10 Best Seaside Towns in the UK
What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

Towns in England - Clacton on Sea
Clacton on Sea. We are here again with our array of towns. We enjoy doing this and we know you enjoy getting it from us. That is why we remain resolute in our determination to keep it up. In this video, we present the next on our list of towns in England—Clacton-on-Sea. We are so much certain that as little as this town is, it is important enough to deserve your time. We stand by the assurance we are giving you if you choose to watch this to the end. We know you would love to share this video as you would love to discuss whatever you saw here. Now, please enjoy this discussion about Clacton-on-Sea, one of the towns in England.
About Clacton-on-Sea
Clacton-on-Sea is in the Tendring District in the county of Essex in England. It is a seaside town located on the Tendring Peninsula. In its district, it’s the largest settlement in population and size. It is within the UK Parliament constituency of Clacton. Clacton-on-Sea is situated around 123.8 kilometers northeast of Central London, 64.4 kilometers from Chelmsford, 93.2 kilometers from Southend-on-Sea, 25.2 kilometers southeast of Colchester Town, and 26.2 kilometers south of Harwich. We will discuss each of these towns gradually.
Clacton-on-Sea has a significantly thriving economy that has continued to rely on entertainment and day-trip facilities, presumably as a seaside resort. However, its strength in the service sector and its large retired population are not in contention. There are two business or industrial parks in the northwestern part of the town. In its wider district, further employment is provided by agriculture and occupations which are connected to the Port of Harwich.
Brief History of Clacton-on-Sea
The pivotal year in the history of modern-day Clacton-on-Sea is 1871. And the name Peter Bruff, the Essex railway engineer and land developer can never be forgotten. Together with William Jackson, the steamboat owner and a group of businessmen founded this town in 1871 with the aim of developing a seaside resort. It was suited seaside resort because of its average of 1,682 hours of sunshine and 20 inches of rainfall.
Thus, they decided to construct a pier and facilities, including the Royal Hotel, which have since been converted to flats, on a stretch of farmland. These utilized trade from The Woolwich Steam Packet Company which was at the time operating between London and Ipswich.
In 1872, the town was officially incorporated though laid out rather haphazardly over the following few years. By 1882, the Great Eastern Railway built a spur to Clacton-on-Sea from the resort of Walton-on-the-Sea with a junction at Thorpe-le-Soken. The population of the town had grown to 10,000 by 1914 which made it the largest seaside resort between Southend-on-Sea and Great Yarmouth, and by 1939, it has about 20,000 residents. All the while Clacton-on-Sea as a suburb of Essex remained geared to catering to holidaymakers due to its accessibility.
Just a year before the Second World War Billy Butlin, opened his second Holiday Camp at West Clacton. The camp which was opened at the time of the British Parliament’s passing of the Holidays With Pay Act boosted the town’s economy. This provided a guarantee that all industrial workers had an annual one-week paid leave. At the time, a week's holiday at Clacton could cost £3.10, about the average industrial wage. The camp project became immediately successful as it was an instant success being fully booked almost all season. Though the army took over the place until 1945 for their use, the camp closed in 1983 because of package holidays and changing tastes. Of course, it reopened briefly as a theme park called Atlas Park.

