Harris Ranch, or the Harris Cattle Ranch, feedlot is California's largest beef producer, producing 150 million pounds (68 kt) of beef per year in 2010. It is located alongside Interstate 5 at its intersection with State Route 198 east of Coalinga, in the San Joaquin Valley of central California. The ranch is owned by Harris Farms.
The popularity of Harris Ranch has grown via tourists and drivers who would stop at Coalinga as their mid-way pitstop traveling between Los Angeles metro area and the San Francisco Bay Area. Its location is exactly the half-way point between those two areas, and Harris Ranch has become a tourist destination throughout the years.

Return to Parkfield Grade, California [Off The Beaten Track Episode 14]
We return to Parkfield Grade and try our new Insta360 X4 camera (link below)!
This video features a short drive from the Parkfield end of Parkfield Grade (Parkfield Coalinga Road) to Parkfield Junction at CA 198. The total distance is about 20 miles, with 5-6 miles of dirt on the Monterey County side of the route, with pavement starting at the border with Fresno County.
This is our second visit to the track, a beautiful drive on a Sunday afternoon in early May. The dirt section was a little the worse for wear, presumably after winter rain, but other than one or two spots no high clearance or 4WD was really needed. Awesome vistas on both sides in the higher elevations.
We used a new camera for this trip; in fact, one of our primary reasons for going was to try out the Insta360 X4 camera and mount. We mounted the camera on the roof of the cabin on the truck, and I played it safe using only a small extension on the sucker mount (linked below), though that does extend out to 45, and we'll try longer extensions in the future. As far as the X4 camera goes, we just reframed the 360-degree footage to front, left, and right-facing shots and then the edit cut between the angles as needed. I think the result is pretty good, not as crisp as the GoPro but having multiple camera angles makes up for most of that.
Link to our first visit to Parkfield Grade along with an interactive 3D map and GPX files:
For those interested in seeing the entire track, here's an unedited video of the dirt section of the road:

Campground Review | Sommerville Almond Tree RV Park | Coalinga CA
Road Ready Campground Reviews, Sommerville Almond Tree RV Park, Coalinga CA.
On our way south for the Fulltime Families West Coast Game on Rally, we needed a stop along the way to rest during our trek. We were getting tired and decided to stop at this park out in the middle of central CA. It's located just off I-5 near Coalinga. We used Enjoy America, which is a club we get through our RPI membership. The stay cost us just over $32 a night for full hookups. It was a nice convenient stop on our trip. The park was fairly clean, and everything worked just as it should. The spots and roads were fairly tight, but we navigated through the park without any issues. There are 2 travel centers right outside the park, and fuel is priced below most other spots along this route.

State Route 198 (SR 198) is an east–west state highway in the U.S. state of California that runs from U.S. Route 101 (US 101) south of King City to Sequoia National Park. It connects the California Central Coast to the mid–Central Valley through Hanford and Visalia, although the most developed portion is in the Central Valley itself. SR 198 intersects the major north–south routes in the Central Valley, including Interstate 5 (I-5), SR 33, and SR 99.
The highway that would become SR 198 was approved for construction in the 1910s through three bond issues, and was added to the state highway system in 1934. Parts of the highway were upgraded to freeway during the 1960s. Another portion was converted to an expressway in between Hanford and Visalia, and was completed in late 2012.

Fly in, dine on steak and explore the grounds before flying out. There is a small gift shop in the same building as the restaurants. You'll find a small bakery and butcher shop so you can grab a few steaks to take home.
The resort is well rated and looks like it would be a nice quiet place to stay if you need to make an overnight stop. Don’t expect much in the way of entertainment or things to see/do in the surrounding area.
