Columbia River just west of Interstate 5 and downtown Kalama.

The tallest pole is carved from a 700-year-old Western Red Cedar, and, according to the Cowlitz County Department of Tourism website (2008), at 140-feet, this totem is the largest one-piece totem in the world.

Checking Out a BNSF and Some History in Corcoran, Ca.

I'm getting out on the BNSF a bit more often and this piece is from the town of Corcoran, Ca. an hour north of Bakersfield. I started out with the idea of shooting in Shafter but missed the train so I raced it up the valley and caught it here.
As with most towns in the valley, Corcoran is an agriculture hot spot. Once huge in cotton it is now surrounded by orchards and grains and has a lot of ag industry in town.
I also checked out the Depot which, while closed due to the Rona, is still in use by Amtrak.