12 Reasons Why Clacton on Sea Is One of The Worst Places in England
Why Clacton on sea is one of the worst places in England? In our video that features Clacton-on-Sea as one of the towns in England, we tried to stay on the positive side. We knew for sure that the town has many more going against it than for it. We are sorry, we just have to focus on the negatives now. We have once proved that it is a poor town to live in. It goes without saying that a poor town can hardly be one of the best towns. In this video, we will give 12 reasons why Clacton-on-Sea is one of the worst places to live in England. Of course, we would also try to state the defense of those who do not want to agree with that ranking.
1. It’s a shadow of its past
Clacton-on-Sea used to be one of the best traditional seaside towns in its country. For some 100 years, the seafront has presumably been a destination for holidaymakers. Unfortunately, the town’s reputation has plummeted in recent times. It’s now being overshadowed by the other seaside destinations. It’s no longer the seaside resort people flock to when they need a break from everyday life. The last part of the 20th century saw holidaymakers turning to cheaper and richer package holidays elsewhere and making trips abroad for their break away. This turned the town into a place without purpose. Thus, visitors no longer have reasons to visit Clacton-on-Sea as was the early case in the 1900s.
2. The town is drab
Just try and look up this town and see what your search result will be. It’s just like an empty space on the web. This is because nothing is really happening there. It’s like a place stuck in a time wrap. You will discover that very little progress is being made in this town in many aspects. They have no leisure complexes like the ones in Basildon, Colchester, and Southend. The same housings have been there for over a century without modern touches. They don’t have retail options and this leaves the town stagnant. Not much will be seen in the town reflecting his history and culture.
3. The Dry Seafront
Seafronts towns are naturally not a place for serious investment unless there are some serious initiatives. These are what is missing in Clacton-on-Sea. It lacks investment, unlike some seaside towns like Margate and Leigh-on-Sea that have adapted and become trendy. All you’d find in Clacton-on-Sea is the same pier and amusements of the time past. That makes it an old-fashioned town. In defense of the town, it’s being promised that the pier will soon have a new rollercoaster installed on it. They also claim that in the summer months, there’s plenty to buy in terms of food and drink.
4. Its high street is uninviting
The high street in the town is nothing to write home about. Businesses are closing down while empty shops line both sides of the street. No new ones are opening up. Most of the few shops still operating in this town are still charity shops and pound shops. That means you’ve got no compelling reason to do shopping here as you won’t have enough to buy. No wonder Clacton-on-Sea is one of the worst places to live in England. Lovers of this town believe that the plan to build 250 new homes in the Little Clacton part of the town, off Thorpe Road, if successful will increase the population and bring in new leisure and hospitality businesses.
5. It's Depressing
Tendring has been described as one of the most depressing places to live more than once in reliable rankings including the ones in the official sources. This is mainly due to the level of deprivation in their towns without any prospects. That’s why residents are unhappy. Those among them seeking happiness do move elsewhere. Though a recent government survey reveals that many residents of Tendring are happy with their local authority area, with many of them rating themselves 7.5 out of 10 in the happiness index, Clacton residents are especially not happy. Clacton-on-Sea is the reason the whole local authority is regarded as depressing.

Places to see in ( Frinton On Sea - UK )
Frinton-on-Sea is a small seaside town in the Tendring District of Essex, England. It is part of the parish of Frinton and Walton. Until late Victorian times Frinton-on-Sea was a church, several farms and a handful of cottages. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
In the first half of the 20th century the town attracted visitors from high society. Connaught Avenue, named after the Duke of Connaught and opened by his wife, was nicknamed East Anglia's Bond Street. Other attractions included a lido complete with palm trees, high class hotels along the Esplanade, and a tennis tournament second only to Wimbledon. The Prince of Wales frequented the golf club and Winston Churchill rented a house.
Frinton has three points of entry by road: an unadopted road from Walton-on-the-Naze in the north, a residential road, and a CCTV monitored level crossing adjacent to the railway station which replaced the older gated crossing in 2009. Frinton was once geographically distinct, but housing estates now line the roads between Frinton and Walton-on-the-Naze, Kirby Cross and Kirby-Le-Soken.
The town has sandy and stone beach washed daily, more than a mile (1,600 m) long, with wardens in season, and an area of sea zoned for swimming, sailing and windsurfing. The shore is lined by a promenade with several hundred beach huts. Landward from the promenade is a long greensward, popular with young and old alike, stretching from the boundary with Walton-on-Naze to the golf club in the south.
Frinton is home to the Frinton Summer Theatre Season at the McGrigor Hall every summer. Started in 1937 by the Cambridge Academic T P Hoar as an amusement whilst he studied corrosion, it quickly developed a life of its own, employing many famous actors at the start of their career. Michael Denison, Vanessa Redgrave, Timothy West, Jane Asher, David Suchet, Gary Oldman, Owen Teale, Linda Bellingham, Jack Klaff and Neil Dudgeon all started their careers at Frinton.
( Frinton On Sea - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Frinton On Sea . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Frinton On Sea - UK
