10 Coolest Cities to Visit in Illinois | Cityopolis #shorts
These are the 10 Coolest cities to visit in The Prairie State!
Comment which cities should have made the list!
An introduction to Clarendon Hills, Part 4
Clarendon Hills is a small community in Chicago's western suburbs, adjacent to its better-known neighbor, Hinsdale.
In the first part of our introduction to Clarendon Hills we met Mike McCurry, heard a bit of the village's history, and learned why people choose to live in Clarendon Hills in lieu of Hinsdale or the North Shore suburbs. Mike is an agent with Coldwell Banker and a 20-year resident of Clarendon Hills.
In the second and third segments we drove around Clarendon Hills, starting with the compact downtown and its locally-owned shops. We talked about real estate market conditions, including short sales and foreclosures, and got a fix on the range of housing prices in the village, and chatted about homes, schools, parks and more.
In this segment we see some of the more sought-after areas of Clarendon Hills and learn why they're popular.
We continue our drive in the next segment and, in another, pause for a look at a home in Hinsdale that Mike considers a screaming deal at a price of $1,830,000. And, since Mike played pro ball with the Minnesota Vikings in the 80s, we'll touch on the subject of Hinsdale Central's football team.

25 Most Unbelievable NEWPORT MANSIONS
Clarendon - Arlington, VA
First platted in 1900 at the top of a hill on the Georgetown-Falls Church Road (now Wilson Boulevard), Clarendon evolved into Arlington County's original downtown after the arrival of streetcars into its area in 1896. During the early 20th century, two interurban trolley lines converged in Clarendon a short distance west of today's Clarendon Metro station.
One of these trolley lines traveled between Rosslyn and Clarendon along the present routes of Lynn Street, Fairfax Drive and Clarendon Boulevard to a station at the present intersection of Clarendon Boulevard and Washington Boulevard. Metrorail's Orange Line now closely follows this line's former route.
The other line traveled from downtown Washington, crossed the Potomac River over the Highway Bridge and traveled along Washington Boulevard to reach the Clarendon station. Trolleys from both lines traveled between Clarendon, Ballston and Falls Church along the present routes of Fairfax Drive, I-66 and the Orange Line. Some of these trolleys traveled as far as the towns of Vienna and Fairfax. Like many other interurbans around the country, these lines were to remain in service until the mid-1930s, when they succumbed to the automobile and Depression-era economics.
In 1920, the same year in which Arlington County adopted its name, a movement to incorporate Clarendon as a town was defeated in the courts.
Over time, Clarendon became Northern Virginia's retail center. Department stores including J.C. Penney and Sears opened stores in Clarendon, and other retailers extended west along Wilson Blvd and Fairfax Drive to Virginia Square (anchored by Kann's Department Store) and, farther west, the Parkington Shopping Center anchored by the Hecht Company, which was later enlarged and renamed as the Ballston Common Mall.
Built in 1937, the Arlington Post Office was the first federal building constructed in the county. Previously Arlington's mail was handled in Washington, D.C.. Lobby murals depicting scenes about Arlington history were painted by Auriel Bessemer in 1939. In 2000, it was named in honor ofJoseph L. Fisher, former U.S. representative from Virginia's 10th district. The building is a designated Arlington County landmark and is listed on the national register of historic places.
By early 1975, two Vietnamese grocery stores had been opened in Clarendon. Clarendon came to be known as Little Saigon - restaurants, shops and a large Vietnamese community. Vietnamese restaurants adjacent to Clarendon Metro like Queen Bee, and Cafe Dalat, closed in the end of 2005 and Little Viet Garden closed at the end of 2008. Nam Viet seems to be all that remains.
Since the opening of the Clarendon Metro station in the early 1980s, Clarendon has become well known for its eclectic mix of unique shops, trendy bars, and small restaurants. More recently, luxury apartments, office buildings and upscale chain stores have been constructed and gentrified the area, although some of the original businesses do remain. The former Sears store's parking lot and automotive department, briefly considered as a site for a Home Depot, was developed as a mixed residential/commercial project that now includes townhouses, luxury apartments, and national chain retail stores.

Places to see in ( Arlington - USA )
Places to see in ( Arlington - USA )
Arlington is an urban county in Virginia, directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. With a population of 210,000, yet a land area of only about 26 square miles, Arlington is one of America's mostly densely populated jurisdictions. Despite its density, Arlington mixes the best of both big city and suburban environments. No incorporated towns or cities lie within Arlington County borders; all local government is at the county level. Arlington has grown with the DC area, even during nation-wide economic downturns. This is mostly due to the large number of employees of the federal government and its contractors.
Arlington is part of the original ten miles square which the US Constitution dedicated as Washington DC, the nation's capital. In 1846, as a result of issues relating to congressional representation, worries by Arlington residents that D.C would ban slavery, and an economic downturn as a result of the fact that Federal government offices were located on the northern side of the Potomac River, the U.S. Congress returned Arlington and Alexandra to Virginia. Most travelers to Arlington will visit both Washington, D.C. and Arlington, and the two cities are seamlessly linked together by the Metrorail system.
If you plan to stick to the urban areas, park your car and only travel by foot and public transport. Arlington has an excellent public transportation system, which includes 4 Metrorail lines, a public bikeshare program, as well 2 bus systems. Driving an automobile can bring more troubles than it is worth, as many of Arlington's attractions suffer from a dearth of parking spaces, and the area is notorious for expensive parking tickets.
Arlington County is located in northeast Virginia and is surrounded by Fairfax County and the Falls Church to the southwest, the City of Alexandria to the southeast, and Washington, D.C. to the northeast directly across the Potomac River, which forms the county's northern border. Other landforms also form county borders, particularly Minor's Hill and Upton's Hill on the west. Some of these urban village communities include:
