Santo Cerro, que es iglesia dedicada a la Virgen de las Mercedes, se encuentra unos 10 minutos del viaje de La Vega.
La leyenda dice sobre la aparición de la Virgen.
Cuando los Taínos y los españoles se peleaban en el año 1495 apareció La Virgen. Según la leyenda, esta aparición aseguró la victoria de los españoles y los indígenos huyeron.
El santuario que se encuentra en el cerro fue construido en el 1880.
Cada año, el día de 24 de septiembre, muchos peregrinos visitan Santo Cerro.

Eine unsere Touristen Attraktionen ist ein Ausflug in den National Park Los Haitises.
Backpacker, Individual Touristen Residenten, Auswandere ihr könnt einfach selber hinfahren. Schon in Sabana de la Mar, wird man euch fragen ob ihr eine tour machen wollt. Oder aber ihr fahr direkt in den National Park ( von Sabana de la Mar aus Richtung Altos / Paraiso Caño Hondo und kurz vorher rechts abbiegen ) Die kleinen Boote kosten ca. 2500 Peso. falls ihr nur eine kleine Gruppe oder sogar einzel Person seid.
Wer hier in Punta Cana in einem Alles Inklusive Hotel ist kann entweder beim Reiseleiter buchen oder bei einem der kleineren Anbietern. Diese findet ihr im internet, oder auch auf Facebook bzw. Instagram.
Die Bote fahren im National Park los, durch die Mangroven und dann in dei Bucht San Lorenzo. Man fährt vorbei an grün bewachsenen Felsen. Eine traumhafte Kulisse. Viele Vögel brüten hier. Die Ausflüge besuchen auch eine der Taino Höhlen die man hier entdeckt hat und die unter schutz stehen.
Hier wurde übrigens auch ein Teil von Piraten der Karibik gedreht. Der mit der Haitianischen Hexe :-)
